The house was built in the traditional Crestfall style, with a main hall, two rooms on both the east and west sides, a smaller adjoining room, and two more wing rooms in the courtyard.

The main hall housed ancestral tablets. Above the tablets hung a grand central scroll painting, and next to them was a simple, elegant table made of huanghuali wood.

Nathaniel led her directly up to his room on the second floor. His room was sizable and unlike any she had ever seen.

There were antique, carved bookshelves, exquisite ornaments, and several paintings and works of calligraphy on the walls. On the shelves lining the opposite wall, modern professional books were neatly arranged. There were books on military affairs, politics, firearms, and weaponry—he had it all.

She took a quick glance around. His room was mostly filled with books, a collection vast enough to rival a small library.

She pulled a book from the shelf at random and glanced inside. It was filled with all sorts of annotations and personal reflections. She had been using his books lately, so she was quite familiar with his handwriting.

Nathaniel let her browse while he personally brewed a pot of tea. Soon, the fragrance of tea filled the room.

Vera had always known Nathaniel was exceptional, but she never realized he’d grown up in such a cultured environment. He himself was clearly a man of immense knowledge and taste.

In her past life, she had only seen his cold, domineering side. She knew so little about this part of him.

He handed her a cup of tea. “Interested in all this?”

Vera looked at him and said, “Nathaniel, I’m realizing I never really knew you at all.”

Nathaniel’s gaze slowly settled on her. “Well, I’m right here now. You’re free to get to know me. If there’s anything you want to know, just ask. Of course, if you want to get to know my body, I can cooperate by taking off my clothes.”

PFFT! Vera sprayed out the mouthful of tea she had just taken.
