Chapter 67: Zandrel?
By the time Zandrel was done talking, it was close to night and Riven was sent to the place he would be temporarily staying. It was a small building that was beside the main building of Zandrel’s residence.
There are actually up to seven small buildings like that in the compound. It was for any students that the Master personally took in.
Kivara escorted him to the place and pointed to one of the other buildings. “That’s mine.”
Riven looked at the building and then he focused on her. “You’ve been somehow since we returned to the sect.”
She looked at him without expression, but Riven could have sworn he saw something flash in her eyes. Something that looked suspiciously like pity. It made him feel weary.
She finally spoke. “The sect holds a lot of memories. I’ve been here since I was a kid.”
Then she turned and walked away. Riven watched her go, and he just stood there before he finally sighed and entered the room. The first thing he noticed was that there was a lot of aura in the room, thick natural aura that would make his Sigil fill much faster.
It was a single-room building, but it was large enough to contain a bed, table and chairs, and even a rack for clothes in one corner. Riven looked at the bed, and he sat on it, letting out a sigh. “My sister would have loved this after a hard day of hard work.”
He muttered, his gaze dark. But he soon left his brooding state. He knew that whatever happened to his sister in the future would be in direct relation to what he did. He clenched his fist. “Let’s become a proper practitioner first.”

Kivara returned to her Master’s building, her gaze even darker than before.
Zandrel was still in the first room, but this time he was holding a small mirror, and his hand clenched around it anxiously. He was pacing the room, his eyes flashing with white light. His calm expression had been replaced by one filled with feverish intent.
His head snapped toward Kivara when the door closed. He smiled. “Quick, tell me everything, now!”
Kivara met his eyes. “I already did. That’s what happened.”
His eyes narrowed. “Are you lying to me, girl?” Gone was the gentle way of speaking. His tone had gained a rough, growling edge.
Kivara shook her head. “I’m not. That was really what happened. I just met him, after he saved my life. The reason we took so long was because we were lost and we had to avoid and fight monsters.”
Zandrel calmed down a bit, but then his hand snapped out like a striking cobra. His arm unnaturally lengthened and was so fast that Kivara couldn’t even dodge in time as he caught her by the throat.
Strangely enough, Kivara didn’t fight back or struggle as she was lifted up. Veins appeared on her face, and her eyes seemed as if they would pop out the next instant.
Zandrel stared at her like that for a while before he snorted and then threw her to the side. “You did well this time. You brought back something truly valuable.”
Kivara rubbed her neck as she stood up. “Is he the thing you are looking for?”
The grip on the mirror tightened. “I don’t know, but why else would the mirror direct me there? It must be what I was waiting for all these years. You were finally useful, Kivara. Worth the price.”
The reason why Kivara was actually in the forest was because Zandrel sent her inside. The mirror in his hand is actually a relic that’s called ’Thousands Look Way’. It’s a relic that can show what a person wants and how to get to them.
She didn’t react. Instead, she sat on the floor. Her face was smooth and devoid of any emotions. “So are you going to free me now? You said you would leave me be if you saw someone with higher potential than me.”
Zandrel suddenly smiled, a full-mouth smile. “I said something like that? Don’t be foolish, Kivara. You think I will let you go? Your Radiant Sigil means you will climb higher. It is certain that you will come after my head when you are strong enough.
Unless you would like to leave this place as a cripple!”
Finally, Kivara’s face crumbled, and anger shone through. She slid to her feet in a smooth motion, and the darkness in the room trembled.
A dark blade appeared in her hand and she swung it. But instead of the usual slash, the blade lengthened and turned flexible. Like a snake, the sword coiled and uncoiled, cutting the air in three places at once.
Zandrel didn’t move from his place. He kept staring at the mirror, seemingly not bothered by the attack at him, but suddenly the sword that turned into a serpent stopped a few inches from his face.
It wasn’t Zandrel that stopped it. Not directly, at least.
It was Kivara herself. Her body was jerked up, with her straining on tiptoes. Golden threads of aura connected from her limbs to the empty space that hung above.
Zandrel finally turned from looking at the mirror. He faced the sword-snake in front of him and smiled. “Impressive as always. Your technique gave you the formless sword. Or was it your Sigil that gave it to you? I can’t wait to see what you will be able to do with this.”
With a gesture, one of the threads vibrated and jerked. The sword disappeared as she canceled the technique. Zandrel began to walk toward her. His face was shaped in sadness. “Why do you fight so much, Kivara? Just why? Why don’t you love me like I do love you?
After all, I am the only one that loves you. Even your parents rejected you.” His face twisted. “I see. Then I will have to make you submit to my love. First, shut your mouth. Others must not hear the scream of your love!”
One of the threads twitched and her mouth clamped tight.
More threads appeared and fell from above, curling around her. But unlike before, they jabbed into her skin. The torture began.
