Chapter 58: Azazel vs Nathaniel
Augusta watched in shock as Azazel finished the prince.
It all happened in an instant, her eyes could barely follow the movement.
Elias had been standing a moment ago but now?
The blonde prince was disintegrating into motes of light.
Augusta had never shied away from a fight, not once since she left home and became a mercenary but at this very moment, she was having second thoughts.
’W-What was that last attack?’
The attack Azazel had used to finish off the Prince was similar to the chaos rift he had used earlier when he wiped out the other aspirants but instead of influencing the space.
He had used it on the body of the Prince instead.
The sight was gruesome, Augusta could only imagine the pain of his body spiraling into itself.
She let out a shaky breath.
’He’s a monster.’
Just then, Apeiron spoke.
’Augusta, allow me to assist you.’
Augusta snarled.
’Shut it Apeiron.’
The weapon hesitated.
’Augusta, I exist to serve the champion of kretus, I understand you don’t trust me well enough and I shall tell you the whole truth about the curse of your family but for now allow me to assist you.’
Augusta wanted to argue, but she couldn’t help but notice that she had been treating her divine weapon wrongly.
She was angry that the trial which had cost her to remember the memory she wanted to forget the most was just a means to claim Apeiron.
The trial wasn’t her first time seeing the divine weapon of the war god, she had seen it as a kid in her family’s treasury.
Yes, the divine weapon of the war god Apeiron was sleeping away in her family’s vault long before she was born.
Throughout the trial it had never revealed its form to her, it was only after arriving back to the real world she had noticed the true form of the divine weapon.
She let out a shaky breath then took a stance.
’I want to beat him using my own strength.’
She lingered for a few seconds before adding.
’You’ll explain everything you know about the curse when this is over.’
The weapon seemed delighted at her tone.
’I will, you have my word.’
It paused, as if contemplating whether to tell her something.
Eventually it spoke.
’That boy, the spawn of Loki, you can’t beat him.’
’Are you trying to provoke me?’
’No, I’m not. The boy has the will of a legendary grade creature, even if he doesn’t use it, his physical prowess alone far surpasses yours now, after a few exchanges at best, you’ll lose.’
Augusta fell silent.
The divine weapon continued.
’The first of the nine raging dragons imoogi, use it… a child of war shouldn’t lose to the spawn of a trickster.’
Before Augusta could protest, a wave of information flooded her mind, countless image of a sea serpent trying to attain ascendance, its savage method of fighting against its opponents, every piece of information about the creature flooded her mind all at once.
At that moment, she heard Azazel’s voice.
His tone was strained and weak but it still carried that haughty edge.
“Do you wish to continue, Nathaniel.”
Hearing his tone, Augusta’s lips pressed into a thin bloodless line.
Her jaws tightened until the muscles strained like cords.
“Hah this bloody fuck… are you looking down on me?”
“No.” Azazel replied honestly.” I’m just really tired.”
“Then give up.”
“I can’t do that.”
“Then fight.”
Azazel barely had the time to raise his head, Augusta was already moving towards him.
The ground cracked beneath her foot, her muscles coiled like springs as she launched herself forward.
She felt different.
The moment her divine blade Apeiron had flooded her mind with the memories of the first dragon imoogi, something inside her had shifted, her body moved with the predatory instinct to destroy her opponent.
It was violent and overwhelming.
Her instincts screamed at her to crush him, to devour him.
Azazel’s eyes widened slightly as Augusta closed the distance in a blink.
Her fist hurled towards him, tearing the air with a sharp crack.
He twisted his body as quick as he could yet the punch grazed his shoulder.
The force sent him stumbling sideways while the shockwave split the sand beneath his feet with a thundering boom.
Azazel could’ve sworn he heard the woods behind him splinter behind him.
He stifled a groan.
“Argh god damnit.”
Augusta didn’t stop.
Her movements were eccentric, like a serpent striking its prey repeatedly, she pressed forward.
Her fist drove towards his ribs.
Azazel barely managed to bring his forearm down to block the attack.
CRACK.
Pain exploded within his arm.
The impact of her attack knocked the breath from his lungs.
He staggered a few steps back with labored breaths.
“Hah… hah…’W-What the—”
Augusta didn’t let him finish, she dove in like a predator.
Her knee shot towards his stomach.
Azazel instinct moved, he grabbed her thigh, shoved it aside but Augusta didn’t slow, her body twisted mid motion in an unnatural way, and then she smashed his face.
A brutal sound reverberated through the forest, Azazel felt his head ring.
His vision flickered for a second, his body swayed lightly but he steadied himself.
His gaze met hers just for a brief moment and what Azazel saw was the savage clarity of a hunting beast.
She continued her onslaught of attacks without hesitation, each one more brutal than the last.
Azazel ducked the right hook that was headed his way but Augusta followed with a kick.
The lout was losing consciousness, his mind raced.
He needed to find a way to get the gauntlet off the the mercenary’s hands.
At that moment Augusta’s fist slammed into his face with a brutal force, Azazel’s head snapped backwards.
His vision blanked.
The familiar metallic taste filled his mouth, then he heard it.
A faint sound echoed within him, it was the same gronk he had heard after absorbing Muninn, only… it wasn’t so muffled anymore.
Somehow, Azazel could feel a connection to the raven, and the gronk it made? That was it telling him to give into his feral instincts.
And he did.
What followed next wasn’t a fight between humans, it was a battle between beasts.
Augusta was about to finish him off when Azazel grabbed her arm.
He pulled her close and then…
Slammed his forehead into her nose.
CRACK!
Augusta’s head snapped backwards, stars burst across her vision.
Before she could recover, Azazel had wrapped his arms around her, hurled her into the air and slammed her head first into the ground with a german suplex.
Augusta felt the earth shatter against her skull, then…
Her body went limp.
