Chapter 3: First Kill
Ian ignored the pain, engaged muscle on his legs and calves, and boom!
The ground shook a little. With his current strength, even the elite Olympic athletes on Earth are far inferior to him. As a lesser vampire, he could perform acrobatic movements that are impossible for his previous life’s human body.
He feels that he could squat 1600 lbs barbell or roughly bench press 900-1000 lbs barbell. Of course, this is just his rough guess.
The eight foot tall werewolf with a body that could even dwarf the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronnie Coleman looked down at 5’9 foot Ian coldly. The size comparison made Ian feel a lot less confident in his chances.
He feels as if he was a normal middleweight boxer fighting a heavyweight world champion boxer.
‘Now or never!’
Ian pulled his arm to gather strength, swerved his waist and threw a punch. At this time, the air produced a crackling sound. Yet the werewolf didn’t even bother to block and let Ian’s punch that was enough to crush a human skull hit its chest.
As a result, Ian felt his fist had hit an iron plate. The werewolf revealed its fangs, two sharp canines, pushed its mouth, intending to bite Ian’s head.
A glint appeared on Ian’s eyes. He threw another punch towards its mouth which prompted the werewolf to give a mocking grin.
However, a burst of blood flew out. The werewolf’s body landed on the ground with a thud, twitching frequently. Blood spurted on its head like a bubble.
Ian heaved a sign of relief and looked at the bloodied bone claws on his fist. Following that, another claws came out on the left hand and Ian swiped his bone claws to the werewolf, severing it’s head after to more swipe. There’s just no way, the muscles on the neck of the werewolf was too tough.
If his claws were made of steel. He wouldn’t have this problem.
‘It seems I need to gather biomass as soon as possible and turn this bones into steel.’
Ian sat on the ground, breathing heavily. He felt as if he ran a Marathon.
On the other hand, Barseagle had already dealt with the blind werewolf, puncturing its throat with his black sharp nails. When he saw Ian kill his opponent, Barseagle was momentarily surprised causing the severely injured werewolf close to him to run away.
The werewolf’s IQ wasn’t worse than humans. It saw the situation wasn’t good. The true vampire managed to kill his companion in a 2 v 1 situation. How to fight??
Not to mention, he didn’t expect another one to fall. Now, it’s four versus three. Not to mention, one of them was a true vampire.
The werewolf could only swallow this humiliation and run for his life!
“Trying to escape?”
The ground on the Barseagle foot cracked like a spiderweb as he exerted his leg strength. His figure was like a pulled arrow from a bowstring.
THUD!
A deafening head flew out.
“So strong!” Ian exclaimed.
Ian had only managed to barely win due to an element of surprise. Beheading his opponent due to advantage that the enemy didn’t know about his retractable claws. On the other hand, Barseagle managed to slay two enemies singlehandedly. Is this the gap between a lesser vampire and a true vampire?
‘Why does this captain pretend to be unconfident earlier?’ Ian sighed.
Barseagle smiled at Ian. Inwardly he was doubtful. He didn’t expect Ian to be this capable. And what were the boneclaws on his fist from before?
“Well, I should help them. They still lack experience.” He shook his head as he saw Liz, Daniel, and Kate about to lose.
He knew it was too much to expect for them to win against eight feet werewolves. Ian was just lucky due to the bones claws trump card that determined his victory.
A few minutes later, with Barseagle joining the fight. The two remaining werewolves met their demise.
“Captain, you’re so strong. Why didn’t you repel them right from the start!?” Daniel laid on the ground, spoke with labored breaths
Liz and Kate also looked at their strange captain. Their team was new in the Expedition Scout. They’ve only known each other for a week before they got deployed without even the chance to familiarize themselves with each other.
“Brat, this is a test to see if you’re qualified to stay in my team. So far, only Ian has performed somewhat decently. Being able to kill a werewolf that is far superior in body size.”
“Speaking of which, how did you do it?” Daniel looked at Ian enviously.
At first, his first impression of Ian was that he was silent and weak. Who would have known this guy was actually fierce!?
Kate pointed at Ian’s fist. “I saw how… He has these strange bone claws that suddenly pop outward, dealing a fatal blow to the werewolf.”
“I saw it too…” Liz nodded. “What are those claws?”
“Claws? What are you guys talking about?” Daniel looked at Liz and Kate, then at Ian curiously.
Suddenly, bones claws came out of Ian’s fist with a whooshing sound. “This? I don’t know either…”
Barseagle on the side opened his mouth with a frown. “I think you’ve awakened a unique blood ability. I’m just not sure. Because Lesser Vampires like you cannot normally awaken blood abilities.”
‘Blood abilities?’
A fragment of memories surfaced on Ian’s mind related to blood abilities.
Blood abilities are unique to the vampire race. Every promotion of the realm has the chance to awaken random blood abilities.
For instance, once a lesser vampire manages to breakthrough a true vampire, he might be able to awaken hypnosis, or ability to transform to a bat, etc… they’re random. For example, Barseagle could strengthen his forearm and sharpen his nails for killing…
But they can’t exceed the strength of the awakener. These abilities grow alongside their users.
So, it’s almost impossible for a lesser vampire normally to awaken a blood ability without ascending to a true vampire first.
“Maybe that’s the case.” Ian shrugged.
Barseagle smiled. “It’s not without precedent in the history. Being able to awaken an offensive blood ability, your fortune is quite good.”
Liz and Kate became silent while Daniel looked envious. Why can’t he awaken his? Obviously, everyone was a lesser vampire except for their captain. How is Ian different from them?
On the other hand, Ian inwardly heave a sigh of relief as they stopped asking questions. He cannot really explain his powerful system, right?
He would rather cut his tongue than disclose the details of his system to anyone! This is his reliance on this Curtained Imperium to gain a foothold and survive!
