Chapter 124: A good CEO

This was their first time using the teleportation circle. They had no idea where in the base they would land. Of course, Ember expected it to be a neutral location. It wouldn’t make sense to drop them into their rooms.

And just as she thought, the circle brought them to the square.

When they arrived, they saw people running towards the square. Their faces looked horrified. Alex and Marcus were the first to arrive.

“Why do you all look like that?” Ember asked.

Alex took a deep breath before answering, “If you saw a random blue light in the base that you knew nothing about, you would look like this, too.”

“We thought it was something like the blackout from last time,” Marcus added.

By this time, the rest of the people had already arrived. They stood watching the five who had returned through unconventional means.

“Yeah, yeah, we’re sexy. You don’t need to stare,” Ivan teased.

“Sexy my ass,” Alex retorted. Ivan sent a flying kiss in return.

“If you two need a room…” Aiden pointed between the two men. He cleared his throat and addressed everyone. “Since we’re all here, I don’t need to call everyone.”

“We’ve cleaned up a building, and we’re ready to accept new members. We were supposed to do it today. However, we hadn’t been able to clear the building until it was too late. We decided to decorate it, and tomorrow we will start recruiting.”

“As for the blue light, as you said, it’s the light from the teleportation circle. We can use it to go to and from.” Aiden gestured for them to come closer, “If you like, you can have a demonstration.”

Everyone was eager to try. Even Cassandra, Luka, and Alen were looking forward to it. This was technology they had never seen before.

One by one, they stepped into the circle. Ember and Aiden stepped out, leaving Cassia, Ivan, and Sarah.

“You can show them how it works,” Ember said. “Put the sigil over that one node in front of you, and you’ll leave.”

“Aren’t you coming?” Sarah asked.

“Nope. I’m tired. I’m going to have Aiden give me a massage and then go to bed.”

“Just say you want to fuck him,” Ivan scoffed. “No need to hide.”

Ember refused to answer, dragging Aiden back to their room.

As soon as the door shut, Aiden spun Ember around. His lips found hers, he picked her up and headed for the bed. She could feel how hard he was. But this wasn’t what she wanted to do.

She pulled away from Aiden, gasping. His mouth latched onto her neck, and his hand went under her shirt.

“You,” she panted. “Now isn’t the time for this…We need to talk.”

Aiden pulled away. He put her hand on his crotch. “Do you really want to talk?”

Ember’s eyes darted from his crotch to his face. Her hands squeezed, but she pulled away as if she was burned.

Nodding frantically, “Talk…yes…that’s all I want right now.”

Aiden steadied himself. Ember doesn’t normally refuse him, so there must be an issue she wants to talk about. He tidied both their clothes and sat on the bed with her.

Clearing her throat, she began to speak. “I want to give Adrienne and the others higher rankings. Instead of just a fellowship contract, I want them to be small leaders. We’ll still be the highest ranking, but they would have more liberties.”

“Right now, they can do basic things, but they can’t do anything major. Like the forge. If I’m not there, they can’t create anything. And logistics. Adrienne can check and count, but she can’t replace anything or make changes.”

“Everything needs my approval. I want to give them the chance to do things on their own. What do you think?”

Aiden thought for a moment. He considered the pros and cons. They would still be able to oversee everything. And if the other could take care of the tasks they need to approve, it would be much better for them.

“Sure,” he finally said. “We can have a hierarchy. This way, when new people come in, we don’t have to run around wondering what to do next.”

“Good!” her eyes glimmered. “I thought you wouldn’t want to try.”

“They take the work from us, why wouldn’t I agree?” he hugged Ember. “While they do the work, we can play all day.”

“You’re supposed to be a leader. What kind of leader throws their work on other people?”

“A competent one. I give them the tools, and in the end, they can work without me. They become so efficient that I’m no longer needed.” Aiden shrugged. “That’s a good thing as far as I’m concerned.”

Ember thought about it. He wasn’t wrong. Being able to relax while your subordinates do all the work. It’s a pretty good deal. Aiden used to be a CEO, so he should be used to this kind of thing.

She curled up against him, allowing her body to rest. “Then we’ll talk to them after they come back.”

Aiden hummed a response. He picked Ember up and walked towards the bathroom. “Oi, don’t try anything funny,” Ember said, wiggling in Aiden’s arms.

“We’re having a bath. What’s funny about that?”

Sneering, Ember replied, “Do you think I don’t know you? Don’t even think about it.” Her arms wrapped around his neck. “If you want to bathe me, you do it properly. No hanky panky.”

By this time, they had already entered the bathroom, and Aiden was removing Ember’s clothing.

“I’m not sure if I can promise you that.” Aiden cupped her breast; she glared at his hand.

“Bath only,” Ember demanded. “Everyone will be back soon. I promise, after we talk to them, we can do whatever you want.”

Aiden raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure you want to say anything?”

Ember paused for a moment. She narrowed her eyes. What kind of crazy shit does he want me to do?

“Anything,” Ember said resolutely.

“Good girl, don’t go back on your words.”
