Chapter 82: One Tap
[Commencing teleportation to the construction site]
Lights sparked in midair, Alexander materializing inside the hall of the construction site. Unlike a few minutes ago, it was completely abandoned—the teleportation device gone, leaving no trace that people had been there, except for Alexander’s uncle’s body lying dormant on the floor. Both his eyes were closed shut, sealed together.
Finally Alexander arrived, coming from Midworld. A few minutes ago he had been told that his uncle was beaten up. He didn’t waste time asking anything else—only requesting that Medusaa teleport him to where he was. Luckily, his request had already been approved.
He rushed to where his uncle had fallen.
He stared at him quietly. On Ron’s face, the glowing presence of overwhelming power had vanished, repressed by a sympathetic stillness that made anyone who knew him feel sorry for him.
Alexander knelt near him, then held his uncle’s right arm tightly—like a relative gripping the hand of a patient lying on a hospital bed with no hope of waking up soon.
And somehow, this was the case.
“Medusaa?”
[Yes.]
“Who found him?”
“It was Fiona, sir. The captain of the Five Scorpions.”
Alexander’s face twitched slightly, more confusion than anything else. How would a captain be in the world of the living? He had never been informed of the operation the captains had taken there, so it was no wonder he asked.
[She was on an operation with Captain Ro to eliminate Jamie. He had been gone for a long time, so she became concerned. After following his path, she arrived here only to see the captain lying on the floor. She reported the development and went searching for Jamie.]
Alexander looked down for a moment—not with sadness, but with quiet acknowledgment.
“So Jamie was here, huh. He did this to him.”
[Not exactly. According to Captain Fiona’s report, there were traces of Sandra Bolivar’s protection technique around his body. It seems like she was trying to protect his life when Jamie kidnapped her.]
“Wow. I’m impressed.”
He stood up calmly, like a detective rising after examining a corpse.
“He’s making me look lazy… I want you to heighten every demon element or DNA in this hall. That will make the path they took easy to track.”
[Alright, sir.]
A shining light emerged from beneath the floor, illuminating the footprints on the ground—fingerprints on the walls, even the faintest residue left behind. Everything created by a demon was heightened to its peak, the bright glow exposing every trace.
“They’re good. They left nothing for us to use. Frag them.”
Alexander frowned slightly. There were footprints—but somehow they led nowhere, as if someone had walked a few centimeters and then taken flight.
And you couldn’t trace footprints that , you can’t find any footprints in the air.
Suddenly—
CRUSH!!!
Hundreds upon hundreds of genkis rushed into the site. Some flew, others ran, but they all shared one thing in common—tongues hanging out like dogs that had finally caught the scent of a long-awaited meal.
[The demon scent called them.]
Medusaa pointed.
“Well, at least something did its job. Even though they failed where they were needed most. I’m actually disappointed.”
Alexander raised his hand, pinching his forefinger against his thumb.
He concentrated, forming a small ball of energy between the two fingers. It was smaller than a marble; if not for the glowing cinematic shimmer around it, it would have been easy to miss.
[What are you planning to do, sir?]
She asked as a whistling sound came from the little sphere, intensifying with every passing second—signifying it was nowhere near stable.
“Kill them. Isn’t it obvious? I don’t accommodate failure.”
Boom!!!
A massive surge of energy exploded from the tiny bulb. Every genki that came into contact with it—even for a moment—was violently reduced to ash, erased from reality in an instant.
All the genkis surrounding the site were killed at once. Even the ones across the city rushing toward the construction site—toward Alexander—were wiped out as well.
In his view, it was the suitable punishment for the sin they had committed.
“Take him away.”
He looked at his uncle again, care filling his eyes as the body began turning into particles before disappearing from the ground.
Captain Ron had cared for him ever since Alexander entered Midworld, even though they had no real connection beyond blood. A kind of kindness that could never be repaid—especially since he kept showing it even in a place where relationships were forged against survival itself.
And to reinforce that bond—the fat elf, the former adviser to his uncle, had threatened him earlier. The man knew the truth: that Alexander had killed his parents, Captain Ron’s brother.
Yet he had kept the secret for four years.
That alone left no room for anything to break the fragile trust between them.
[Should I begin the transfer back to Midworld?]
“Wait first. I want to visit a friend of mine.”
He slid his hands into his pockets, looking casual as he exited the construction site.
….
Alexander now stood on top of a skyscraper. It appeared to house a telecommunications company, judging by the many towers rising from its roof.
But he hadn’t chosen the place randomly.
It was the perfect vantage point for what he was observing.
A building stood across the city—vintage in design, unmistakably governmental. The bold words across the front confirmed it:
THE GOVERNOR’S OFFICE.
Suddenly Alexander’s eyes glowed green.
At the same time, they became something like X-rays, granting him the ability to see inside the building.
Security forces filled the structure. It had three floors, and the planner’s architecture seemed well suited for its purpose.
Not much was happening.
On the lowest floor, a man was mopping the floor while a rich-looking official casually stepped over the section he had just cleaned.
On an office on the second floor, two people were having sex. The woman sat on the table while the man lifted her up and down with his body—a mating ritual that had allowed humanity to survive for centuries.
But on the highest floor was what he came to see.
Bray.
His body was drenched in sweat as he worked through calculations on paper. Something about a new road being constructed in another part of the city.
Alexander showed no emotion.
He was the one who had brought Bray here—yet his face remained blank.
Suddenly—
Ring. Ring.
A dialog box appeared.
[News from the Investigative Department]
[All fighters are to return to Midworld. The team has successfully located ASTRO — the demons’ planet.]
The very planet that held the last forces of the demons in the war—and housed every demon they had sent away from Earth.
