Chapter 87: Genki’s Champion
…..
The squad had now moved into what seemed like a hidden chamber inside the cave. The air inside was damp and heavy, the walls breathing out a cold moisture that clung faintly to the skin. On the roof of the cave were scattered wet spots that the chief said acted like doors to different parts of Earth. He had created them himself with his technique that formed sand-like portals, but to create one, he needed to connect the locations first.
“We jump over there”
He pointed at a spot where the wetness had frozen solid, a thin layer of frost spreading across it. It was a clear sign of the brutal conditions waiting for them ahead.
They teleported out of the cave one by one, their bodies phasing through the portal and reappearing high above the world, landing straight on Mount Everest. A violent gust of icy wind greeted them instantly, slicing through their clothes and carrying with it the sharp bite of the mountain’s peak. The ground beneath their feet was a frozen, endless white stretching into the horizon.
The champion stood within their view, not too far away from them.
His upper half had a human-like form, except for a third eye that glowed with dark magic. His lower half carried the powerful physique of a bull, muscles tightly packed and grounded into the snow, yet he stood upright on two legs like the chief.
Anyone who saw him would understand instantly why he had been chosen as the Genki champion—the sheer pressure of magic radiating from his body distorted the air around him, heavy and suffocating, enough to silence doubt before it could even form.
Luckily, the champion had noticed them too. He rose slowly like a hunter spotting prey he had waited months for, his gaze locking onto them with quiet intensity.
“So how does this work?”
Jamie inquired, his voice carrying a slight impatience, eager to get the process over with.
“I have to initiate the combat, after which you two will fight. The first to get killed, surrender, or stay on the ground for 10 seconds loses.”
“If I beat him, he can stop all the mind controlling?”
“Yes, the pact the goddess made with him will have been broken.”
“Alright, let’s go then”
Jamie leaped forward, his feet crunching against the frozen surface as he moved toward Zuba.
“But sir, a word of advice, be careful, he has a set of destructive techniques up his sleeve”
“Don’t worry about that, focus on initiating the fight”
Jamie smiled back at the chief; this was the first time in a while he had smiled, a calm confidence settling across his face.
The chief looked down, sorrow passing through his expression, before raising his head again and screaming toward Zuba, his hands stretched wide to the sides. Kasa and Sandra stood behind him, their attention fixed on Jamie, who now stood only a few steps away from the champion.
The chief’s eyes began to glow, a deep light building within them as he prepared to start the initiation.
“Zuba the genki champion under the goddesses rule, do you accept Jamie noter the champion of demons as your opponent?”
His voice thundered across the mountain, amplified by the surrounding magic, echoing against the icy cliffs.
Ding!!!!
A loud metallic sound echoed from Zuba’s chest, resonating through the air like a heartbeat given form, as if his very being had accepted the challenge.
“Now the battle can begin”
At that very second, a massive circle of magic unfolded across the sky, spreading wide above them like an alien craft descending upon the world. The circles turning spinning at haste.
But the circle wasn’t just for show—it sealed the battlefield completely. If anyone dared to interfere, even slightly, a violent current of thunder from the universe itself would strike them down without hesitation.
That was how sacred this fight was.
“I am afraid I might’ve just sent a young man to his own grave”
The chief whispered lightly to Sandra and Kasa behind him, his voice low, almost breaking, like a father who had just sent his child into a battle he knew he might not survive.
Kasa studied the chief’s worried face. The old man looked as if he were the one about to fight.
“I understand your concerns, but I think that’s the more reason for you to watch this fight”
“I really want to believe that, but I can’t even sense magic from him?”
“Huh!!!”
They uttered in unison.
“He forgot to turn off the seal to his magic”
Sandra shouted, her eyes widening in realization. They had suppressed their magical presence so the Genki wouldn’t detect them with Kasa, and somehow Jamie had forgotten to release his.
That was why the chief thought he wouldn’t win.
Boom!!
Rooar!!
A violent surge of power erupted from Zuba, exploding outward in waves. The snow around him was blown apart instantly, lifted into the air before being crushed back down. The mountain itself groaned under the pressure, cracks spreading across its frozen surface. Jamie’s hair whipped violently as the force slammed into him.
The waves of magic pulsed again and again from the champion, each one heavier than the last.
On the other side stood his opponent.
“So Alexander defeated you 20 seconds huh, this is an indirect contest, I am being forced to perform better than him”
Jamie narrowed his eyes as he raised his forefinger toward the sky, electricity gathering rapidly, crackling and snapping around it.
I just realized something… this will be the first time in a while I am the first to attack. Feels so weird.
Suddenly, his eyes turned yellow, glowing faintly beneath the storm of energy as his body became completely engulfed in golden light. The energy didn’t just surround him—it pressed outward, forcing the air itself to tremble.
At the same moment, the mountain began to vibrate. Deep cracks formed beneath the surface, spreading like veins through stone.
Zuba stood still, his composure unshaken, watching.
“Huh, what’s happening?”
The chief asked, fear slipping into his voice. He could feel it instantly—this wasn’t an earthquake.
It was power.
And it wasn’t coming from Zuba.
It was coming from Jamie.
“Let me try out this move”
[Kinetic bomb]
A small spark flickered into existence on Jamie’s forefinger. At first, it was unstable, barely holding its shape, but within a fraction of a second, it began to compress, forming into a small sphere of dense energy.
It was still small.
But the pressure inside it felt wrong.
Heavy.
The champion remained still, breathing slowly like a beast in the wild.
“I wouldn’t have just stood there if I was you”
Jamie warned him, but the champion didn’t react.
He didn’t move.
“Alright, I already told you then, don’t blame me for what happens next”
Swwosh!!!
Jamie burst forward, his body cutting through the air with speed. Zuba tracked his movements carefully, but something unusual began to happen.
With every step Jamie took, the sphere on his finger expanded.
Growing.
Densifying.
Its presence becoming harder to ignore.
“Incredible, what kind of a technique is that?”
The chief muttered, a faint excitement mixing with his shock.
“Mhm”
Zuba finally reacted, raising his arms and slamming them together, forming a solid guard to withstand the incoming attack.
Suddenly—
Woop!
Jamie leaped over him in a single motion, landing behind the champion with precision.
“Huh!!”
The spectators shouted in unison, caught off guard by the sudden shift.
But Jamie didn’t hesitate.
He turned sharply, facing Zuba’s back, and released the Kinetic Bomb.
In a flash, the sphere shot forward like a beam of condensed light, tearing through the air before slamming directly into the champion.
The impact exploded outward.
Zuba was sent flying, his massive body crashing violently into the frozen ground, the force carving into the mountain beneath him.
Then—
Silence.
He didn’t move.
Seconds passed.
Until the full ten seconds were over.
The magic circle above shattered away, fading into nothing, and Zuba’s third eye cleared completely, the dark energy draining from it.
Jamie stared for a moment, slightly surprised at how quickly it had ended, but he didn’t dwell on it.
Suddenly—
Ring ring
Kasa’s phone vibrated in his pocket. He pulled it out and answered.
“Hello”
“Yes Kasa, I wanted to inform you that we have allocated the path to Midworld”
“That’s nice”
“But there has been a development recently?”
“What?”
“All of the goddess’s forces in all universes have been called back to her bases”
Kasa’s eyes widened, fear flashing across his face.
Those words alone confirmed the one thing they had hoped not to hear.
The goddess’s plans were already in motion.
And they were behind.
