Chapter 122: 122 Unyielding Hearts 02.
Jin inhaled, he tapped the primal mana in the atmosphere and let his body greedily sucked it.
His vision blurred as an overwhelming raw power surged through his veins, pushing the limit of his body that was beyond exhaustion.
The injury that caused blood loss and the mental energy he spent fighting the grudge that lingered inside his katana shackled his physique.
However, he brushed it all off as if it were nothing. Jin always pushed through every challenge, even when his life hung by a thread.
[Elemental Enhancement activated]
His sight returned to normal, as power surged across his veins, nourishing every cell in his body with power, while blood dripped from his nose.
A rondo of blue and green, battling the undeterred black, happened before his sight. Jin focused mana in his toes, creating a tiny mana circle and lunged like an arrow.
Jin’s appearance was unexpected, as it halted the battle. His emerald eyes shone in firm determination as he drew the blade in one single motion.
“Gaaahk!”.
Lycanthros screamed, his face crumpled in anguish, with a bloody line plastered on his back.
He landed on the ground and shifted his centre of gravity, facing the werewolves.
With the blade levelled around his waist, Jin tensed his grip and swung the blade to cut the monster’s right waist.
Lycanthros roared as blue blood splattered on the ground. Silvia and Iris, who saw their chance, infused their weapon with mana and generated a spell.
“Ice lance”. Silvia recited her spell.
A glittering mist gathered. It turned into a translucent lance hovering in midair.
With a single thought from the girl, it shot forward and pierced the werewolves’ left thighs, letting it howl in pain.
“Binding Tempest”. Iris’s sharp voice rang above.
She pulled the bowstring and infused the arrow with her spirit power. In front of the arrow tips, a magic circle formed.
It glowed menacingly while the Elven girl released her arrow, making the arrow pass the circle.
However, things changed as the arrow blurred and multiplied into dozens of green sticks rained down upon Lycanthros.
The arrows pierced his shoulders, chest, abdomen, hands, and thighs. Then, the arrows melted as it turned into a net, wrapping around the werewolves body.
“Damn you!”. Lycanthros’ body lost its freedom. Each time he breathed, he exhaled blue blood dripping to the ground.
A looming death approached beside him in the form of Jin.
Jin’s body was tense. Stilled as he spread his legs in Iai posture. His breath was shallow, focusing only on a single thing that kept occupying his mind the moment he started his training centuries ago.
“Cut!”.
[Mind Sword Skill active]
The world flinched under his reign.
Lycathros, Silvia, and Iris, who stood a bit far from the scene, could witness the monster’s impending death.
Time slowed down, erasing all traces of colour in the world.
Jin inhaled and gripped the katana’s hilt while drawing it in one fluid motion.
[Black Heaven Style Swordsmanship – Lightning Flash]
Dread washed away the blood on the werewolves face. His face grimaced in pain from the attack of spirit power that sapped his dark power and stirred something hidden in his mind.
A flash of memories resurfaces. It is blurred but slowly pieced together into a clear image of how he got here.
***
A hooded figure who carried Lycanthros’ core everywhere it went placed it inside this place, letting him consume its grudges and mana to grow.
The hooded figure licked its sensual, moist lips and whispered something that made his mind cloud over.
(Listen, when you awoke, …consumed a rotten flesh, …then slaughter everything that stood in your way)
The voice was seductive, filled with a sensual charm that completely enveloped his thoughts with nothing but obedience.
Her pink lips touched Lycanthros’s core, turning him into her doll.
(Fufu, do well for me, earn your freedom, and you will taste the gift I can offer … )
***
Lycanthros’ breath stopped, as an oppressive pressure choked him to death.
He saw the world turned upside down as he witnessed his own half-torso bathed with blue blood.
’No! I won’t die here-not to you’. Lycanthros struggled to break free from the binding.
However, it was futile as it kept getting tighter the more he retaliated.
The werewolves’ eyes bleed, and something inside him pulsates, on the verge of awakening.
As he saw the blade inches closer to his vulnerable waist, he roared. “I refused to die by your hand!”.
Above the magic circle glowed intensely, pouring a concentrated power of accumulated miasma and mana from the dungeon into Lycanthros’ body.
“Awooo!”. Lycanthros’s howl distorted the space.
Jin’s body stiffened, and he was hit by a terrifying pressure that gripped him like a giant hand, squashing him like a bug.
His katana only slices halfway through the werewolves waist. He couldn’t muster a bit of strength and saw a shadow towering over him.
Jin flinched, his eyes widened in horror.
A spear-like tooth presented before his eyes, before he shifted his body at the last time, and Lycanthros pierced those teeth to Jin’s shoulder with a sickening crunch.
“Aaaahk!”.
Jin roared. A searing agony tore his consciousness. The jagged teeth sank deeply; they ripped his flesh with blood spurting like a fountain.
The monster’s jaw clenched, shattering his bones with an unnerving crack.
The boy howled like a beast, his blurry vision refused to let his consciousness escape from his grasp.
“Jin!?”.
Three overlapping screams rang like an echo, travelling far away toward the distance, as a single girl, hidden from the world’s eyes, fought her own battle.
***
After separating from Iris, Lucya, who bathed her own body with darkness magic: Stealth, walked through the vast place.
While maintaining stealth to cut her presence from the world, her brain also had to arrange another spell that was once common in fairy language.
Lucya focused a mana in her eyes, reciting a spell she read in those books Granny had lent her.
“Manifest, Spirit Eye”. Lucya’s blue eyes flickered in gold.
It shone under the dimmed place as she gazed up, searching for the core of the magic circle.
“Ugh!” Lucya growled. A burning sensation stung her eyes, and they started to bleed in tears.
However, the girl bit her lips until they bled. She refused to give up with just this much when the others were fighting for their life on the line.
Lucya poured more mana into her eyes, peering through the layer of the magic circle above.
One by one, she peeled through its outer rings and rune symbols and scratched the centre, where the complex structure, resembling a maze, burned her eyes.
’Almost there…!?’. A blinding light scorched her brain, letting blood spurt from her seven orifices.
Her legs turned soft as she fell, convulsed and coughed up much blood from trying to see an ancient magic that was still beyond her grasp.
Not in the talent aspect, but in practical issues. If Lucya was serious about practising it, she could use ancient magic, like flipping her hand.
She stayed still, not knowing how long the time had passed. Lucya’s golden eyes lost their cluster, staring blankly ahead.
’I just used it for a moment, and my body became like this?’. Lucya cursed, tensing all the muscles in her body to get up.
Lucya’s trembling arm collapsed beneath her, but she slammed the ground hard, forcing her body upright. ’Come on, move my body, move!’.
Lucya kneeled with sheer will power alone. Her breath was erratic and hot, as her lung was caught on fire.
“Again”. Lucya exhaled sharply, focusing mana in her eyes to recite the spell again.
“What happened?”.
She raised her eyes and noticed the magic circle pulsated in an ominous sign. It shone with dark unsettling malice, sucking all the surrounding miasma and mana alone.
“This?…!?”.
A pained roar echoed from the distance.
The girl shifted her attention to the source and saw that the werewolves were biting Jin.
“Jin!”. Lucya, Silvia and Iris’ voices overlapped.
Lucya saw the two try to get closer to him, but the powerful aura from the monster prevented them from taking a step closer.
The girl glanced toward the magic circle that kept pouring massive power into the werewolves.
Her finger curled tightly, its nails cutting through the skin, leaving a red trail on her hand.
“Manifest, Spirit eyes!”.
Lucya howled as she squeezed every bit of mana in her body, pouring it into her golden eyes.
The girl held her ground firm and stood up, albeit staggered.
She glared at the magic circle with blood flowing like tears, but she didn’t stop and would never be stopped until she found her target.
“There!”.
Lucya summoned the green arrow Iris had prepared beforehand. It was coated with spirit power.
She raised her left hand, then let the arrow float next to it.
The girl began to visualize holding a bow made from wind elemental magic.
“Break for me!”.
Lucya stretched the invisible string and released her finger, letting the arrow soar to the sky.
Like a hawk, it screeched while ripping through any resistance on its path. It pierced the magic circle core, creating a huge crack over it before shattering in myriad pieces.
The glittering shards fell to the ground and turned into mana before they touched the ground.
A golden light exhaled the breath of life to the land. The warm, bright glow chased away the darkness that gnawed, like disease.
Lucya lost the strength to stand, or rather, she had no strength to do anything but breathe.
Her body, pulled by gravity, fell with a resounding rustle. The grass had caught her in a gentle embrace.
As she lay, her face facing her other comrade, who managed to decapitate the monster’s head.
’We did it’. Lucya exhaled. Her eyes closed with a sunshine on her expression, finishing the task she had put on herself.
