Chapter 46: A moment of repose
In the end Azazel had gotten an artifact, two artifacts actually from Elzar after bullshitting for nearly an hour, the keeper had no choice but to give in to his demands.
’Psshhh, it’s not like I blackmailed him or anything.’
He did “…”
Elzar had only taken him to the treasury to get a single low tier artifact but after another fifteen minutes of random reasons from Azazel, he gave him another.
The first item he got looked like a choker, or mini belt.
He wasn’t certain.
Using his blessing’s active skills, Ouroborus Eye, he’d appraised the item.
It was a restriction type item, one that demanded something in return for power.
An instance would be a scenario where if he were to use it on himself, he could set a condition for a thirty-five percent increase in all abilities, in return for not using his left hand for ten hours.
Simply put, the item was a buff type item.
He didn’t really know if it could benefit Lily in any way but he was yet to try, after all he wanted to equip his pawn with better equipment.
While she was a maid exclusive to him alone, she was also the one who carried out all his bidding, be it illegal or legal.
Naturally when the chance presented itself his first thought was to find an item that would suit her perfectly.
The second item was the one he had gotten for himself, it was an item which contained accumulated mana over centuries.
The description had mentioned that it was once wielded by the elf king and boy he couldn’t be more glad, those narcissistic bastards rarely ever mingled with other races, thinking others were beneath them.
For Azazel it was quite a boon since his physique didn’t allow him to regenerate his mana naturally, he could use the ring to cast his spells without eating at his own mana.
All he needed to do was mix in a bit of his mana to the spell and it would be indistinguishable from one he’d have cast on his own.
It was a game changer which could increase his chances of survival, from what the appraisal mentioned, the ring was at least a thousand years old and it had the accumulated mana of all the elves that had wielded it.
Speaking of survivability.
“Arghh— son of a… screw this.” Nathaniel yelped with an audible groan.
Azazel was delivering his own end of the bargain.
He smiled, clearly enjoying himself.
“You asked me to teach you.”
Nathaniel held back the urge to roll his eyes, he rolled on his side then slowly stood up.
“I asked you to teach me, not kill me.”
“Well it’s not my fault you used so much force behind a single punch, all I did was flow along and flip you using the force of your own attack.” Azazel replied with a smug grin.
Nathaniel felt his eyes twitch.
“Your nose is growing out again, what are you feeling all smug at you bastard, grab a weapon let me humble your arse.”
“No can do! This is no-weapon training.”
“Screw you, narrow eyed bastard.”
“Cry me a river Nathaniel.”
“Um…”
Just then the blonde haired prince interrupted.
“Can I ask you both to spar with me?”
Nathaniel raised a brow.
“No offense to your highness but are you high on pixie dust?”
The Prince shrunk back visibly, scratching his cheek sheepishly but Azazel on the other hand couldn’t hold back his laugh.
It came out in short broken chuckles then his eyes narrowed into slits, pupils barely visible.
“Hehehe… sure, why not! It’ll be a good experience for you, your highness.”
Elias immediately regretted his choice.
“No… I don’t think it’s a good idea anymore! I’m fine, carry on with your—”
“Nonsense your highness, you need to train your new body.” Azazel interrupted.
Since the trial ended, nobody really brought up the torment they’d experienced in their respective trials, it was clearly visible.
They were all different from a few days ago.
Nathaniel looked tired and broken but there was an undeniable hint of determination in his gaze, the kind that promised an insane growth in the future.
Azazel held a certain madness in his gaze, like he was barely containing it while Elias had been the one with the most change.
His pale and sickened body had been reformed from his bond with the divine blade Sol.
His once sickly frame was now solid, his skin looked healthier and his energy was rejuvenated.
He looked like he could lift a boulder and still come out fine.
Perhaps it was getting to his head a bit but that was where Azazel came in.
To remind the excited prince of his place.
An owl watched the entire exchange with indifference, it was Elzar.
The enigmatic figure had chosen to conceal themself from Elias and Nathaniel, choosing to remain in the form of an owl while overseeing the large teleportation circle below.
It had a time limit so the trio still had five more hours before they would be teleported to the nearest town.
Azazel stretched his body lightly, then raised his hand in a taunting gesture.
“Come.”
Nathaniel grinned then moved first.
His movements were awkward, his arms were positioned randomly.
Azazel pivoted on his heel, he slipped past the punch then smacked the back of Nathaniel’s head with a sharp crack.
“Too slow!”
Nathaniel felt a sting on his scalp.
His ears rang from the impact.
He turned slowly, his eyes bloodshot.
“Oi, did… did you just slap me?”
Azazel smiled.
“Do you need another to confirm?”
Nathaniel lost it, he swung his fists wildly in outrage while Azazel taunted him further by dancing around him.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Elias tried to land a surprise hit, though his hesitation was palpable.
His foot scraped against the stone as he lunged forward, his hesitation costing him a heartbeat.
And that brief second was all it took for Azazel’s palm to meet his ribs, folding him instantly.
It went on for about half an hour and by the time it was finished the three of them were sprawled across the floor, disheveled while laughing at each other.
For the first time since Azazel transmigrated, he laughed genuinely.
Not the forced smiles he often made or the eerie grins he had whenever he used his class exclusive abilities.
For the first time in what felt like a while, he didn’t think or worry about anything, he simply enjoyed the moment.
