Chapter 194: A Messenger And A Prince
In Uldor’s abyssal prison, a figure stood in front of a chained individual and a man sitting on a bed in a giant cell with a large entrance.
Ting!
Three rusty plates fell on the floor, containing a green, slimy liquid from an abyssal plant and a pink bread-like object, neither of which could be called real food.
“As usual, two of them are yours, the third for the lunatic prisoner. Get to your feet quickly and give it to him.” The one who dropped the plates, a male giant, said in a commanding tone, though a hint of joy and pride could be sensed within his voice.
Next, he used a glowing key to unlock the shackles that were pinning the chained figure to the wall.
“The path is clear for you. You have 20 minutes to feed the lunatic before returning to your cell. If you spend even a single minute more than allowed or show any suspicious movements, a severe punishment will be applied to you.”
“And trust me, more work and less food and some whipping is the least possible punishment here, so not obeying isn’t wise. But you already know that, don’t you, Kael?”
Without waiting for a response from the second person, he left immediately.
“That’s stupid…” The chained figure, whose name was Kael, gritted his teeth and murmured: “Someday… someday I’ll crush your heads and cut your throats with my teeth. If not for that childish man… if not for this collar!”
Clenching his fist, he punched the wall and cursed his own ancestors, but there was no one to respond to him.
He was left alone, completely unchained, no guards watching him, yet no one was concerned about him.
They knew he would eventually obey, they knew he couldn’t harm anyone or escape, and they knew he was completely powerless even when unchained.
Kael had the height of a normal human, but he had grey metallic skin that showed that he either had a trait that caused this appearance or it was due to being from a different race.
He had deep black eyes that sparkled with anger and hatred, and his brown hair cascaded down his shoulders, reaching his feet, showing he had stopped caring about its length.
He wore only simple shorts that only covered his lower sensitive parts, which revealed his refined figure that wasn’t affected by the bad condition of the food and how he was treated for so long.
However, there were two notable things about him.
The first was his veins, which were clearly visible under his skin and glowed with a faint green light.
As for the second, and the most concerning, was a metallic collar that was firmly closed around his neck. The collar was enchanted with complex structures of different colourful runes, and seemed active.
The collar had a little hole on one side, which was big enough only for a thin needle to enter, and there was a gauge in the middle of the collar.
The gauge had a red color on the right, green on the left, and yellow in the middle. As for the needle of the gauge, it was positioned in the yellow area but leaning toward green.
That device, the collar, was what Kael hated the most.
“I’m a master, and I can’t even break a simple wall because of a stupid collar!” Kael roared and punched the wall again, leaving a small hole that was repaired on its own almost instantly.
His strength was intense, able to crush a building from modern Earth and even break a wall of steel, but that was so weak if compared to the strength of a master.
And the reason was the collar, which was suppressing his strength significantly.
Not only his strength, it also prevented him from using his mana and spiritual energy. It meant that it was capable of accessing a person’s whole body despite being on the neck, a person’s mana pool that was located in their Core of Existence, and even their souls that produced spiritual energy.
If that wasn’t enough to show how advanced and powerful the collar was, it also prevented the activation of all active trait and class abilities, and suppressed most of the passive ones!
Basically, Kael was just a normal human with super strength and maybe some passive abilities while wearing that collar.
Of course, such an artifact was something that could cause chaos across Terra. It could be used to capture masters and enslave some of them, forcefully weakening enemies, and creating prisons that didn’t care about strength.
In Terra, if someone was neither containable nor could be enslaved, they’d be executed.
And this collar was the solution to this. Obviously, Uldor didn’t share the existence of this collar and used it only in the Abyss.
As Kael was cursing the collar, a man suddenly crouched in front of him and lifted up a plate.
“Man, can’t you stop complaining every single day? You’re giving me a headache!” The man sighed: “Just follow me and let’s finish this disgusting job. I’m as furious as you, but we can’t do anything, can we? If I could, I would have killed your king myself for what he did to me.”
Kael growled in response like a barbarian, but he accepted the man’s words: “Grrr, fine. And give me the plate, Braham, I’ll feed that bastard myself.”
Braham handed Kael the plate with a smile: “Sure. As my wife says, when it comes to physical work, the strong man with no high intelligence should be taking the lead.”
Kael was about to curse but noticed something: “So… she basically said that you’re stupid and forced you to do the hard work?”
Braham’s smile widened: “I never denied it. But I love her regardless, so it’s okay.”
“Anyway, stop wasting time and go!”
“Yes, yes.”
Braham and Kael left the cell and began walking in the corridor.
However, whenever prisoners in a cell saw them, they started talking.
“Oh, Braham! How are you, man!”
“I’m great! Just the feeling of slowly dying from the inside, you know, the usual thing.”
“That man Kael is more dangerous than the Abyss, don’t let him bite you again!”
“Haha, don’t worry, I learnt my lesson.”
“Were you chosen this time? Good luck!”
“Thank you, Varoth.”
“I’LL EAT YOU ALIVE!”
“Ah… sure? Good luck regarding that. I’ll be waiting.”
As Braham kept engaging with the prisoners—which wasn’t always friendly—Kael couldn’t help but remember Braham’s identity.
Braham was a handsome man, unlike Kael who looked barbarian, with long golden hair and a pair of eyes with the same color. His skin was fair, and his body was lean with little muscles, which showed that he was affected by the prison, unlike Kael.
Not to mention, he also has the very same green veins, but they were glowing more intensely than Kael’s.
And according to him, he was just a humble messenger from the Holy Kingdom, a master who was sent to Uldor to see why they wanted war and hopefully find a path to peace.
And what happened to him?
He became the first hostage!
Valor asked for only one thing, and it was the Crown of Existence.
Braham simply said that Zaragoza wasn’t willing to accept this.
As a response, Valor captured Braham to show his seriousness about the Crown of Existence.
Kael had been in prison before the war started, so he didn’t know about it. Braham was the one who told him about it, which was a non reliable source, especially when he was supposed to be from the kingdom that was fighting Uldor.
His story showed Uldor as the absolute wrong side, making the Holy Kingdom look like victims. Kael had no method to detect lies in this prison, so he couldn’t trust Braham or dismiss his claims.
But what he said about Valor made his story more believable.
“He declared war while on vacation! He met me with the clothes of his vacation and pretended that he couldn’t hear or see me from a far distance. After telling him my king’s message, he immediately asked me if I was hungry.”
“He congratulated me for being the first hostage, forced me to eat and drink with him like old friends until I was full, and threw me into this cursed place with a smile!”
“Kael, your father is a sick bastard and you can’t change my mind! How did he become a king? No, how is he even married? What poor soul was forced to marry a titan with no brain? Urgh, I hate him more than I hate my former job!”
Remembering that, Kael couldn’t help but smirk: ’Yes, everything looks like him. It’s definitely Valor.’
After arriving here, Braham did his best to have a good relationship with every single prisoner here, no matter what their crimes were.
A lot of his attempts failed, but most of them succeeded. That highlighted his identity as a messenger who knew how to use his tongue instead of his fist.
After a minute of walking, Kael and Braham arrived before five cells that were at the end of the corridor and bigger than all the others.
They had more guards than their own cell, even more advanced runes on the entrances.
Those cells were where the most dangerous prisoners were kept.
They either had unconfirmed capabilities, enough physical power to cause trouble even when suppressed, or even some strange abilities that couldn’t be underestimated.
And one of them was their destination. Its gate was wide open, and for some reason, the guards kept a long distance from the cell.
“Heh, pathetic cowards.” Kael remarked mockingly and kept raising and lowering his eyebrows provocatively as he entered the cell.
Braham gave them an apologetic smile and followed him closely, not letting his guard down.
He didn’t know the exact details, but he, and even Kael, understood that the prisoners here didn’t have such cells for without a reason. They were all unique in their own ways.
And the one they were about to meet was the most special among them.
After all, he was the only Rank 2 prisoner who got a special cell.
