Chapter 55: Taming a King (3)
Stars were twinkling above. The trees in the surroundings were lush and green. Ray stood tense, cold sweat trickling down his face.
“My bad decision has come back to bite me in the ass,” he muttered in a low, bitter voice. The weight of his tone carried the sharp bite of frustration and the heavy undertone of looming danger, making the night air feel even colder.
Killing the Elite of the Ash Legion had been easy, but it had cost him valuable time. Now, he was surrounded.
Dozens of Fiends of the Ash Legion encircled him. Most were no stronger than the iron-rank tamers he had killed, but six among them stood at the bronze rank, each one strong enough to end his life if he slipped even once. Worse still, he had no knowledge of their individual abilities. What if one of them possessed a cheat-like skill capable of immobilizing him, or something just as insidious? In that case, once his Turtle Shell Armor exhausted its defenses, his death would be inevitable.
“This is a tricky situation,” Ray murmured, his eyes narrowing, every nerve in his body stretched taut like a drawn bowstring. He was ready to react to the first sign of danger and kill his way out.
“You have cost us four of our Elite,” Yasha said, his voice was cold and heavy with authority, sounding similar to someone used to instill both fear and obedience.
That was indeed the case.
Yasha was the Vice Commander of the Ash Legion!
“We will make you pay dearly for your transgression,” Yasha declared, his eyes glinting with killing intent, as his presence produced a tangible force, which pressed down on Ray like a suffocating tide.
This pressure dispersed as quickly as it came. Someone had intervened, deeply offending Yasha and surprising Ray.
“Who dares interfere with the matter of the Ash legion?!” Yasha shouted.
“I dared,” a shout like a lion’s roar rang out from outside the encirclement, pressing down on the hearts of everyone present.
Though it was nothing more than a roar, its power was overwhelming. The trees shook, leaves trembled, and the fiends felt their bodies weaken under its force. For some reason, Ray alone stood unaffected.
He turned toward the source of the roar. The gazes of the fiends followed.
They saw a young man standing tall, around six feet in height.
His face was strikingly handsome, reminiscent of the idols Ray had once seen in his previous life. His long golden hair, wild and untamed, flowed around his shoulders like a lion’s mane, and his golden eyes burned with majesty. He wore a simple jacket, hands casually stuffed into his pockets, yet his very presence radiated a pressure that felt like standing before a predator at the top of the food chain.
His sharp gaze swept over the encircled fiends before finally settling on Ray. He smiled at him and mouthed some words soundlessly.
If Ray could read lips, he would be able to tell that the golden haired youth was telling him not to worry, that he would take care of the over two dozen fiends surrounding him in a jiffy. However, Ray couldn’t read lips. Still, he felt he was mouthing something familiar.
“I thought there was a silver-rank tamer, but it’s just a pretty boy. We will have fun ruining you to death,” Yasha sneered, his tongue sliding across his lips lecherously. The fiends near him laughed unpleasantly.
To fiends, humans were nothing but prey and playthings. When they were hungry they would eat humans. When they were bored they would play with them, but they never played with humans gently. It was always rough, leading to their toy breaking down, so they were always in need of more toys.
Truly, amongst the demonic creatures, fiends were the most deranged. They were hated the most for a reason.
“I can’t be bothered to waste words with the likes of you,” the golden haired youth said, his tone flat yet thunderous. “Just know this—so long as I am here, your kind will never lay a hand on my people.”
With that, he slipped one hand out of his pocket and pointed a single finger at Yasha.
In the very next instant, Yasha ruptured like an overfilled balloon, his body exploding into a storm of blood and flesh. Pieces of him splattered across the fiends nearby.
Just like that, the Vice Commander of the Ash Legion, the butcher of countless human villages and the devourer and enslaver of thousands was erased from existence!
It horrified the onlookers.
“So strong.” Even Ray was suprised, gaping with his eyes wide opened.
“H-He is of the shattering mother!”
With their faces painted with the remains of their vice commander, the Ash Legion’s member finally realized the horror they were up against.
The Mother of Shattering was a fearsome figure that was like a haunting tale to the ears of fiends as she had killed many of their young and olds whenever she made an appearance. Her signature move was similar to the technique the golden haired youth had used to kill their Vice commander Yasha, so they related to him, instantly developing an intense aversion and fear for him.
The Mother of Shattering had traumatized them and it was showing as they turned their.
Their confidence shattered. Dread filled their hearts, and they made a run for it, but before they could escape, the golden haired youth quickly pointed his fingers at them.
Everytime he pointed at a fiend, a body would explode to smithereen.
In mere second, the over twenty fiends were reduced to merely one.
The golden-haired youth looked at the surviving fiend with intense curiosity.
“You survived the Shattering Mother’s First Curse? How did you do that?”
The fiend retorted sharply, “Why the hell do you think I would tell you anything?”
“I don’t need you to speak. I can figure out what I want to know on my own,” the golden-haired youth stated calmly.
