Chapter 36: Invigilator
♦️ You have fought and defeated the Intermediate Stage Bronze Rank Tamer Tristan, along with his Intermediate Stage Bronze Rank demonic beast, the Emberhorn Goat. You have gained +30,000 EXP.
♦️ You have gained an additional +20,000 EXP for killing multiple enemies far above your level simultaneously.
♦️ You have leveled up.
♦️ You have reached Level 13. You have gained +2 Stat Points.
“From all my opponents so far, Tristan gave me the most experience points,” Ray thought as his eyes gleamed with satisfaction.
Fighting and killing Tristan was dangerous and exhausting, but it was also extremely rewarding, similar to clearing a boss encounter in a game that yielded a massive amount of experience.
But he hoped that he wouldn’t fight a cheat-like existence again.
Although equally rewarding, it was seriously annoying!
He pulled up his status screen and checked his Stat Points.
♦️ Total SP: 6
Without hesitation, he dumped all six into improving his stamina.
Ashclaw’s ability to make even a Bronze Rank Tamer do his bidding made Ray rethink his capabilities.
If he hadn’t thought wrong, in this town Ashclaw’s power and authority stood second only to the top-notch experts of the seven noble families presiding over White Sparrow alongside the local Town Master.
A man of his standing was bound to have countless aces hidden up his sleeves. Furthermore, with his deep pockets and ownership of a mineral-rich mine, it wasn’t far-fetched to assume he possessed life-saving treasures that could ensure his survival even in the face of unexpected assassination attempts.
If Ray went after Ashclaw half-assedly, he wouldn’t just fail to kill him, he would also lose his life in vain. Without thorough preparation and sufficient strength, confronting Ashclaw with his current ability would be nothing short of courting death!
Ray understood this clearly.
Thus, his next goal wasn’t to waste time scheming over how to kill Ashclaw, but to track down and tame a King-type demonic creature.
Possessing an inhuman amount of stamina would simply make the job easier. Thus, he added all his stat points into his stamina.
♦️ Your Stamina has increased from 2 → 8.
With his stamina soaring to a supernatural degree, Ray felt deeply energised like a power bank that could support multiple devices charged to the max.
“I feel like I could run for days on end or fight for hours without exhaustion dragging me down. It’s probably no illusion.”
Ray wasn’t boosting
What he felt was the true extent of his capabilities.
He could do everything he had just mentioned as his physique was comparable to Iron Rank demonic creatures specializing in strength, agility, reaction speed, and stamina.
This was simply the benefit of being an all-rounder!
“Let’s leave before someone troublesome comes.”
The commotion was bound to attract attention.
Lingering any longer in the town would mean drawing danger, questions, entanglements, and all kinds of unnecessary trouble upon himself.
So he had to leave and he couldn’t return until he was strong enough.
Before leaving, Ray picked up Tristan’s corpse and stored it into his interspatial ring.
A while later, a group of Tamers arrived from the Tower Center.
The group consisted of two men with graying temples and one smoking-hot woman. The men looked at least fifty years old, while the woman looked really young like a flower in full bloom. She seemed to be in her twenties.
They were Ashclaw, Kaki, and Nisha.
Nisha was the youngest sister of the Town Master, while Kaki was the town’s sole invigilator.
Invigilators were nobles who possessed unique abilities or commanded creatures that could aid them in investigating troublesome matters, allowing them to unravel mysteries and resolve cases with high efficiency.
The crown regarded invigilators as invaluable assets and entrusted them with great power to ensure they wouldn’t fail at their duties.
Foremost among their duties was the uncovering and foiling of schemes with the potential of threatening the very foundation of the Leon Kingdom.
Such critical matters, however, were reserved only for high-ranking invigilators, whose experience and authority allowed them to bear such heavy burdens.
Lower-ranking invigilators, like Kaki, were instead stationed in towns and cities, and their role was far more modest.
They handled local disputes and solved criminal and civil cases as they arose.
As the three stood before the ruins of what was once Ray’s sweet home, Nisha was the first to speak.
“Looks like things didn’t go as planned, Ashclaw.”
She had inherited the finest features from both her parents.
Her face was as delicate and lovely as a peach. Her skin was pale and smooth. Her raven-black hair were long enough to reach her ankles, and her body was curvaceous. She wore a fitted red dress that clung to her tightly, accentuating her curvy figure. Her voice was smooth, sultry, and sweet, carrying with it a dangerous charm that few could resist.
She looked beautiful and endlessly enchanting, but Ashclaw regarded her with nothing but wariness in his heart.
Nisha was not loved in or outside her circle. In truth, she was hated, feared, and despised.
Her personality was warped and cruel.
Out of spite and jealousy, she had ruined no fewer than a dozen beautiful women from lesser families and lowly backgrounds. Double that number was the tally of handsome men she had abducted, keeping them as pets in her courtyard to satisfy her lust and vanity.
She had never been held accountable for her crimes as her family was the law in this part of the kingdom.
They didn’t scold her for ruining so many lives because…
… Part of her cruelty served a greater purpose.
One of her tamed creatures was the Disciple of Lust, a Spirit-type demonic beast.
To strengthen and sustain it, she needed to constantly indulge in acts of passion. For Nisha, this was no burden. She loved indulging in the pleasures life had to offer. To her, taming such a creature was a perfect arrangement, a win-win situation.
It granted her a horrifying power. When she fused with it, her body transformed into that of a succubus—a predator draped in irresistible allure.
In that form, her charm became an inescapable weapon.
Those ensnared by her were stripped of all resistance; they could neither raise a hand against her nor defy her commands. Their will, their bodies, even their very thoughts became her tools to bend and twist however she pleased.
She was the kind of Tamer people truly feared.
Ashclaw feared her for the same reason.
He knew he wouldn’t be able to do a thing if she targeted him. Luckily, he was under the town master’s protection so she had never taken action against him, but he heard news of wealthy nobles going broke because of losing their entire fortune to her.
Just thinking about their loss made him shiver.
Wealth really meant nothing in front of true power.
“That might not be the case,” Ashclaw muttered, unease threading his voice.
A dark thought gnawed at him.
If, in his scheme to better secure the town’s greatest secret and eliminate two troublesome rats, he had inadvertently driven a squad of the town’s guards to their deaths, then he might have to face the wrath of the Town Master himself.
After all, the town’s guards were considered the limbs and eyes of the Town Master.
Their loss would not only enrage him but also stain his authority with humiliation, and if he judged Ashclaw responsible for this disaster, the price of appeasement would be so steep, so unbearable, that even Ashclaw’s heart quivered at the thought of it.
“Lord Invigilator, please help us find out what truly happened,” Ashclaw steadied his voice and said, turning toward Kaki.
Nisha’s eyes followed, narrowing slightly as her gaze settled on him.
Kaki met their eyes and gave a single, solemn nod.
