Chapter 80: 80 Reunited.
Jin, accompanied by Silvia, wanders around the town. Their shadows swayed together under the bright sky. Even though it was winter, the sun glared like a dagger above.
At this time of year, the winter was slightly different, when the cold was still present, but the absence of snow that used to fall during late Dekemv until late Ianoios.
Those are the names of the months in this world to know of. There are twelve of them, the same as his previous world.
It started from Ianoios, Phebros, Mart, Aphril, Iunios, Iulios, Avgoust, Septemv, Oktov, Noemv, Dekemv. Each month has thirty days, divided into five weeks, with six days present.
The day in this world started with Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Light and Darkness.
Despite the mysterious shifting weather, Jin and Silvia watched the bustling town, where many people loitered around, their hands packed with bags or kids brimming with smiles.
“Heeh, this was a good place”.
Silvia nodded her head while her gaze swept around, drawing much attention from her silver hair that fluttered around. She was like a magnet, pulling a certain urge within people.
“Come on, this way, Silvia”.
Jin grasped her smooth hand, making the girl jolt, and the onlooker’s jaw dropped to the ground to see the faint pink on her cheeks.
Both weaved through the crowds and arrived at the buzzing market, which, despite the cold, was still full of life.
However, their destination was further on the opposite place. Jin knitted his brows, recalling the exact map in his mind.
After a minute of searching, he stopped in front of a grey building that seemed worn out but had a firm foundation. On top of the door, a sign with an anvil and hammer greeted him with a creak.
“Let’s enter”.
Jin pushed the wooden door and greeted him with a clattering bell that alerted the person inside. Silvia stepped her foot inside, sniffing an earthy scent and creaking wood. Her eyes widened to see the clean, wide interior filled with a variety of equipment.
“Grandpa, how were you doing?”.
His clear voice echoed inside the empty room. A hollow wall covered by a cloth fluttered from behind the counter, and a short old man stepped out.
“Who is it, Hm!?”.
Grandpa Joseph, whose appearance seemed to refuse to age, widened his eyes. His lips spread to reveal his grin.
“Gahaha, it’s you, brat. It’s been a while”.
“Yeah, It’s been a while”.
His steps let out a thud as he approached the counter while bringing the girl with him.
“Grandpa, this is Silvia. I was showing her around the town”.
Silvia bowed her head slightly, facing the man’s robust and rough appearance. She gulped but managed to smile, which the man appreciated warmly.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, sir Joseph”.
“Nice to see you, girl.” Joseph nodded and shifted his sharp gaze toward the boy. “Then, what business did you have with me?”
“The truth is…”.
Jin spilled his intention to come to the shop. At first, Silvia knitted her brows at how easily Jin revealed everything to the man, but upon further probe, Jin’s gaze was soft, filled with adoration toward a family.
This was another side of Jin, and Silvia was unaware of it. She kept her mouth shut and let them dive into the conversation, awaiting the results.
“I see, so that was the situation”.
Silence hung between them as those last words left Sir Joseph’s mouth. Time stretched as the second felt like an hour. The man exhaled and waved his hand.
“Come here for a second, brat”.
Jin knitted his brows and lifted his feet toward the counter.
“What is it, Grandpa?”.
“You!”. The man raised his fist high before swinging it down with a dull thud, “Foolish brat!”.
“Ouch!”.
Jin clutched his throbbing skull while veins popped out from Sir Joseph’s temple. He gnashed his teeth together; a flame flickered in his brown eyes. Sir Joseph pointed toward Jin’s head and said.
“Let that pain be a reminder! Next time, don’t act recklessly and use your brain for a bit”.
“You say that as if I’m a fool”.
Jin placed a hand on his throbbing head with brows furrowed together.
“Of course you are! Listen, in the first place. no sane person dares to challenge a dragon, and alone at that…”.
The old man’s hoarse voice bounced off the room, facing the boy with his shoulders slumped down.
Silvia covered her lips, holding back the urge to giggle when she watched their bickering, which reminded her of family at home. ’Fufu, they are surely a family’.
***
After a long discussion and sermon, Jin finished placing his order and Silvia, who was reluctant at first, asked to have some leather equipment made from the dragon skin.
Jin kept the whole carcasses of the beast, which his father had formerly held, inside his Item Box. He also still had the ore he received from the Dungeon at the Duke’s territory, but he decided to hold it for a while.
“Well then, Grandpa Joseph, we will excuse ourselves”.
“Thank you for your time”.
Jin raised his hand while Silvia bowed her head in elegance. Joseph waved his hand and pointed toward the door.
“Go, enjoy your outing together”.
Both pulled open the door with a clattering bell and left the place. They proceed in silence, enjoying the silence that envelops the surrounding area.
Silvia occasionally matched their steps and stole a glance at Jin’s side profile, chuckling to herself.
“Silvia, do you want to see the marketplace?”.
She placed a finger on her chin and lifted her gaze, “That’s right, I’m a bit curious about the Market in this town”.
“Okay then, that’s decided”. Jin nodded, and both strode toward the empty street.
As usual, the dazzling color of various stalls and the packed activities of the crowd left the two baffled. They visited every stall that caught their interest and sampled some of the meals and food that were presented.
Jin didn’t forget to stock up on some ingredients and food in case a situation like the one several days ago happened again.
With street food in their hands and mouths, both enjoyed the festive atmosphere until Jin spotted a blonde ponytail swaying gently before a stall selling accessories.
“Iris?”.
The woman flinched, then turned her attention toward the source and opened her eyes.
“J-Jin, you are back?”.
“Yeah, it feels like it’s been a while”. Jin scratched his cheek and stood before the girl.
Iris lifted her gaze and gulped her saliva to suppress her pounding heart that suddenly went wild. She inhaled and reached to her chest area only to be stiffened by the figure of a silver-haired beauty that peeked through Jin’s back.
Blood rushed through her head, and her gaze sharpened. Iris pointed her finger toward the silver girl and opened her mouth.
“Who is she? Is she your acquaintance?”.
Jin nodded his head and pulled the girl beside him, “Her name is Silvia Frost, the second Daughter of Duke Frost”.
The girl, Silvia, shifted her hardened face toward the boy, “Jin, is this okay?”.
“Don’t worry. Iris is a trusted person of mine. She wouldn’t easily reveal your identity to others.”
After hearing those words from the boy, Iris averted her gaze. She exhaled sharply and shook her head to get rid of the heat on her cheeks.
Iris turned her back and faced the stall once more. She carefully listed the accessories that matched her daughter’s preference.
In front of her spread, several boxes adorned with accessories from necklaces, bracelets and ear piercings. Its gleaming jewel reflected in her green eyes, but the girl bit her lips, unsure what to choose.
“What are you so worried about?”.
A shadow slipped beside her. His calm presence brought a soothing wind that calmed her swirling mind. Iris turned to the side, her mouth wide, but the word got stuck in her throat.
“What’s the matter?”. Jin tilted his head and calmly stared at her trembling pupils.
“Well, actually…”.
Iris told him and the girl behind them that the day after tomorrow. Nina, her sister’s daughter, was having a birthday.
Jin’s breath stopped. His emerald gaze lingered around Iris’s expression before he snapped from his daze and shouted.
“What!? Why didn’t you tell me about this?”.
His outburst echoed within the crowd, which attracted a curious gaze from others. His sight jolted down, and a throbbing pain assaulted his head; it came from Iris’s instinctive retort.
“You fool, don’t shout in the middle of this place”.
Iris glared, and her low growl sent chills down his nape, making him choke on his breath.
“I’m sorry”. Jin scratched his head and glanced at the stalls.
Jin paused, his hand covering his lips. He stood there like a tree, unfazed by others and dwelling in his own thoughts.
After dozens of seconds passed, he peeked through his back and watched Silvia nod her head while exhaling softly. He read between the lines, and her expression seemed to tell him, ’I will leave it to you to make your decision. ’
’Thank you, Silvia’. He nodded in acknowledgment before facing Iris—a dark line on her forehead, crushing her natural beauty.
“Iris, can I also attend Nina’s birthday?”.
“Hm?”. Iris glazed up, “Well, I don’t mind. Nina will be happy if you are also there, but…”.
Iris watched the girl behind Jin, who kept her mouth closed ever since they talked. The boy lightly pounded his chest and declared.
“Don’t worry. I will present the best birthday for her”.
“…T-Thank you”.
The three started discussing the plan, and the waiting day arrived.
