Chapter 197: Slapping A Bald Head Is Satisfying
Days passed since Braham and Kael fed Dante, and since then, nothing strange had happened.
Ring! Ring!
The sound of a bell ringing woke Kael and Braham up, welcoming them to a new day.
In the Abyss, they didn’t have a sun to show the morning, and the moons didn’t move to show the passing time.
They didn’t really have the concept of day and night, so they relied on sleeping time to say when to work.
And now, it was time for Kael and Braham to start their shift.
Ting!
Like every day, the guard threw two plates onto the ground and said: “You have 30 minutes to prepare yourself for some mining. Of course, you can eat and go immediately if you want to do extra work. The radiation percentage in your bodies is increasing and you need more points to buy the cure.”
“Grr.” Kael growled as he opened his eyes to the faint light of the cell: “Thank you for your service, you can leave.”
The guard smirked and glanced at the wall chains: “Kael, I really care about your goodwill, so I’ll remind you that being late again or slapping a certain guard for the 17th time will keep you chained for a day after some soft whipping. It’s your choice, of course.”
“And I say you misunderstood my intentions!” Kael straightened his back and argued: “For the first case, I was just tired and slept more than I expected. It wasn’t a rebellion or anything. You aren’t filled with radiation like me, so you don’t understand how tiring it is.”
The guard frowned: “Are you kidding me? Your trait and race make you the healthiest prisoner in the whole—”
Kael cut him off before he could continue: “And for the second case… You won’t understand the temptation of slapping someone’s bald head! It’s satisfying! It’s comforting! It’s joyful! Hell, it feels better than getting drunk after drinking the best wine in the world! You should slap some bald heads to understand.”
“Also…” Kael raised a finger and added: “They have a reflection magic enchanting them! A bald head would reflect the light and send it to you 500 times stronger, and that’s enough to blind you! Slapping a bald head decreases the power of that magic, right, Braham?”
Braham glared at Kael, his look screaming: “DON’T INVOLVE ME!”
But he kept his inner thoughts in his heart and just gave Kael a thumbs up.
The guard narrowed his eyes dangerously, subconsciously touching his own bald head under the helmet.
“I hate you.” Hissing angrily, the guard turned around and left.
“Hahahaha! It’s so easy to provoke this guy.” Kael smiled with satisfaction, showing his white teeth and slapping his own thigh.
“Oh, we have a problem.” Braham narrowed his eyes at the sight of the plates. Following his gaze, Kael’s eyes widened.
“That bitch!”
One of the plates was left on the floor normally, but the second was upside down, spilling the slimy liquid over the floor.
Someone would have to take the good plate, while the other would be forced to drink the liquid from the dirty floor.
Without hesitation, Braham leaped toward the plates and grabbed the normal plate.
“You bastard!” Kael jumped off the bed, but Braham had already brought the edge of the plate to his mouth and tilted it, bringing the liquid down for him to drink.
Once Kael grabbed the plate, it was already empty except for the pink loaf of bread.
“NOOO!” Kael fell to his knees, glancing at the empty plate and the spilled liquid on the floor.
Braham wiped his mouth and smirked mischievously: “You better lick the floor carefully. I want it as clean as a mirror in 5 minutes.”
“I will kill you and that stupid guard someday!” Kael roared and gave up, throwing the plate to Braham and looking at his own plate.
Apparently, it had a small flaw in its design, making it fall upside down when the guard dropped it. That small flaw was the cause of Kael’s current despair.
“What a misfortune.” Kael sighed and lifted the plate up. With no hesitation, he licked the plate before going to the floor, ignoring Braham who was watching him while laughing.
Kael and Braham didn’t really care about a small thing like licking the floor. After everything they had seen throughout their whole lives, even before finding themselves in the Abyss, eating from the floor was nothing.
Actually, the taste of dog shit was better than the food of this world, and that wasn’t even an exaggeration.
The food here was just so bad that feeding it to the poorest person in Terra could be considered torture. Some people would rather die of starvation than eat the pink bread and drink the green liquid.
But Kael and Braham weren’t ready to die. Both of them had their own reasons to survive and leave the Abyss someday.
Regardless, for such food, a dirty floor wasn’t really going to do anything. They were just joking to light the mood.
After Kael finished his meal with tears, he and Braham left their cells and headed toward a staircase, either cursing or greeting the prisoners and guards whom they met on their way.
As they walked up the stairs, Braham couldn’t help but re-examine the place with sharp eyes.
The prison had 6 floors underground, and his cell existed in the fifth one, almost the very bottom of the prison.
It was where the Rank 3 masters with high physical power and some passive abilities were located, alongside 5 special cells for some anomalies.
Going up the fourth floor, it contained less dangerous masters. They either didn’t have strong passive abilities or physical power of both. Less guards protected this area.
However, there were a few Rank 2 there. They were the people who couldn’t be enslaved for various reasons.
The third floor was where the slaves were imprisoned. Most of them were Rank 2, but there were very few masters too. The slavery mark only caused some pain and didn’t fully control them.
This floor was more like a torture facility than a prison. Here, the guards were ordered to break the prisoners’ wills and remove the idea of not following the orders from their minds.
The second floor was the proof of some success. The people there were working on making food for prisoners and the guards.
“Tsk, why can’t they make us some food like them with less points? They already have many!” Kael complained behind Braham.
The food of the prisoners was a strange loaf of bread that tasted like a corrupted sponge and a slimy liquid that was extracted from a green plant and tasted 100 times worse than piss.
But the guards? They were provided with meat, vegetables, fruits, rarely some sweets, and they drank water and wine.
Real water and real wine!
In the Abyss, water was rarer than gold. Having a cup of water was a luxury that the prisoners rarely tasted.
Braham and Kael couldn’t help but lick their lips upon seeing the barrels of cold, clear water.
If they could, they’d exchange their organs for just a few sips.
“Continue moving, we’re… we’re just torturing ourselves!” Braham pushed Kael, his eyes lingering on the water even as he walked.
Reaching the first floor, what met them was an arsenal.
Some weapons, a lot of traps, colorful potions, and even armors.
Additionally, there were thousands of closets, and each one had a name engraved on it.
“Get your items quickly. Don’t sleep in the closet.” Braham said casually and headed toward a closet with his name.
He simply touched a specific rune, then a ray of blue light burst out of it, scanning Braham’s collar.
Ting!
The closet made a soft, mechanical sound and opened, revealing some items that caused Braham to smile.
First was a syringe that contained blue liquid. The needle was so thin, and surprisingly, its size was perfectly suitable for the hole in Braham’s collar.
The second was a full body outfit with a pair of boots. Unfortunately, the outfit was torn with several cuts and burn marks, and one of the boots was almost split in half, barely keeping itself together.
’Haah… I’ll need to buy a new one. This really isn’t good and it’s dangerous, but that’s all I have now.’ Sighing deeply, Braham wore the outfit and the boots, using tape to close the holes and support his boot.
Next, he looked at a face mask and wore it.
It was made of thick, dark rubber. The front had two round glass lenses set into metal rings. Between them, a piece of rubber stuck out like a snout, with a round metal filter attached at the end.
It covered Braham’s entire face and sealed it, yet it allowed him to breathe normally.
In fact, the air he breathed through the mask was cleaner and fresher!
“Ah, I love this mask.” Kael appeared behind him and said: “It’s the only good thing those bastards brought with them.”
Braham shrugged and examined Kael’s figure, seeing that he wore only boots and pants, leaving himself topless.
Additionally, he held two items, one of them was a pickaxe, and the other was a chainsaw.
Yes, a real chainsaw! And it was already covered with blood, showing that it wasn’t used to cut trees.
Braham took a similar pickaxe and a cleaver from his closet before closing it, and said: “Let’s leave, and you should buy something to wear later. You can’t keep exposing yourself like this.”
As Braham went to the staircase again, Kael followed him and stated: “I don’t need to buy anything. My muscles are cool and can block anything!”
“You’ll die because of your arrogance someday.”
“Shut up.”
