Chapter 93: The Chosen Four
The air in the room tightened—no one replied, only surprised gazes fixed on Brains as he stood before them, pitching the somewhat strange idea.
Everyone was puzzled by what they had just heard. Even if they passed through the portal and finally reached the other side into ASTRO, they had no information about what they would land in. If luck wasn’t on their side, they might even fall into a highly populated city like Midworld, where demon security would react instantly—especially if the intruders landed right in their base.
And even if, somehow, they managed not to get spotted, transporting all of Midworld—including its infrastructure and everyone in it—was something that didn’t sit right. It would force all Midworld participants into the battle, something the goddess had promised would be voluntary.
“Don’t worry the goddess has already approved the idea, and the best part ,,,she already choose who goes.”
Brains interjected into everyone’s concentrated silence, snapping the threads of thought hanging in their minds.
That point didn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Recently, the goddess had done many questionable things—all in the name of ensuring victory against the demons. A fight she herself hadn’t shown up for since the third game, despite being the one sending them into it.
“Don’t waste our time brains, tell us the names then let’s get ready to blow up some demon brains.”
Fiona shouted again, more psyched than anyone else in the room, standing out against the neutral expressions around her.
“HAHAHA, Fiona, urgent as ever,, the list is as follows, Cuddle the overseer, Fiona captain of the Five Scorpions, Blu captain of the Blue Jaguars and at last….. cool.joe of the Grid Lions”
“Huh!!, your selecting cool Joe”
The Blue Jaguars’ captain cut in, like a politician interrupting in the middle of parliament.
Cool Joe—the laid-back guy who brought Pascal and Sandra to the Grid Lions base. Always with a lollipop in his mouth and an “I don’t care” attitude.
“Cool Joe doesn’t do anything, I once teamed up with him in Midgard dude wouldn’t do shit unless the blade is aimed at his throat”
Everyone’s eyes shifted toward him. If he was the goddess’s choice, it was a wonder he even bothered showing up.
Brains smiled with amusement, an unexpected reaction for someone who had just been cut off like that.
“So who do you have in mind”
The captain’s morale screeched to a halt—like tires grinding against asphalt, leaving dark marks across his thoughts. He only wanted to deny it, but no alternative came to mind.
A wave of silence stretched, heavy and suffocating, as everyone waited for an answer the speaker himself didn’t have.
“I have an idea of a candidate”
Alexander broke the silence, saving the captain from being crushed under it.
Attention snapped to him instantly.
“As some of you may already know, an attempt on my life was recently foiled, and the person behind it has been successfully detained and is under our custody… but I must make this clear—his determination to fight for Midworld is still solid. That’s why I have a proposition for you”
He leaned forward, raising his hand, counting on his fingers as he spoke.
“Firstly I know you’re all smart and know that there is an 80% chance that some of you will die. Secondly I know that the mission will be accomplished. That’s why instead of letting the traitor suffer, what if we make him go on this journey. He is still skilled and could really help you alot”
Alexander finished, like a man trying to close a deal he had chased for years.
Whether he spoke out of pity for Pascal or was simply sending him to an early grave—it didn’t matter.
Because somehow, even without words, they all agreed.
The idea made sense.
Rejecting it felt like the wrong move.
Suddenly, Brains shifted the direction of the conversation entirely.
“Don’t get me wrong your idea is spot on, but their is alittle problem with it, Pascal eny is no longer in your custody, the goddess got a living unto him and too him away”
The goddess took a living on him… this wasn’t good. What was she planning?
Alexander sank into thought. Then it clicked.
Back when he had finished his fight with Pascal, the man had looked up—like he was speaking to someone unseen. And despite knowing Alexander was more experienced, he had shown no fear.
The idea that the goddess was involved… wasn’t far-fetched at all.
“Now that we have this all over with, everyone should go and prepare. We leave in 20 minutes”
Brains dismissed them, setting the next phase into motion.
The beginning of what was to come.
….. ….. ….. . . . . .. . …. . . . .. .. . . . . . .
Four of the selected fighters stood atop the Grid Lions HQ, alongside Brains, Alexander, the other six overseers, and Eva of the Five Scorpions—who had temporarily taken control of the clan in Fiona’s absence.
Unlike the meeting, they were now dressed in royal-looking attire—deep red with sharp stripes. It sounded like it would clash, like some kind of festive mess, but instead… it made them look deadlier than ever.
The wind tore across the rooftop, whipping their clothes, adding a cinematic weight to the moment.
High above them, the portal hung open, wide and unstable. Engineers moved around it, making sure it stayed active and stable.
“Everyone get these”
Brains handed out four medium-sized silver devices—tall, cylindrical, like metal pipes the size of two-liter bottles. They gleamed under the sunlight, reflecting sharp flashes with every slight movement.
“So these small things are the teleporting thingies that will bring down all of Midworld”
“Yes, they will stretch tall once activated, just drill them into the ground then put your fingerprint ontop of them,,, in that moment they will connect to the other devices and if they are connected as well”
The explanation was simple—so straightforward even the dullest mind could grasp it.
Fiona looked up at the portal, then back at Eva.
“For Greg”
Eva nodded.
“For Greg”
Their exchange carried weight—revenge, loss, something deeper. Everyone could feel it in the way they spoke.
Alexander’s eyes flickered.
Greg… had once been his friend.
They had history.
“Alirght men, let’s Go”
They rose into the air and moved toward the portal. Below them, the crowd erupted into cheers, voices echoing like a storm breaking loose.
And the moment the four stepped into the portal—
The noise exploded, louder, wilder, like midworld itself was shaking.
..….
The World of the living
New HQ(A n abandoned school)
Jamie’s eyes slowly stirred awake. With every blink, his vision cleared more, adjusting to the bulb’s light on the white ceiling until he fully awoke.
He was in a small room that only had a metal bed to its name. Its door was closed shut, probably to avoid interrupting his much-needed sleep.
At first, he lay on the bed motionless, like we all do after a tough day that pushes us to the limit—just a step away from breaking. His breathing was steady as always, but that didn’t stop him from taking deep breaths now and then, a technique his father once taught him to keep his composure.
For a brief second, one would think he was about to relax—you know, take off his jacket and stretch into the comfort of the bed—but then the memories came rushing back into his mind like a late employee on a busy workday. The last thing he remembered was Kasa announcing to the other demons that Jamie wouldn’t make a speech. Anything after that was just a blur.
After some muscle contractions, he pushed himself up on the bed, a sting of pain rising up his spine as he moved—like he had just run a marathon around the entire earth.
His eyes twitched, blinking repeatedly as he stood up and slowly walked out of the room.
The moment he opened the door, he was hit by a strong wave of aroma that filled the corridor stretching ahead.
There was no doubt about it—someone was cooking meat.
