Chapter 57: I thought this was a Mexican standoff.
Thud!
A towering figure, sprawled against the earth below with eyes widened in fear as his body began to disintegrate into motes of shadows.
His gaze fell on Azazel as he muttered with trembling lips.
“M-Monster.”
Azazel watched Xiu Wuhye’s body dissolve into motes of light.
The berserker had actually survived his chaos rift technique and had taken him quite some time to defeat.
It was all because of Wuhye’s annoying blessing.
Xiu Wuhye came from a high ranking noble family within the Zhuxhuin empire.
His family served a particular god who history described as a blood crazed tyrant, his family served the bleeding god.
The bleeding god was a god whose abilities made it so that the more damage he received, the stronger he would become and that troublesome ability was passed onto Xiu Wuhye’s family.
Azazel’s chaos rift technique had been enough to take out most aspirants, save for a handful who were either strong enough or skilled enough with abilities able to avoid it.
Nathaniel and Elias had been the ones to take the remaining ones out, Azazel only had to focus on Wuhye, and he did.
The injuries sustained from the attack had amped the young aspirant, making him a towering, almost indestructible hulking figure.
Azazel had to repeatedly chain his attacks on a single focus in the berserker’s body to break his defense.
He couldn’t damage him properly so he had to opt for an internal damage.
It had taken a lot out of him, now he was left gasping with barely any energy left.
After absorbing Muninn it wasn’t just his mana capacity that had increased, even his physical stats had been adjusted, still his body was in a poor state.
If before his mana could barely perform any technique, now it was much to the point where his body could no longer handle the strain of using taxing techniques like the chaos rift.
Blood flowed from beneath his mask dripping on to the forest floor with a viscous splat.
Azazel allowed it to return back into his soul mirror, he watched as the last of Wuhye’s body disappeared, then scowled.
“What a waste of mana, it’s not like they’re actually dying.” He lamented.
Then he turned.
Behind him, Nathaniel and Elias were equally as beat up as him.
The former was still bleeding from a wound he had sustained while dealing with an assassin class aspirant, his spear looked like it was going to crumble at any given minute.
The latter was bleeding from a cut he had gotten while fighting a beast summoner.
As soon as they locked eyes, the atmosphere shifted instantly, the change was immediate.
Azazel spoke first.
“I don’t assume you’re going to give up and let me kill you, are you?”
Nathaniel blinked, then spat.
“Not a darn chance deadbeat.”
Elias sighed.
“I don’t mind.”
He paused then added.
“But I want to fight you.”
Azazel stared at the both of them, his fatigue was evident.
He didn’t have the strength to make any haughty remark, instead he exhaled.
“Fine… let’s get this over with, don’t complain, I won’t go easy on you lots.”
Nathaniel felt his eye twitch, his lips curled into a sneer.
“That’s my line, you dumb clown.”
That was it, no words were exchanged further, the three of them just took a stance.
Nathaniel brought out a gauntlet from his soul mirror, letting it manifest over his arm.
Since he was sure to lose in an exchange of hand to hand combat, a gauntlet was his best choice.
As long as it was counted as a weapon, his blessing would activate.
Over his bleeding side, a thick layer of frost was coating the wound.
It was easy to forget because Nathaniel rarely used his innate affinity and fought using his blessing only, Azazel had been caught off guard when an icy blue mana flared over the mercenary’s fist.
Seeing this, Elias allowed his mana to dance around his fists.
The blonde prince was grinning with excitement.
Azazel resisted the urge to facepalm.
’What is this fool happy about, just die for me, I want to go to bed.’
Azazel launched himself towards Nathaniel, kicking up dust from the earth below.
Unlike them, he didn’t wrap his chaos mana around his hands.
Not yet.
Nathaniel’s eyes narrowed, his lips twisted into a sneer then he attacked as well.
Their fist collided with a thunderous explosion, the force behind the attack made the air around them thrash wildly.
Azazel frowned as the frost from Nathaniel’s mana crept up his hands, from the corner of his eyes he noticed Elias’ fist heading towards his face.
He parried by crouching low.
The prince’s attack met only air but the mercenary’s didn’t.
A construct of ice slammed into Azazel’s form from the ground tossing him into the air like a rag doll.
Azazel hit the ground with a loud thud, his lips parted just enough to let out a weak groan.
He coughed a couple of times before struggling to his feet.
“Two against one? I thought this was a Mexican standoff.”
Elias had a silent question written on his face but Nathaniel had outright asked.
“What rubbish are you speaking.”
Azazel laughed.
“Hah… fuck, I wanna beat the shit outta the two of you.”
Both Elias and Nathaniel were already rushing towards him, Azazel took a stance, one which was quite famous back in his former world.
As the both of them came into range, Azazel focused his attention on Elias.
He knew the blonde prince unlike Nathaniel wasn’t quite accustomed to battle yet and that was why he jumped into a fight, any single chance he got, he was chasing the thrill of battle, and Azazel…
Wanted to knock him out first.
Three seconds.
That was how long Azazel had before Nathaniel would reach him.
Azazel’s leg smashed into Elias’ knee with a devastating force.
The blonde prince staggered slightly but that short instant was enough for Azazel to land a jab on Elias face.
“Ugh…” Elias choked on blood.
From his view, the world was blurred and inverted wrongly.
Elias couldn’t tell his left from his right and vice versa, in his disoriented state he felt something crash into him with the force of an oversized boulder and then… he lost consciousness.
The last thing he heard was his divine blade Sol, laughing at him with amusement.
