Chapter 149: 149 Control.
The sun had long shifted upward, glaring down at the sweet-drenched back of the Alpha Class students.
Hours had passed since the relentless endurance training that Jin conducted all of a sudden.
Their breath turned ragged, their outfits stuck to their skin, but they stood still.
No one dared to complain.
Not with Jin, who was jogging steadily, his breath even with a bit of sweat on his temple.
Jin’s straight gaze looked to the side, finding the others were on the verge of breaking. He halted in his steps and exhaled softly.
“Alright”. Jin walked into the middle of the field, watching his other classmates with a sidelong glance.
“Break into two groups, Swordsman and Mage”.
The students exchanged glances and did as Jin told them. The Vanguard team goes to the left, and the Rear to the right.
Jin knitted his brows, noticing Silvia was still standing in between. He saw the girl’s clenched teeth sway in between the two choices.
“Go to the mage, Silvia”.
Hearing Jin’s voice that cut through her hesitation like a blade, the girl went to the right.
“Good”. Jin glanced at the three males, feeling the stifling silence enveloped them.
Allen, with his timid personality, faced the two prideful twins who seemed determined to follow Jin’s instruction despite their first worst impression.
Even Kael, the rough and arrogant brat, now turned meek before Jin.
“You three swordmen”.
Hearing Jin’s clear voice directed at them, their throat tightened. They swallow the saliva hard, waiting for further instructions.
“Do three way spar! And remember just a spar, don’t let blood get into your head. Do it…”.
The three nodded and walked toward another field, and Jin shifted his attention toward the mage.
There was a reason why Jin prioritized the mage first.
It was simple because to become a mage, they needed something called theory to explain how it works and what will cause it in the end.
Different from Swordsmanship, which needed an action.
For as long as he stayed within the Alpha Class, all the mages in his generation still utilized the mana in their bodies, unlike him.
Theoretically, it was not wrong, for that was what humans had believed for generations since ancient times.
However, Jin was different, with a drop of wisdom from Athena. He honed his magic into a transcendence stage.
“Jin, what should we do?”.
Lily’s soft voice soothed the girls’ exhausted minds. She moved her feet only to be stopped midway, seeing raised his palm.
“Let me ask you guys as a mage”. Jin gazed over the group; he continued, crossing his arms over his chest. “What is the most important thing for a mage?”.
“Is it control?”.
Tania raised her melodious voice, attracting the group’s eyes to her.
“You’re right”.
Jin closed his eyes, nodding in agreement. Slowly, he opened his eyes and opened his mouth.
“So, why didn’t you use it? Instead of relying on your mana reservation, or mana pool inside your body or something?”.
“?”.
The girls’ brows furrowed in wonder, with huge question marks popped out on their heads.
As a last hope, Jin glanced at Iris in hopes of gaining her acceptance as a race the closest to nature.
However, the Elven girl tilted her head adorably, unsure of what response she should give.
“Yes, yes, darling, what do you mean by that?”.
Lucya abruptly raised her hand, closing the distance between her and Jin.
“Well, showing is easier”.
Jin stepped forward, letting other girls surround him in a circle. He extended his hand upward and gently tapped the flowing mana in the atmosphere.
Like a heartbeat, the mana pulsated around his arm, coiling like a sleeping dragon that was ready to be awoken.
The air hummed in joy, interrupting the passing breeze that began to swirl on the tip of Jin’s finger.
An invisible force gathered on his palm, making the girl’s hair flutter gently with each exhale.
Jin flicked his fingers, creating a tiny explosion that shook their eardrums.
The girls’ vision swayed, and an intense throb assaulted their brains, prompting them to clutch their splitting skulls, especially Iris, who had sensitive hearing.
“What was that for!”. Iris shot a glare, her bloodshot eyes filled with hatred.
“Sorry”. Jin smiled apologetically at the wrathful Elven girl.
Iris clicked her tongue and straightened her posture like the others.
He noted to himself to spoil the Royal Elves later in his heart. His emerald eyes scanned the girls’ reaction and spoke.
“What did you see?”.
“Are you just doing magic, right Tania?”.
With tears swelling in her eyes, Lily shifted to her side, asking Tania, whose face twisted in ignorance.
As someone who trained her magic ever since she received her talent, Tania could tell immediately that Jin’s earlier magic was superb, with no casting, delay, and forged with innumerable effort.
She couldn’t help but grit her teeth, noticing the difference in their power as a mage; worse, Jin was also a powerful swordsman.
’He’s a monster’. Tania swallowed her awe and nodded in response to Lily’s question. “…Yes, that’s what I see”.
Jin swept his gaze to the others until he stopped at Lucya’s side, who showed different reactions.
The girl’s blue eyes widened in shock, her mouth closed tight with clenched fists.
“Lucya?”.
His voice snapped the girl from her daze.
Lucya’s lips parted in a wide grin; her breath turned heavy in excitement.
“Mana in the atmosphere”.
Her words were like lightning that struck them, paralyzed, halting the other girls’ brains.
They finally realized how absurd and reckless Jin’s magic application was.
The sequence in conjuring a spell was as follows: Refined mana, which consisted of inside one’s own body > Strong imagination > Control the output and input > Manifested.
There were also other aspects to be concerned such as knowledge and experience.
What the world currently knew in using magic was casting it with the refined mana in their bodies, but what if using the abundant raw mana in the atmosphere?
It was the same as suicide, for the primal mana was impossible to control.
“That’s…”. Lily’s mouth hung open; she was too shocked to continue.
“…I see, so the secret of your magic. No wonder you can cast those high-level magic as nothing”. Tania began to mumble to herself, deep in thought.
“So, this was what Thalassa meant the other day”.
Silvia exhaled; she couldn’t express the swelling emotions that flooded her heart. Happy, shock, longing, and grit mixed in a hurl of chaotic current.
“Okay, enough with the riddle, let’s start training right away”.
Iris clapped her hands, shattering the silence within the group, and glared at Jin with exasperation. “Your meaning is. We should be able to do exactly what you did. You know that won’t be possible in a day, right?”.
“Of course, I know”. Jin raised his hands to block the Elven royal anger.
“Altought I say control, remember this! It all comes back to all of your own”.
The girls gulped to moisten their parched throats, their eyes focused and brimming with desire to step onto a new path.
“I managed to control the mana in the atmosphere, making it submit to my will, but you girls’ don’t try to copy me, because you’re having your own quirks and nature…”.
Jin paused to catch his breath and continued.
“You might as well ask for their cooperation, befriend them, or whatever… until you can borrow the unlimited power, just like I did”.
He glanced sideways, watching the girls’ nodded their heads in unison.
“Silvia and Iris asked your contracted spirit to help gather mana in your surrounding area”.
“Alright”.
“Okay”.
Seeing Silvia and Iris nodding, Jin threw his attention to the other. He saw that Allen dominated the spar.
’They’re doing great’. Jin chuckled and returned to the girls.
“Alright, let’s begin the training”.
