Chapter 83: A jolly dance under the rain I
Tak!
Tak!
Tak!
Tyrisa drummed her fingers against the armrest of her chair in a restless rhythm with narrowed eyes.
Although her lips were pressed into a thin indifferent line, Tyrisa’s fingers betrayed her agitation.
Not many people could see through the aloof princess but her servant and exclusive shadow—Tai—could read her like an open book.
His mistress was infuriated, he could see that.
At first he thought it was because he had been taken out so pathetically by an ambush when he was supposed to have senses akin to an assassin, but the more he observed the more he found out that she didn’t care about that.
Tyrisa’s opponent, Yoshino was strong, almost as strong as his mistress, even if he had detected the ambush he still would have lost the fight, at best if he was being honest he would have died exactly thirty seconds later than the time he had initially died.
What irked her or rather the person who was responsible for agitating his mistress was none other than the son of Duke Astavore, Azazel.
Tai had heard rumors about him, malicious ones if he was being honest but when he met Azazel in person, he couldn’t help but note how wrong they were.
Unlike the rumors, Azazel didn’t look anything like an untalented, lecherous noble.
Rather he felt deadly.
Tai had been raised as an assassin for most of his life and he could tell from his years of experience… that Azazel was a murderer, he had the gaze of a killer, it had been apparent when he openly threatened a member of the royal family.
He stifled a laugh.
’I guess those Astavores are built differently.’
Tyrisa glared at him.
“You seem rather happy Tai, what’s the occasion?”
Tai cleared his throat then averted his gaze.
“That…”
“That?”
Tai didn’t respond, instead he nudged his chin towards her feet which was dangling against her chair.
Tyrisa’s face turned beet red.
As expected… her feet didn’t reach the ground.
“Y-You…”
“Heut… kmmm!”
“Don’t laugh.”
“Pfft—”
“Tai” she growled.
“Yes, lady Tyrisa.”
Although he yielded, his shoulders were still trembling.
“Stop it!” Tyrisa hissed, then turned her head with a pout. “First that red haired troublemaker, now you…”
It didn’t take Tai a second to connect the dots.
’So he made fun of the mistress’ height.’
The realization made him laugh even harder, causing Tyrisa to lunge at him.
By the end of it they were both sprawled against the floor, laughing like kids.
“Ah I missed this.” Tai muttered with a satisfied smile.
The relationship between the both of them was more than just a shadow and master, Tai and Tyrisa had been together since childhood, one could say they were more like siblings.
Tyrisa stared at the ceiling then a small smile tugged at her lips.
“You haven’t changed a bit Tai, you’re still as childish as ever.”
He snorted.
“I could say the same about you mistress, you’re still sensitive about your height.”
“Shut up.”
“Hahaha.”
Tai stared out the window.
“It’s still raining.” He mused.
Then his eyes widened slightly.
“Oh?”
Tyrisa followed his gaze, the scenery outside was chaotic.
The rain had been pouring since the night before and by that logic, no one should have been outside but that wasn’t the case.
Now that she thought about it, her senses had been picking up a strange sound from a distance but back then she didn’t pay heed to it.
Both Tai and Tyrisa hurried to the window and the sight they saw stunned them.
Outside the aspirants were all gathered within the rain, dancing while several water mages made musical constructs like a sound note.
What surprised Tyrisa was the fact that both nobles and commoners were present and… strangely enough they all looked like they were having fun.
From the crowd below she saw a certain redhead dancing with his pink haired maid.
The both of them were smiling while enjoying the festive activity.
Tai whistled beside her.
“Look at those two, they look so good together.” He said. “The more I see that maid of his, the more I suspect her origins.”
“What do you mean?” Tyrisa asked with her brows arched faintly.
“Look at her, she doesn’t look like a servant… She looks like a noble, a fallen one but still a noble nevertheless.”
“It’s not exactly strange for fallen nobles to serve under a prestigious house.”
“True.” Tai nodded.
Then he lingered for a few seconds, feeling the strange sensation of being watched.
He returned his gaze towards the scenery at the center of Roswellburg, a small attraction center just outside Merelyn Falls.
Sure enough someone was indeed watching them, or rather the gaze was directed at his mistress.
Tyrisa stared with open hostility at Azazel while the redhead caught her glare.
Then he winked at her before mouthing the words.
“Shortie, wanna join us?”
The white haired princess felt something snap within her.
Never in her life has she been humiliated by anyone yet Azazel had repeatedly done so.
Her knuckles turned pale against the window frame, while her usually stoic face showed signs of anger.
When Tai noticed, he smiled then asked.
“Lady Tyrisa would you like to get a closer look at the ruckus going on down there.”
She didn’t respond, not immediately.
Rather she turned and started walking.
Tai followed behind her.
****
Below the festival continued with a joyous atmosphere.
Beneath the rain, the aspirants danced and did all sorts of innocently free-spirited activities, courtesy of Azazel who may or may not have been the culprit of the chaos going on.
Well… he was.
This was his way of saying, ’Hey Viola, remember when I said I’ll tell my dad? Nah scratch that, I’ll just screw you over instead, that seems more fun.’
Yeah, something along those lines.
But he did it mainly because he was bored and because he wanted Lily to be able to let loose a bit.
The succubus had been raised in the demon realm for most of her life.
Azazel didn’t know how long she had been in the duchy but one thing he could garner from her expression was the fact that she rarely enjoyed anything there.
So he had made it a part of his priority for her to experience things she couldn’t experience in the demon realm.
The other reason for the chaos had been to drag a raccoon out.
Tak!
Tak!
Just from the slow almost non-existent footfalls he smiled.
His bait had caught the trap he’d set beforehand.
’It seems very efficient.’
