Chapter 77: The most dangerous battle yet
A green turtle shell formed and enveloped Ray with such speed it seemed like time had frozen for a moment.
The torrential flames crashed into the green turtle shell like a raging wave smashing into an unyielding cliff face. The green turtle shell trembled but didn’t break. However, its thickness was reduced to one tenth of its original size, and now it seemed as slim as a layer of skin.
“He survived?” Ashclaw burst out laughing as his anxiousness went away. “Thank god he survived. Even I have life-saving treasures. Why would my son not have a defensive treasure as well? I was worried for no reason.” He wiped the sweat off his face with the back of his hand and watched intently as Ray faced off against the Dire Wolf Commander.
“It’s strong. Too damn strong.” Ray eyed the Dire Wolf Commander cautiously from within the protective embrace of his turtle shell. This was the second time its effect was triggered. The first time it was triggered, Ray wasn’t as strong as he was right now. From this it could be seen how terrifying the beast was.
“It deserves to be ganged,” Ray glared at it, before glancing at Ashclaw. In the end, he decided not to bring out the Metal King Slime.
Bronze-rank Tamers could only tame two demonic creatures in their lifetime. If those two demonic creatures died, they wouldn’t be able to tame another one until they broke through to the silver rank.
The limitations of taming seals were clear.
Ashclaw already knew what tamed creatures Torvin had.
If he pulled out a new one from nowhere, it would surely arouse Ashclaw’s suspicion.
Considering how cunning the old fox was, he might realize the truth and make a run for it.
If that happened, Ray wouldn’t lose the opportunity to kill him.
He knew where the dungeon’s exit was thanks to the enchanted map— with Muri’s help, he had already prepared an ambush there.
However, if Ashclaw realized something was wrong and made a run for it, it would become troublesome to kill him. This place was big, and Ray didn’t want to waste his precious time hunting him down in this massive dungeon.
’Let’s hold back for now. I should be able to win this fight with my strength alone.’
A roar came from ahead.
Ray looked at the roaring Dire Wolf Commander—and what he saw made him shocked, his eyes trembling nonstop.
“It has been holding back just like me. Fuck!”
The Dire Wolf Commander’s body began to swell as it roared more and more. Its fur darkened to a deep blood-red, and its claws lengthened until they gleamed like forged metal. Fire gathered around its body, condensing into a mantle of flame that burned hotter than before. It was just standing on all fours, still, and glaring at Ray venomously—but the ground beneath its paws blackened and shattered, molten cracks spiderwebbing outward from the point of impact.
Truly worthy of being the boss of an E-rank dungeon.
Its second phase had begun!
♦️ The Dire Wolf Commander has transformed into a Flaming Dire Wolf, entering a berserk state.
♦️ Its strength has increased by 30%
♦️ Its intelligence has decreased by 50%
♦️ Its desire to kill host has consumed its mind. It won’t stop rampaging until it kills you.
Ray’s mouth twitched. He enveloped his body in a layer of Azure Wind.
At the same time, he used the ability of his gauntlets to decrease the gravity acting on him while increasing the gravity acting on his surroundings.
♦️ You have used Deadman’s Gauntlets to decrease the gravity acting on you.
♦️ Your speed has increased by +5.
♦️ You have used Deadman’s Gauntlets to increase the gravity acting on your surroundings.
♦️ Everything within a radius of 10 meters around you will feel heavy, their speed decreased.
The Flaming Dire Wolf sucked in air and howled.
A shockwave rippled outward like an explosion.
BOOOOM!
Trees splintered. The earth cracked open.
Ray’s shield shattered as the shockwave crashed into it. After shattering his shield, it smashed into him like a tidal wave. He was hurled backward, tasting blood in his mouth.
He forced it down his throat and twisted mid-air, forcing himself steady, and landed hard on one knee. His Azure Wind Blade trembled faintly in his grasp, but his grip only tightened.
His eyes lifted, calm and unyielding—but in that calmness, a trace of apprehension appeared.
The Flaming Dire Wolf had vanished from sight. Immediately, Ray realized what could have happened. It could use its assassination ability even in its transformed berserk state.
’I need to rely on my sixth sense.’ Ray decided. Since he couldn’t see where its next strike would come from, he focused on the warning provided by his sixth sense.
It triggered no sooner than he had closed his eyes.
A tingling sensation spread across his right ribs.
He immediately moved to guard that area.
A claw struck from the side, nearly tearing him in half, but his Azure Wind Blade intercepted the deadly attack at the last instant.
Ugh!
Ray groaned as although he blocked it the impact rattled his bone and send him skidding backwards by ten feet.
The Flaming Dire Wolf covered the gap that had opened between it and Ray in the blink of an eye as it melted into the shadows, vanishing from sight, before reappearing behind Ray, striking him from behind.
Ray detected the trajectory of its follow up attack, relying on his sixth sense.
He spun around, flashing the Azure Wind Blade in his grasp, parrying the Flaming Fire Wolf’s deadly attack again, sparks bursting like fireworks in the dark as his Azure Wind Blade met its flaming claw.
As soon as its assassination failed, it opened its maw. A sphere of compressed heat swelled at the back of its throat. The air warped around it, the power so concentrated that even Ray’s skin prickled in warning. With a snap of its jaws, the orb detonated outward in a ring of searing shockwaves.
The blast tore up earth, hurled boulders skyward, and sent burning fragments flying in every direction.
Ray’s bronze rank armour saved his life again.
The green turtle shell shaped barrier shattered, blocking the blast for him.
He surged forward through the storm, a single step carrying him right before the Commander’s muzzle.
Swhoosh!
His Azure Wind Blade slashed upward, piercing through its lower jaw and driving up into the roof of its mouth. The Flaming Dire. wolf thrashed violently, flames bursting from its body, claws lashing at him with frenzied strength.
Ray’s blocked these attacks simply by enforcing the defensive layer of skin made of Azure Winds by using using even more Azure Winds, thickening it. The claws and the flames failed to pierce through it.
“Die!”
He roared, forcing wisps after wisps of Level 2 Fire inside it through the Azure Wind Blade embedded in its flesh.
The wisps of level 2 Fire rampaged inside it, melting everything they came across. From its organs to its bones, all turned to dust.
The Dire Wolf Commander staggered back, its scarlet eyes dimming. A final snarl rattled its throat, then it collapsed, crashing into the ground with a thunderous boom.
