Chapter 63: Bully boy
Jasper knew danger when he saw one, and that undead he was looking at was the definition of one. He smiled even as cold sweat tickled his spine. “I don’t want that thing to near me.”
He brought his two hands together as if he wanted to clap. He turned the hands into a hooking shape and then he ripped his hands apart. “Render!”
A sharp crack sounded in the air like the splitting of a tree branch.
Suddenly, the space above and below Spartacus warped, turning twisted and distorted. The space above and below had collapsed at the same time, pulling him in different directions.
Jasper sneered. His forehead was dripping with sweat, but he was smiling. His hands trembled slightly. “That’s one of my most powerful moves. Do you think you can withstand it?”
Riven stood unmoving, his face seemingly carved from stone, but inside he was raging, and his rage, together with his aura, poured down the connection into Spartacus. “Withstand? I’m going to do more than that. I’m going to spoil your face.”
He said it calmly, as if he was talking about the weather.
Spartacus’s muscles, his abdomen, shook and trembled as he was getting pulled in two directions with a force strong enough to tear him into two.
Thick veins appeared all around his body as he began to fold himself. Spartacus began to bend, moving his body into a crouching position and then folding it into a ball.
He did it so fast too, as if it was of little difficulty.
The end result was that he hung in midair, a ball made of flesh.
“…just how experienced and strong is this guy? I don’t even have to tell him what to do…” Riven commented in his mind as he watched Jasper’s face turn white.
Tong took a step forward, his hand abnormally clenched on his sword. He looked as if he was going to jump on the platform himself and face Spartacus. The reason the two were behaving this way was because they knew the amount of force Jasper’s attack could cause.
It’s an attack that had torn rank two monsters into two in a blink.
But here was a man that bent his body into a ball just to avoid the force tearing him in two. That type of strength left them stunned.
Jasper took a step back. “It can’t be. Where do you find this kind of monstrosity?”
His hands trembled as he raised them again, his lips pressed into a strained line. “I will just do it again. You think you can survive if this continues?”
He licked his lips, narrowed his eyes, and brought his clawed hands together again, only to rip them apart. The space around Spartacus turned more volatile, twisting and rippling with the shrill cries of metal tearing.
The ground cracked as if a giant was walking on it, but Spartacus was just like a ball in the middle, warped tightly together. Veins covered every inch of his body.
Looking at him, one could see the raw strength that he was using to keep his body in that form. Even Riven was surprised, but he was too angry to analyze anything at the moment.
Jasper hissed. In his life since he’d awakened and activated his Sigil, he’d never seen anyone who was able to resist him like that. Only those in the higher ranks could get close enough to give him a beating.
He’d lived his entire life as the top dog of his ranks, in rank one and now two. But seeing a summon of a rank two overcome one of his strongest techniques, and he didn’t know how to act.
A desperate madness crawled into his eyes. He poured more power in from his Sigil so he could keep doing his render attack with little space in between. “I’ll keep doing it until I tear you apart.”
But Spartacus wasn’t going to wait that long. He took more aura from Riven’s connection, his veins turned green, and coldness surrounded him.
From his coiled-up body, he raised his head with great difficulty and stared at Jasper. Instead of the dead, cold eyes of undead that he should have, Spartacus’s eyes were a burning pool of anger that hit Jasper like a physical thing, and he flinched, but he didn’t let go of his technique.
“You, fucking undead. Just where did he see you?” Jasper snarled as he brought his trembling hands together for another clawing technique.
And in that split instant that wasn’t up to a second, Spartacus uncoiled. He lurched forward so fast the only thing he left behind were green shadows that were still keeping the different forms he took as he was running.
Jasper blinked. “When did he release two undead?”
Suddenly, his brain caught up and his eyes widened. He destroyed the space behind Spartacus, but Spartacus blew through the force as if it was a breeze holding him back.
A shadow briefly loomed above Jasper just as a punch smashed into his face.
Jasper’s head snapped back, and his body followed. He slammed into the ground, cracking it as he skidded, creating a trail of a long hole in the ground.
Riven watched with satisfaction while the whole students were watching with eyes that spoke volumes, as if they just saw the impossible.
“That was for calling me a villager,” Riven said. Then he joined the fight. He flung himself forward into a run.
Spartacus got there before him, and his foot smashed down in his classic head-stomping move. But Jasper rolled out of it. He jumped back to his feet. His nose was bleeding and didn’t seem as straight as it was before.
His face burned with anger and humiliation. In all his years, no one had ever treated him like that before. His whole body filled with feverish energy. “I’ll kill you!”
Riven was already there, leaning against Spartacus. “Can you really? Time to finish this, bully boy.”
Jasper smiled. “Yes. You’re right.”
Then his whole body went taut. He raised his hands, his eyes popping as he seemed to be squeezing every last bit of his powers out of his body.
