Chapter 195: The Curse Of Being Handsome
Chickle! Chickle!
At the end of the cell, Kael and Braham stood in front of a young man.
He was wearing the same collar, but his whole body was chained.
The chains weren’t normal like the ones that were wrapped around Kael’s body in his cell, they were enchanted and made of strong materials.
In addition to them, four spears pierced his limbs, ensuring that he’d stay pinned to the wall.
Finally, his face.
He had neck-length black hair, which should have been longer, considering he had been there for months.
His abyssal-black eyes gazed upon Braham and Kael with amusement, but he didn’t move.
And that was because of the mask covering his face.
“Oh, that’s new. It wasn’t there last time we gave you food, Dante.” Kael laughed, looking at the mask that covered Dante’s face.
Or to be precise, it looked more like a torture device.
The mask was made of steel and covered his face in two pieces.
The top piece was bolted to the bone of his brow and cheeks. Spikes grew from the inside, going through his cheeks and keeping them still.
This prevented his muscles from moving, making even the simple act of smiling a dangerous process.
The bottom piece held his jaw and chin. It hung at the sides, and if closed, his lips would press together. The bottom lip rested on small hooks.
It was a sight of extreme horror, yet the boy, Dante, was unfazed by it. He was rather relaxed, knowing that a single move wouldn’t kill, but would be painful.
Kael went closer to him and crouched with the plate: “How am I supposed to feed you like this? What did you even do to turn into this? Did you kill someone with your face or something? Wait, haha! You can’t even talk, right?”
Braham was starting to feel annoyed at Kael’s mockery, so he stepped forward and took a straw from the plate: “There is a straw here. I think we should feed him everything as liquid this time. Smash the bread and mix it with the slimy liquid, and stop making fun of the kid.”
Kael rolled his eyes: “Braham, you’re boring. Boriiing!”
“Sure, sure.”
“Tsk.”
Braham sighed and brought the straw to Dante’s mouth through the little mouth opening that was allowed by the mask: “This place is really fucked up. You’re just a kid for heaven’s sake!”
Using the straw, Kael and Braham slowly poured the liquid, which took several minutes.
Eventually, they took the straw out of Dante’s mouth, finishing their job of feeding him.
“Thank… you…”
After turning around, Dante suddenly opened his mouth and spoke. When they looked at him, they saw his face bleeding.
The mask was made to prevent him from making any facial movement… but that was the case if he followed the normal human instinct of stopping at the sense of pain.
But he didn’t.
He forced himself to talk, he ignored the pain, he ignored the blood, and he didn’t give a shit about the wounds.
His lips curled into a smile, which turned into a monstrous one when his face was torn.
“You were… Kael and Braham, right?”
“Kael, you are close, I almost killed someone with my face. The three remaining brain cells that you’re taking care of are working.”
Kael and Braham’s eyes widened, then Kael laughed: “Hahaha! It’s been a month since we met, yet you still have that sharp tongue. I’m really interested in hearing your story, but would you be okay with this? This looks painful, brat.”
Dante’s face healed gradually, but he didn’t wait for the healing process and began explaining in a sweet, yet chilling voice: “I was so handsome that a female prisoner couldn’t resist and attempted to free me. They investigated me again and found out that my handsomeness is really effective, even though it doesn’t show in my runes.”
“And after some tests, they came to the conclusion that stopping me from using my face to its full potential by tearing it with every movement was the best counter. Just like this, this mask was born.”
Sighing deeply, Dante added: “I just smiled at her and she turned crazy. Is it my fault that I’m extremely handsome? If it was a magical ability, they’d have found about it in my runes, right? That’s common sense.”
Kael rubbed his chin and nodded: “Yeah, I know how it feels to be handsome. Brat, we have been cursed since our birth with our faces, and no one is going to believe us. We should embrace the curse and make good use of it!”
Dante smiled: “Haha, I knew you’d understand—”
“Dante, please stop!” Braham’s eyes twitched as he shouted, panicked: “Your face is turning into a mess of blood! Stop harming yourself because of this bastard!”
Dante was about to open his mouth, but Braham did it faster: “You know what, never mind. We’ll be punished if we stay here any longer. See you later, and I hope your mask gets removed.”
After finishing, he grabbed Kael’s hand and dragged him outside the cell. The moment they left, the gate of the cell closed on its own.
“See you soon, I guess.” Kael sighed and waved to the gate before leaving.
Once he returned to his cell alongside Braham, they finally turned their gazes toward their food.
“Oh, this one is mine, hehehe.” Braham laughed and took the pink bread from Kael’s plate, immediately putting it into his mouth: “I won the bet, and I’ll take your bread for a week. I need to rebuild my muscles.”
“You bitch, it isn’t confirmed!” Kael protested: “The bet is about proving that the boy has a magical ability related to his face. Putting a mask on his face doesn’t confirm it!”
Braham took another bite from the bread: “Are you lying to yourself now? He has a lot of things that we can’t explain. The face ability is the most obvious one, and the fact that it actually seduced a woman to the point of turning her crazy proves my theory.*
“Kael,” Braham raised a finger and asked: “From what I heard, his strength increases once a month. These sudden increases break the suppression balance of the collar, forcing the giants to reactivate the collar monthly and making him extremely dangerous. Tell me, is there anything they’ve found that explains this?”
Kael shook his head.
Braham raised a second finger: “What about the fact that he isn’t affected by the radiation as much as us? Is there any trait we’re told about that causes this?”
Kael coughed awkwardly: “N-no…”
Braham smirked and raised a third finger: “Can you explain why after a month of coming here, he suddenly stopped needing to relieve himself? What they found was just that his body was absorbing whatever he ate completely, leaving no waste. Is there anything explaining this?”
“Okay, I can’t! Fuck you and fuck that weird kid!” Kael raised his middle finger, looking at the bread with intense hatred and jealousy.
Braham leaned back against the wall and sighed: “Yeah, don’t try to make sense of him or the other prisoners in those cells. The guards, the higher-ups, the prisoners, and I are certain that he has an ability related to his face, but nothing we did can confirm it. He’s just left there as an anomaly.”
“And because of that…” Braham’s expression suddenly became extremely serious, getting Kael’s full attention: “Because of that… I technically won the bet! Remember, for a whole week!”
“Fuck you!”
“Bahahaha!”
