Chapter 67: Plotting Ashclaw’s Death (2)
Like a film playing across a cinema screen, Torvin’s entire life unfolded in Ray’s vision.
When Torvin was a child, he was very innocent and fragile.
He was afraid of the world, of strangers, of his father.
The only one he wasn’t afraid of was his mother.
He would chase after her shadow all day long, as if she was his entire world.
He would feel restless and anxious when she left his sight, unable to calm until he was once more embraced in her arms.
This tender phase didn’t last long as Ashclaw separated him from his mother to develop his character and personality into someone worthy of being his successor.
Torvin was given trips to the mine where men worked hard to break stone and make money for Ashclaw until their backs broke just so that they could put food on the table.
He saw workers whipped for resting a moment too long, and thieves lashed to death as examples.
His father allowed no mercy, no reprieve; those who stole from him paid with their lives.
The first few times, Torvin was horrified by these sights.
Repetition dulled the horror.
Fear gave him to a new emotion.
He found himself feeling curious.
Why did he get to enjoy life, eat whatever he wanted, do whatever he desired while these people were forced to suffer day and night just to cling on to life and live to see another sunrise?
Just what decided the difference?
Seeking clarity, he turned to his father.
Being a ruthless man through and through, Ashclaw told the innocent young child the brutal truth in the most raw and coarse way possible.
“In our world, strength means everything. The strong dominate the weak, and the strongest dominate them all. If you are the strongest, you can fuck anyone you want, whenever you want, however you want. If you are weak, you can only wait for your turn to get fucked. Son, tell me, do you want to be strong or do you want to be weak?”
These were Ashclaw’s direct words to his son, and they influenced him greatly.
“I-I want to be strong!”
Torvin had never experienced hardship.
From the day he was born, he was indulged in love, safety, comfort, and luxury.
His parents adored him as he was their first child, and he was given everything he wanted.
Thus, watching the life of the miners, he was greatly affected.
His mind was simple, and his empathy wasn’t well developed. The world he was shown until that point was confined to a beautiful bubble untouched by the cruelty of the world. When that bubble popped, he was directly exposed to the harsh sight that people were punished in this world just for being weak.
If you were weak, you could only make ends meet after working like a dog for your master.
At the same time, he realized the opposite was also true.
If you were strong, you could be like his father, who enjoyed the result of other people’s hard work, just because he was strong and could crush the weak like ants beneath his heel.
The child, having never faced any difficulties in his life, chose the easiest way out. He also wanted to be strong!
“Words mean nothing. You have to prove your conviction with your actions. Then I will show you the way to become strong.” Ashclaw’s words were like a devil’s whisper.
Unfortunately, the innocent child had fallen for them.
“How do I prove it?”
“Kill a man.”
“W-What?”
“You heard it right. I want you to kill a man. I will wait until you are ready. But don’t keep me waiting for too long if you don’t want to stay weak like them…”
Ashclaw wanted a strong heir to his legacy, so he didn’t hesitate to do what he believed was necessary. The child, deeply influenced by the sights he saw each time he visited the mine and by his father’s words, eventually gave in to the demand.
Torvin’s first victim was an old man with barely any strength… he was tied up and served to Torvin on a silver platter. When he butchered him like a pig to earn Ashclaw’s approval, he truly lost his innocence.
That marked Torvin’s descent into madness.
Ashclaw established the foundation upon which Torvin’s entire personality was built.
When Torvin succeeded in awakening a rare ranked seal and gained a powerful backing as a result, he used it to assist his father in one crime after another, ruining countless lives in the process.
Ray saw every single one of his wrong doings in raw detail.
He saw Torvin use his immense status to help murder anyone Ashclaw wanted gone.
He saw him kill investigators who got too close to exposing the father and son pair for the devilish bastards they were
He saw him murder officials who thought they could hold them accountable for their many sins in cold blood.
Even brave souls like the original owner of Ray’s body who made the mistake of causing trouble for the wrong man to get justice for his father died because of a scheme he coconoted.
He knew no sane man would choose to stay alive if they were being forcefully poisoned by the soul dispersing poison.
So he came up with a plan to ensure he would die from the soul dispersing poison and shared it with his father.
And finally, Ray saw the worst of all his crimes.
He saw him standing by his father’s side as they plotted the destruction of many places so that they can traffick humans to a grim laboratory.
There, familiar faces fattened up the young and old, from infants and young children to adults and the elderly, with pigfood before butchering them like one, grinding their brain, bones, and organs into fine paste, mixing it with other herbs in a temperature controlled cauldron to refine bundles of treasured healing pills that they ate with relish and sold throughout the Northern Outer Region with big and wide smiles.
A mixture of emotions erupted in Ray’s heart, but one overwhelmed them all.
Disgust.
He felt unprecedented disgust.
His disgust was so heavy he had no control over it.
His stomach churned.
His face paled.
He collapsed to the ground and puked!
Having ate nothing in a long time, all that came out was stomach bile.
“Disgusting.”
The first time he said the word, his voice was just a whisper.
“Disgusting.”
But as he kept repeating the words, his voice grew louder like a madman.
“Disgusting!”
His shout rang out like thunder, reverberating in the underwater cave.
“None of them deserve to live.”
His emotions condensed into one raw and primal thought.
“I want to fucking kill them all!”
His bloodshot eyes gleamed as he spoke with unrivaled conviction.
“I will kill them!”
“I don’t know how I will do it, but I will bring them down!”
“I will kill them no matter what!”
