Chapter 72: Chapter 72
Ohm
I felt that other alpha’s ghost-scent on him again and my jaw tightened, but I played it cool, sarcastic as hell. “Met him tonight. Guy’s got a stare like he wants to fight. Whatever. Not here to talk about him. Remember that time in high school when those DL creeps tried cornering you by the vending machine? I still laugh thinking about how you threatened them with locker room photos. Bold as hell.”
Ye Jun threw his head back and laughed, loud and real, the kind that made his whole face light up. “Oh my god, yes! And you came in swinging a backpack like it was a sword. ’Touch him again and I’ll tell your moms!’ Classic Ohm. You were my hero that day. Still are, kinda. Even if you’re all scary alpha now.”
“Hero? Please,” I said, waving it off but my chest felt warm and stupid. “I was just the sidekick who didn’t want to lose his only friends. Titi would’ve killed me if I let you get molested. She’d have said, ’Ohm, you useless teddy bear, go save our pretty boy!’”
He pointed at me, grinning. “See? Teddy bear. You can’t escape it. And speaking of Titi, remember when she dared us to sneak into the teachers’ lounge for those fancy snacks? We got caught because you tripped over your own shoelace and knocked over the coffee machine. You turned so red I thought you’d pass out.”
I groaned but laughed with him, leaning back in my chair, the food arriving but neither of us really touching it yet. “I was fat and clumsy, sue me. You covered for me though. Told the teacher it was your idea because you ’wanted to prove international students could cook better than the cafeteria slop.’ Lied straight to her face. I owe you for that one.”
“You owe me for a lot,” he teased, stealing a bite from my plate without asking, the casual way he did it making my alpha instincts purr. “Like every time a girl flirted with me and you’d suddenly remember you needed to ’borrow’ my notes right then. Jealous much?”
“Jealous? Nah,” I lied, but my voice cracked a little and I covered it with sarcasm. “I was protecting you from bad taste. Those girls were basic. You deserved better. Like… someone who actually saw how cool you were when you weren’t busy being the school savior.”
He paused, fork halfway to his mouth, eyes locking on mine. “Cool, huh? Coming from the guy who used to blush every time I hugged him after a fight. You were cute back then, Ohm. All soft and sweet under the chub. What happened to that guy?”
I shrugged, but inside my heart was racing because his scent kept wrapping around me, making my drive crank up, making me picture him in Thailand, belly round with my kids, laughing like this every night. “Life happened. Got tired of being the weak one. But the soft part? Still there. Just buried under the muscles so I don’t get bullied again. And you? You’re still the same pouty , good-looking pain in the ass who attracts trouble. Girls. Guys. Alphas. Whoever.”
Ye Jun’s cheeks went a little pink and he looked down at his plate, but he didn’t pull away when I reached over and nudged his hand. “Yeah, well. Trouble finds me. Tonight’s trouble is you calling me out of nowhere for a fancy dinner. What’s the real reason, Thai boy? Nostalgia? Or you finally gonna admit you had a crush back then?”
I froze for a second, then laughed it off chaotic and fast because if I didn’t I’d blurt everything. “Crush? Me? On the guy who punched bullies for me?.”
He looked up, eyes wide but smiling, and for a second the other alpha scent didn’t matter. ” That’s… kinda sweet. Stupid, but sweet.”
“Don’t,” I cut in, voice sharper than I meant, but I softened it quickly with a grin. “Don’t talk about that tonight. This is us. Old trio minus Titi. High school stories. Me trying not to stare at how hot you got. You stealing my food like always. Let me do this normally. .”
Ye Jun stared at me, then burst out laughing, the kind that turned into a snort. “Normal? You booked the whole restaurant, Ohm. That’s not normal, that’s extra as hell. But… okay. I’ll bite. Tell me more about Thailand. You gonna drag me there if this works? Show me the beaches, the food, all that?”
I leaned in, heart pounding but playing it sarcastic. “Beaches, food, and my family’s house big enough for… whatever. You’d look good there. With me. But first, more stories. Remember when Titi tried setting you up with that one guy who turned out to be straight and freaked out? .”
He interrupted, waving his fork. ” Bold. You were the biggest idiot, blushing every time.”
We went back and forth like that for hours, plates empty but conversation nonstop, me interrupting him when he got too cocky, him snapping back with old nicknames, both of us laughing until our sides hurt. Every time he talked I just watched his lips moving, that soft cute face, the way his scent kept pulling at me like it belonged with mine. I knew right then, deep down, no matter the mess with that other alpha, I was gonna make him fall. Marry him. Take him home. Give him everything.
By the time we left the restaurant I was shaking again, but good shaking. He hugged me quick at the door, scent everywhere, and said, “This was fun, teddy bear. Text me for round two?” I nodded, watched him walk away, and thought yeah. This is it. I waited years. I’m not waiting anymore. Even if it kills me laughing at my old self the whole way. I was going to fuck this but pouty omega, wife him, and put my sperms in him so he could carry our cute babies. I would burn the world for Ye Jun.
