Chapter 63: Attention players. The Reincarnation Games are temporarily stopped until further notice ::Part 2
Commander Stella,Lieutenant Damion, and Jamie moved through a long, dark corridor, walking in the same order their titles carried. Cold clung to the air, sharp and biting, like the inside of a freezer. Jamie shivered uncontrollably, his breath fogging faintly, while the other two showed no reaction at all. This was nothing new to them. They had walked this path countless times.
Beneath their feet, glowing white footsteps appeared with every step, lighting up the darkness before slowly fading away. The effect was almost ceremonial, a flashy detail that gave the corridor an unsettling, mysterious beauty.
Jamie’s head hung low. He looked like a traumatized chicken that had fallen into water and been left under the sun to dry—exhausted, shaken, barely holding himself together.
“Um… sorry for asking,” he finally said, breaking the silence, his voice thin with caution. “But who are you… and where exactly are we going?”
“You mean to tell me,” the lieutenant replied sharply, “you followed us without even knowing who we are?”
“Don’t get me wrong,” Jamie said quickly. “I feel like I’ve seen you before—I just don’t know where. And also…” He swallowed. “I turned into a demon right in front of all the players in Midworld. Even if I stayed, I would’ve been taken down or worse. Anywhere was better than that hell of a place.”
“Aaah,” the lieutenant sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “You’ll get all your answers when we arrive at Astro.”
“Astro?” Jamie repeated.
“Yes,” the lieutenant said, pride slipping into his voice. “The main headquarters of all demons in the cosmos.”
Astro was his creation—one of the very few beings who had helped design and build it. A planet that could change speed while moving, bend its own shape, and vanish when needed. The ultimate escape. A sanctuary meant to give demons time—time to survive, to organize, to exist.
“And for why you feel like you’ve seen us, it has to be because of Emma’s visions!”
An awkward silence followed his answer, Emma’s image surfaced instantly in his mind—the demon girl he had met alongside Bray. Her face shone like a living painting, her gentle magic soothing their hearts like cold water under a scorching sun.
Then the image shattered.
Fragments of her smile broke apart, replaced by the twisted monster the goddess had turned her into for amusement. Flesh tore. Blood sprayed. Screams echoed. He felt his chest tighten, his throat threatening to give in.
A massacre.
Jamie had been through too much—far more than a seventeen-year-old should ever have to endure.
“She sacrificed herself so she could reach you,” Commander Stella said quietly. “Just like any of our kind would.”
“But why me?” Jamie asked, almost to himself. His thoughts spiraled. Is it because of that Demon Lord thing she mentioned?
“That’s not for me to tell,” Commander stella replied. “Just know this—whether her death mattered or not depends entirely on how you move forward with the changes coming your way.”
“If I’m being honest,” Jamie said after a pause, “I didn’t even know I had this power. I didn’t know I was a demon at all.”
A faint light appeared at the far end of the corridor, growing brighter with each step.
“We’ve arrived!” the Lieutenant announced, his voice sharp and brief, like a pilot addressing passengers before landing.
…
Back in Midworld
A hidden meeting room lay buried deep within the structure—dark, sealed, and suffocating. A round table occupied the center, surrounded by figures seated close together, like guests at a tense wedding.
At the farthest chair sat the goddess. Lost in thought, unmoved. The heated arguments around the table barely reached her ears.
“We should’ve killed the bastard before he had the chance!” the captain of the Blue Jaguars barked, regret laced with fury.
“No use crying over spilled milk,” another voice replied. “Our real concern now is the people. Everything was broadcast across Midworld like an open book.”
“Riots won’t be a problem,” the White Jaguars’ captain added casually. “Pick five or ten troublemakers and kill them as examples.”
A scoff came from the Blue Jaguars’ side. “Surely the Grid Lions’ captain has a plan to get us out of this mess. Or has he finally lost his touch?”
Silence fell. All eyes turned to him.
“I don’t see the problem,” Captain Clark of the Grid Lions said calmly.
“What do you mean?”
“Order is an illusion,” he continued. “One we give to people. When they think it’s been taken away, they react violently. Normally, that benefits us—rash decisions lead to high death counts. But not this time.”
“And why not?”
“Because we built a peaceful world out of garbage,” he said firmly. “And I’ll do anything to keep it that way.”
“That still doesn’t solve our problem,” someone snapped.
“We shift the narrative,” he replied. “Anyone with horns can easily be turned against humans. But for that to work…” He paused. “We need a Lord of Hope.”
…
Jamie emerged into the demon world—and froze.
It looked like Earth.
Lakes stretched endlessly, trees swayed gently, and the air felt alive. Statues of honorable demon lords stood scattered across the land, each carved in traditional clothing—from children to full-grown men. Their culture was etched proudly into stone.
“Wow…” Jamie breathed.
They floated inside a glowing sphere that carried them toward a massive chapel—similar to the one he had seen years ago, but far larger, built to accommodate countless demons gathered around it.
Are we about to meet some kind of priest? he wondered.
He wanted to ask—but his strength vanished.
Just standing drained him. Curiosity surged, but his body couldn’t keep up. His vision blurred. A sharp ringing filled his ears. Something warm trickled down his face.
“Damn… what’s with the blood?”
He lifted his finger, staring at the red coating it as he wiped his ear. His knees shook violently, threatening to give way.
The commander and lieutenant looked at him—not surprised. Expectant.
“That’s Ark Law for you,” the commander muttered. “I’d be more shocked if you didn’t collapse.”
Suddenly, Jamie hit the ground.
“Ark Law… that technique?” he whispered.
The memory was vivid—the flawless attack, the absolute destruction he had unleashed in demon form.
Now he understood.
This was the price.
