Chapter 18: Accusation

Aiden, the patron saint of patience, addressed Valentina.

“Valentina, lovely to see you’re feeling well. Did you find a way to fix your prior issue?”

The issue he was referring to was her coming into their room. Whether pretending to be drugged or actually drugged, it didn’t matter. The fact that she was able to find their room so accurately meant she either saw them come in or someone informed her.

Ember felt someone had told them. Which meant there was a spy in the company.

Valentina’s wide eyes watered, looking every bit the innocent maiden.

Ember scoffed. This bitch really knows how to ruin a good mood.

“Aiden, why did you have them take me away? I reached out to you for help because I felt safe with you.”

Her lip trembled, and she stomped her foot as if agrieved that he didn’t become her knight in shining armour.

“Did I not call the staff to help you? Did they do something inappropriate? If you would like, I can help you file a complaint. Such an incident shouldn’t be happening.”

If the hand that was on Ember’s back hadn’t been pinching her ass, she would have thought Aiden was serious.

“Valentina, you said the staff did their job, so what exactly is the issue?” Aiden’s patience was wearing thin.

Valentina was shocked, her mouth agape as Aiden and Ember walked towards their car.

Before she could stop herself, she ran towards the car.

Aiden had opened the door when he felt something behind him. He grabbed Ember, moving away from the fast-moving object. He watched as Valentina jumped into the car.

Ember’s eyes were like saucers. She was startled when Aiden pulled her away from the door. Seeing Valentina jump into the car was even more shocking and just plain weird.

Why is she so desperate?

Aiden and Ember stood outside watching Valentina sit in the car. She made a phone call. Whispering into the phone and looking at the two of them.

Aiden was now seriously annoyed. He thought of this as childish behaviour. Of course, if Ember did it, it would be cute.

He watched Valentina hand the phone to him. He wanted to toss it away. If it weren’t for Valentina letting him know it was her father, he would have thrown it away.

He tried to wipe any trace of irritation out of his voice when he answered the phone.

“Mr Richards, how may I help you?”

“Mr Montclaire, my daughter has told me that she made a friend of your sister. My wife and I are away. MY daughter asked me if it would be alright for her to stay at your house to get along with your sister. She doesn’t have many friends, so I wanted to find out if you were fine with the arrangement.”

Aiden wanted to throttle Valentina. She actually used his sister’s name. He didn’t want to get angry with Mr Richards; he loves his daughter. The lie made him want to throw Valentina out of the car.

However, instead of rejecting, he accepted.

One, was that Ember became irrationally possessive when Valentina was there. HE knows he shouldn’t, but he couldn’t help but want to see how far she was willing to take things.

Two, he didn’t want to cause trouble with Mr Richards. They were working on a few projects, and as much as he knew business and personal should be separate, some people did not distinguish.

Three, he wanted to know why Valentina was so hell bent on being around him.

“That’s fine, Mr Richards, I’m sure the girls would get along swimmingly.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, Ember slapped him on the back, hard. Valentina showed a victorious smirk.

Aiden closed the car door, turning to Ember.

“I’ll explain when we get home. Just you and me.”

He kissed her on her forehead while she glared daggers at him.

He opened the car door and tried to get in before Ember.

He thought putting them together would cause a fight.

As he was about to step in, he felt Ember dragging him back.

“Who let you sit beside that bitch?” she whispered, before sliding into the car.

Aiden laughed.
