Chapter 73: The Battle In The Skies
“As we speak right now, the Goddess is on her way here with her entire army… You will all be killed like rats!”
The scientist continued ranting, perhaps to mask the fear gnawing at him—the fear of what the demons might do to him before the goddess arrived.
Fuck. An attack is coming, and we only have a few demons capable of defending themselves. Even if we tried to relocate them, it wouldn’t be in time before the fight begins. We’re being forced into a corner. Jamie… what should we do?
Kasa’s thoughts spiraled. Sweat beaded along his forehead as he sifted through plan after plan, discarding each one the moment it formed. Nothing held. Nothing worked.
Silence pressed heavily into the room. They had always expected the Goddess to intervene eventually—but blocking the other demons from returning to Astro had never been part of the equation.
“Let them come.”
Jamie’s voice sliced cleanly through the stillness.
Shock detonated across the room—including on the traitor’s face.
Was he unaware of the odds stacked against them? Or did that confidence mean he had already calculated something they couldn’t see?
The traitor’s threats hadn’t so much as dented Jamie’s composure. His resolve remained unbending—ironclad.
“What’s really on my mind right now,is how I’m going to punish your ass.”
The traitor’s senses spiked violently. It felt as though an electric pulse had run from the top of his skull down to his spine—like glimpsing his own grave being dug in front of him.
His eyes darted wildly, searching for an impossible escape. He weighed his options, considering whether to beg—but with the atrocities he had committed, forgiveness was a fantasy.
Suddenly—
Another surge of magic entered the perimeter surrounding the city.
Kasa and Jamie felt it instantly.
Their heads snapped toward the right, where the new presence pulsed with formidable density.
“Kasa!”
“Yes, I’ve got it. I’ll secure the perimeter.”
“Lock up this traitor. Work together and keep the others calm.”
Jamie finished the order as he shot out of the building at blinding speed.
Kasa and the remaining scientists rushed into the main hall, where the others waited—because in a matter of seconds, a clash that would change everything was about to erupt.
….
The afternoon sun blazed over the city, ushering in a heavy wave of heat.
On top of a skyscraper rooftop stood Jamie.
He wasn’t meditating like some serene monk; his focus was sharper than that—alert, analytical, reading every shift in his surroundings. The city below hummed with traffic and distant voices, busy but not chaotic.
Then—
A whistling tore through the sky.
An object descended from beyond layers of thick clouds, radiating dense magical frequency. Its form was obscured, but one fact was undeniable:
Its destination was the construction site.
Jamie launched into the air.
With every meter he closed, the shape clarified—an asteroid. A massive chunk of rock engulfed in menacing flames, magic burning at its core.
“No, you don’t.”
He extended his arm, fingers splayed wide, then clenched his fist—grasping at the very air itself with violent intent.
Boom!!!
The meteor exploded in a deafening burst of power, shockwaves scattering clouds in chaotic spirals. His hair whipped violently, torn from its careful arrangement. Fragments of burning rock scattered in all directions before dissolving into ash.
“You’ve really gotten stronger. I’m glad I didn’t come all this way for nothing.”
A rough, familiar voice echoed from his left.
Cain—the Captain of the white Jaguars. The same man who had bullied Jamie and his friends when they first arrived in Midworld—descended from the sky until he hovered at Jamie’s height.
Their eyes locked instantly, psychological warfare beginning before any physical strike.
He looked the same—lean, arrogant—wearing a tight white shirt that revealed his physique, paired with skinny jeans as though this were a casual encounter instead of a battlefield.
“I’ll make you pay for what you did to Sweet Gray, you ugly creature!”
Another presence materialized on Jamie’s right.
Fiona—Captain of the Five Scorpions. The clan Greg once belonged to before Jamie strangled him to death with his own hands years ago.
She wore a fitted red ceremonial uniform, elegant and regal—like a princess stepping out of a gala and into a war.
Two Midworld captains hovered before him, eyes narrowed with unmistakable hostility. Every subtle shift in their posture screamed readiness.
Jamie’s gaze sharpened in response. The scene resembled a wild west standoff—only this one unfolded midair, and it was two against one.
“Wait… who are you guys?”
“Aaah, you seriously don’t remember us?” Cain’s forehead creased with fury as he shouted.
Jamie nodded slowly, genuinely confused.
“Don’t worry,” Cain sneered, slamming his fist into his palm. “I’ll beat myself into your memory.”
He grinned, baring sharp, pointed canines.
Then—
Cain lifted his arms slightly, adopting a focused stance reminiscent of an anime fighter charging power. Fiona shifted as well, though instead of an exaggerated pose, she pressed her fingers lightly to her chin—deceptively demure.
A massive surge of magic spilled from both of them, spreading like dense mist across the sky. Invisible to the naked eye— even to magical sight—yet Jamie felt every thread of it. It brushed his legs, coiled around his torso, saturating the air that would become their battlefield.
They have Strong magic,I’ll give them that. You don’t become a clan captain without power.
But something’s off… Their magic isn’t just expanding—it’s clinging to me. Almost like it’s searching for contact.
Ah. I see.
These two are combat-based fighters.
Sttst!!
Fiona vanished from sight.
Cain remained in front of him, smiling calmly.
Huh… where is she?
“Too slow.”
She reappeared behind him, her movement near instantaneous, launching a devastating kick aimed squarely at his back.
Fuuu—
Jamie bent his upper body foward instinctively, pure reflex compressing time into a millisecond.
Sttstst—
Cain appeared in front of him at that exact moment.
But Jamie was already mid-bend from Fiona’s strike.
His field of vision narrowed to one horrifying detail—
Cain’s fist, rocketing upward from below, timed perfectly to collide with Jamie’s descent.
Shit. They planned this.
He stood at a crossroads in a fraction of a heartbeat: rise and take Fiona’s kick, or continue downward and eat Cain’s punch.
Both strikes were lethal.
And both were arriving.
Then—
A memory surfaced.
Training with Castor.
His body bruised and battered. Breath ragged. Vision dimming as sweat drenched him. He could barely stand.
“You failed again… kid!” Castor barked, voice distorted by Jamie’s labored breathing.
“Let me tell you the truth. You’re weak. And your body can’t hold up. That’s the worst combination you can bring into a fight.”
Jamie had lowered his head then, shame heavy in his chest. He had pushed himself to the brink, and still it wasn’t enough.
“So it’s up to you,” Castor continued, “to let that weakness define you… or improve it until you become unstoppable.”
Jamie had lifted his head.
Something ignited inside him that day.
He chose growth.
“Kasa. Have you secured all the demons?” Jamie asked mentally, linking their consciousness.
“Yes. Everything’s locked in.”
“Great… finally.”
A smirk curved across his lips—even as two attacks closed in on him from opposite directions.

“Scatter.”
