Chapter 120: 120 Near-Death Resolve.
A deafening roar echoed on the fifth floor. It shattered the calm environment with a gouged ground and slash marks.
Jin’s back slammed to the ground hard, blasting all the air in his lungs as the shockwave tore through the battlefield.
The dust and the broken stones erupted, creating a veil to cover his trace for a brief moment.
’He is strong!’. A chill crept down his spine as a black beam fell from the sky and rained down directly on his position.
Jin sprang up, his expression hardened as he barely dodged the attack from the werewolves.
His feet carried him far away, zig-zagging through the air, as if it were his turf.
Looking up, the ominous magic circle kept pulsating, alive. And Jin could see the miniature sun above slowly dimming its light.
“You’re pretty strong for a human”.
A mocking tone came from behind, and Jin swung his blade in reflex.
*Clang!
Blade and claws met, scattering sparks as his katana screamed against the enemy’s obsidian claws.
“Hmm,”. Lycanthros’s nose twitched, sniffing around Jin’s body.
Its red eyes widened with shrunken pupils, and its elongated mouth spread its white canines, which could tear a god’s flesh.
“I smelled Divinity on you”.
’What!?’. Jin’s body flinched, spot on, which made the grin on the werewolves widen.
“Who was your patron?”.
Lycanthros thrusts his right kick. It dug into Jin’s abdomen, stirring up his intensity as he slammed into the ground.
Blood spurted from his mouth, followed by an excruciating agony that assaulted his nerves.
Jin’s vision swayed, but he bit his lips hard, making a small cut to keep his consciousness from slipping away from his grasp.
Within his blurry sight, he lifted his gaze ahead, watching the werewolves leisurely step onto the ground. Its face was the epitome of composure.
“I can’t believe it. Even till this time those barbarians still reign supreme under Heaven”.
Lycanthros exhaled, loosening his tension as he looked up toward the glowing magic circle.
Jin wiped the blood from his lips and spat the tangy fluid in his mouth. “What? You have a grudge against them or something?”.
The werewolves were silent, staring at the sky for a few seconds before shifting to Jin.
“How was Zeus doing?”. Lycanthros’s tone was laced with mockery, and the desire to kill the being who held the name was palpable in plain sight.
As those words slipped Lycanthros’ mouth, the world dimmed, and a thunderous roar crackled around the atmosphere, giving a warning.
Jin widened his eyes. The rumble from the sky was gone, but the lingering aftermath was enough to hammer him like a nail stuck to a piece of wood, unmoving.
“Hoo, it seemed the sky still remembered me.” Lycanthros chuckled, keeping his eyes straight, waiting for an answer. “So, how is he?”
The boy exhaled sharply, chasing away all the exhaustion gnawing at his being. He pondered for a second before opening his mouth.
“He is gone, dead! Killed by his own son, Ares, who currently claims the throne of Olympia?”.
Silence hung between the two, a second two, and Jin witnessed the werewolves trembling and looking down.
His jet-black fur stood in wary, before a thunderous laughter echoed through the vast space.
“Hahaha, Ahahaha, as I thought those barbarians were helpless, khihihi…”.
Lycanthros spread his arms wide, facing the sky with a deranged smile.
“Finally, that damn geezer was gone. With this, Lord Typhon’s revenge to destroy Olympia will succeed…”.
The glow on the magic circle above intensified. Jin lifted his gaze and noticed shadows slowly encroaching on the miniature sun.
Light faded, casting an eerie twilight over the land.
A day turned to dusk in a moment as an eclipse veiled the space with unnatural gloom.
Jin saw the werewolf’s body bulge and grow twice its size, from two meters to four. Its limbs were encased in thick muscles that could block even a mithril.
His jet-black fur shone with a bit of silver, reminiscent of the moonlight.
The pressure hit Jin like a thunder, almost stealing his consciousness away.
Jin tightened his grip and inhaled deeply to calm his pounding heart. He kicked the ground, shooting like a missile toward the werewolves’ unguarded back.
He swung the katana, aiming to decapitate it in one strike, but he was already noticed.
“You’re slow”.
Sparks flared as the blade met with the werewolves’ enlarged claws, and cracks formed across the blade.
Lycanthros grinned, his lips peeling back to reveal his spear-like teeth. With a gentle twist from his hand, the blade in Jin’s hand shattered and turned into glittering dust.
Each piece that was scattered in the air reflected Jin’s shocked expression as red blood spurted from his torso.
Five claws marked Jin’s left shoulder to his right waist.
The boy coughed up more blood, and his vision was distorted by the heavy blows that ripped his consciousness.
His body flung away without restraint, rolling on the ground several times before it stopped, unmoving.
“Good thing I ate that boy’s hand”. Lycanthros clenched his fist in delight. “Without it, I wouldn’t regain some of my power to summon the eclipse spell”.
Lycanthros’ voice was small, barely caught by Jin’s hearing senses.
Jin forced his trembling body to move. He was on four, looking at the ground that was smeared with his own blood.
’Haa, haa, he’s strong’. Jin kept regulating his breath, holding onto his throbbing wounds.
He gritted his teeth and stood up with his sheer willpower. His face twisted in deep anguish as the wound was getting stretched following his movement.
“Hoo, still standing even after receiving that wound”. Lycanthros voiced his awe, seeing a human with grievous wounds still standing straight.
The boy raised his right hand. His katana was shattered, and the weapon he had received from Silvia at that shop was now only a memory.
He stored the remnant and wanted to summon his other one, but a flash of memory halted his thoughts.
…”Be careful with this weapon, it still holds a deep…”….
Grandpa Joseph’s words resonated within his consciousness, telling him to be ready for what was to come.
“What’s the matter? You didn’t draw your weapon?”.
Jin waved the thoughts in his head and prepared his stance for hand-to-hand combat.
[Black Heaven Combat Style]
The monster held its breath deep, watching the change in the boy’s demeanour.
A wound gnawed at his consciousness, but the boy’s will prevented him from submitting. He refuses to accept his fate.
Lycanthros widened his smile, and with a single step, the soil cracked as his body left an afterimage.
He swung his claws downward, tearing the atmosphere and even the ground.
The boy sidestepped, his movement was fluid, then launched a counterattack that hit his unguarded left ribs.
’This much power from that wounded body’. Lycanthros licked his nose and began to hurl a barrage of attacks at the kid.
As time passed, the boy’s movements slowed. But his calculative thinking kept the battle prologue, which stirred an impulsive instinct inside Lycanthros’s heart.
’You brat’. A black aura with a tint of silver hue burst forth from his body, towering till it reached the sky.
Jin coughed blood, his vision narrowed in darkness. Strength gradually left his body, but his mind refused to let go of the battle before him.
Because he knew that the moment he let it go, Silvia and the others who evacuated above would be in grave peril.
That’s why he forced his eyes open, hardened his thoughts, and threw away any hesitation in putting his life in this battle.
The werewolves rise the stake, his aura pierced through the sky, dyeing the world in eerie malice.
’Let’s do this’. Jin inhaled as he tapped the primal mana that raged in fury, because of the law of causality the eclipse inflicted, making the dungeon fume.
’I see, thanks for helping me’. Jin’s body sucked the surrounding mana to enrich his veins, and enhanced his strength ten fold.
He could hear his flesh shrieking in terror, and his bones rattling from the reckless behaviour Jin took.
Both auras clashed. Green and black glared at each other before a cold mist spread its blizzard, halting time itself.
“Sorry, I’m late”.
A girl stood before Jin, showing her silver hair that danced in this violent storm. Her neck twisted to the side, peeking through her azure lens that reflected Jin’s baffled expression.
“Don’t worry, Jin. I will protect you”.
