A brand new day, when the academy was buzzing with new freshmen. Jin and his group sat on wooden chairs with a joined table divided into three parts, lining up to the back like in a university.

The class interior was spacious; it was an elevated classroom like the auditorium. There was a stage with a podium and blackboards arranged in rows.

A place for the teacher in charge who still didn’t show up, even after the chime of the bell rang across the academy.

Jin sat alone. In front of him, the three girls were chatting tirelessly, giving a bit of leeway within the rising tension.

Tania returned to her seat and focused on a book on her table.

’There are two of them now’. Jin whispered in his heart, finally meeting the other heroines beside Lily, who stayed loyal beside the main character.

At the entrance exam, he was a bit nervous because he did not see another figure besides Lily. But to think she just popped out of nowhere.

Jin turned toward the next person. He waited patiently as he saw Allen’s finger curled in tight fists, holding on to his tightened expression.

The boy patted his chest with a soft exhale before turning toward his seatmate. A girl with straight pink hair, her golden pupils blinked adorably as she stood up.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you all. My name is Lily. I’m a healer, and if you need treatment for a wound, don’t hesitate to ask me.”

Jin raised his brows. He never expected that the girl who had previously treated the protagonist with a flustered expression was actually packed with courage in her heart.

The introduction continued with Lucya, Iris, and Silvia. Jin followed after them and then shifted his attention toward these three individuals who were not present in the entrance exam.

“My name is Kain”.

“…Kael”.

“My name is Sereth”.

The three of them had distinctive features, especially the two who sat as Jin’s neighbors. They had short brown hair with an identical appearance.

But one of them, Kain, wore the uniform with a tidy appearance. Meanwhile, Kael wore his uniform roughly, with an unbuttoned button showing his chest.

Noticing Jin was staring at them, they snorted and glared at him, but Jin was unbothered and shifted to the other.

Sereth was a black-haired boy with a hunched posture. His long hair mostly covered his expression.

The boy’s pale and thin complexion shocked Jin, noticing that Sereth’s hands were so skinny.

“Okay, that’s good. Let’s start our first lesson, which is a practical test.”

Jin and the other students furrowed their brows, wondering what was inside the teacher’s head.

Dannan left the book on the podium, walked toward the door, and then returned to inform the students. “Hurry, follow me or you could get lost in this vast place”.

Seeing his laid-back nature made Jin sigh in exasperation. He stood up, followed by the trio.

Upon their action, the other reluctantly stood up and approached the man.

“Good”.

As they left the room, Jin let the three stroll ahead of him, and he followed behind them like a guard.

Like the teacher had said, the place was vast. They passed several hallways and turned, but still had not arrived at their destination.

Along the way, Dannan introduced several necessary places for the freshmen who were still oblivious to the academy’s layout.

He showed where the cafeteria was, a toilet, the second floor where their seniors were, etc. Thanks to that, the long trip was not boring at all.

Another minute passed, and they arrived at the straight hallway connected to the outside field.

On each side, a green carpet stretched wide, its rustling grass dancing gently with the passing breezes.

The warm air carried the smell of fertilized soil, which soothed the students’ hearts. They enjoyed the tranquil moment before arriving at a vast open field.

Without minding the students’ probing gaze, Dannan descended the marble stairs, which guided them toward the open field.

The place was mainly covered by trimmed grass. On its corner, red soil with white lines circled around the grass field.

’Are they doing marathons in this academy?’. Jin stomped his leg on the ground.

“Teacher, aren’t we going to be alright without our outdoor shoes?” Tania said, staring at the man with narrowed eyes.

After the girl said her piece, the other looked toward their shoes. True to what she complained, their shoes were favoured for indoor use.

“That’s easy. You just need to infuse the item with your own mana, and it will clean itself from dirt.”

Tania and the other blinked, but then they did what the teacher told them to and infused their mana into the shoes.

Jin was the only one who stood still. He didn’t touch his mana and even absorbed the man’s explanation.

The boy walked toward Dannan. His emerald eyes glinted with curious intent, indicating just what the teacher had in mind for bringing them into this field first thing in the morning.

“What’s the agenda?”.

All students gasped, hearing Jin’s casual question that seemed too curt.

But the man shrugged his shoulders and clapped both hands to gather everyone’s attention toward him.

“Everyone, I want you guys to spar with Jin as your opponent”.

“Oi, old man”.

Jin’s voice was sharp as he lost all his cool. The irritation he had buried since the exam days now flared without restraint. He threw away the notion of respect toward the man in front of him.

Dannan, who felt a chill seeping through his skin, gulped so hard that it made a sound. He flipped open his palm, and a medium pouch landed with a ’clink’.

“Here, take this as an apology and my gratitude”.

The man tossed the pouch, which Jin snatched midair. Jin loosened the string and opened it to reveal the glittering gold that blinded his eyes.

“I heard you are an adventurer in your homeland, so I think this kind of negotiation was more like you”.

Jin lifted his gaze while fastening the string on the pouch and storing it inside his Item Box. “Is this what a teacher should be doing?”

“Ghaha, of course not, but I realized that my swordsmanship was below you. Heck, even I was still behind your disciple over there”.

Dannan pointed his finger at Silvia, who flinched upon being mentioned. The other students, who heard it for the first time, boggled in shock, knowing that a beauty like Silvia was a disciple of a fellow student.

They focused on the black-haired boy who rubbed his chin, deep in thought.

“So do me a favor and please be their sparring partner”. Dannan slapped both hands together in prayer, before the exasperated boy.

“Fine, but you too should work a little bit”. Jin summoned his bokuto while shaking his head.

“Alright,”. A broadsword manifested before him, letting out a dull thud as it stabbed the ground.

All the students altered their gazes to see the two who were prepared and pushed the conversation without their consent.

Jin swept his gaze toward his classmate and declared his intention. “Who would go first?”.
