Chapter 64: Pact
“And what would you possibly know about freedom, what do you think you’re offering? You? A mere mortal dares to offer what even the demon King himself desires. You’re challenging his authority, do you think he would let you be?” Liliana asked coldly.
Her voice was as frigid as ice, but it didn’t carry the same murderous intent as earlier. It was just plain, perhaps torn between believing his promise or accepting the fact that he was just a mortal who couldn’t grant her desire.
But what if he could?
Somehow a part of her wanted to believe that he could give her freedom and that part of her was whispering louder than her doubt.
Azazel observed the look in her eyes, he remained calm, his posture was immaculate as ever.
Even with the crisis at hand, the old Azazel’s habits were still finding ways to seep into his subconscious.
Although he was a bit nervous, on the outside he seemed fine.
Truth be told he was a little uncertain when he had spoken about granting Liliana freedom, what he did was gather enough repeated occurrences from the game then compiled them into one reasonable and acceptable thesis.
In most playthroughs of the game, Liliana or Lily had always vanished after two years and what followed next was always the possession of the last child of house Astavore after selling his soul to a demon for revenge.
Nathan had always lost it during the playthroughs because of one very important reason. Alvina.
Due to his obvious weakness, a demon coaxed him into agreeing to a contract with promises of power he could use to enact revenge
Liliana had always left after that.
Sometimes it would take three years, sometimes, six but there was this consistent pattern.
She’d only leave after witnessing the barrier separating the demon realm and the human realm come apart.
Based on this, Azazel had arrived at a conclusion.
That the pink haired succubus had come to their mansion on a mission.
And from her reaction, he’d just confirmed it.
He was right… or at least close, close enough to make her react the way she did.
“Do I really need to answer that? You know it too don’t you, you’re aware that I bear the mark of the trickster, and you know what my kind is capable of.”
Liliana frowned.
“That’s not enough.”
Azazel shrugged.
“It’s not? You’re wavering Liliana, The fact that you’re listening means you’re interested and that confirms it, you want freedom and I’m willing to offer it to you.”
Liliana allowed her eyes which had already turned crimson to linger on the redhead trickster, then she chuckled.
“Oh poor little lamb you are, you’re offering freedom when you yourself aren’t free, do you think the gods give their blessings for no reason apparently? Hahaha, no they don’t, every single one of you with a blessing are bound to their desire, to carry out their biddings, to do what they can’t. You lots are merely tools to farm divinity for them.”
Azazel frowned at the information but then again, he couldn’t really care less.
Farming divinity for Loki wasn’t bringing him any harm, Loki gave him a second life to do what he wanted, even if the condition meant dying while trying to build a peaceful world, he couldn’t really care about being used because… it was his choice.
“There’s a difference between being bound and becoming a votary. I know I’m being used by the trickster and for what it’s worth, I’m not bound to his wishes. He gave me something, a chance to live and how I live my life depends on my choices.”
He paused.
“I’m not asking you to do anything against your wishes, I’m proposing a deal Liliana, become my shadow and you get to live in the human realm, do what you want, I don’t care. I only ask that you aid me when I require your assistance, and I swear on the Astavore’s name that I won’t make you do anything you don’t agree on.”
Liliana arched her brows before letting out a huff.
“You’re offering me freedom from the demon king so I can be under your control.”
Liliana tilted her head, crimson eyes narrowing.
“How is that freedom?”
“It’s not.” Azazel said honestly. “But it’s far better than being under the demon king, and besides we’re going to make a pact, you are free to add to your conditions anything you desire from me, as long as I can grant it then I would.”
Liliana let the silence linger.
Then her lips twitched before curling into a full grin.
“Be careful what you promise, pretty boy, you must be really desperate.”
She purred.
“Fine, let’s make a pact then, a blood oath. Give me your palm.”
Azazel exhaled, a sigh of relief then did as Liliana told.
She took his palm, made a small cut with her claws.
Yes, claws.
It wasn’t just her claws.
A pair of bat-like wings had protruded from her back while a thin tail ending with a heart shaped tip danced lazily behind her.
The change was immediate.
Her hourglass figure was on full display while her hair grew longer, its edges turning crimson, and at its base two horns as dark as midnight crowned her head.
Azazel’s breath hitched.
She was beautiful, unlike anything he had ever seen.
Her claws drew a demonic sigil on Azazel’s palm—her demonic sigil.
And while she did so, her eyes never left his.
Once the sigil was complete, she smiled.
“I, Liliana Vi Azrythiel, the third spawn of the demoness Lilith, agrees to pledge my loyalty to Azazel Von Astavore with the conditions that he grants me freedom from the demon realm, allow me to feed on his nightmares and essence, and use his body as I desire, in return I shall grant him dominion over my being. Should he ever fail to uphold any of the terms agreed on, his soul would be damned in the depths of Tartarus.”
She paused, letting the words settle, then spoke again.
“Do you agree to these conditions, Azazel Von Astavore, do you agree to become my master?”
Azazel gulped then calmed himself.
“I, Azazel Von Astavore, accept ownership of the demon Liliana Vi Azrythiel.”
Then, the sigil burned crimson.
