Chapter 103: Rebirth
“My lord, here are the intruders that we caught,” the captain said, his right fist was on his chest as he lowered his head to Dhein.
But the king’s attention was fixed on one masked assassin. He knew this versatile suit very well.
The masked assassin and the little dragon were with five other people, they were all kneeling before him, fearing for their lives.
“Rise,” Dhein commanded.
As the captives rose to their feet, Dhein himself got up from his throne and walked down towards them.
And when he got close enough, he gently folded back the hood over the assassin’s head and removed Shina’s mask.
She looked like a child who was holding back her tears. But even in the messed up state she was in, Dhein couldn’t help but admire her beauty.
He had a lot of questions, but for now, he had one thing in mind.
Dhein hugged Shina tightly and she started sobbing on his shoulder. Everyone stared at them with shocked expressions.
“Dhein?” Fiorelle’s voice resounded from the entrance.
They broke the hug and looked at the girl who had just arrived.
“Princess Shina?!” she exclaimed with widening eyes as soon as she saw her.
“Fiorelle! You’re safe, too.”
The blonde girl walked forward, glancing at the people Shina brought with her before turning to Dhein.
He could pretty much surmise what was going on. Shina was the only one who knew about his powerlessness. So when she discovered that he had been teleported to Sekhtar instead of her, she wanted to rescue him.
These five extra people must have been her companions.
Dhein spoke to the berserkers who captured them.
“These people are our guests. I hope you followed my protocol for handling unknown parties.”
The berserkers sincerely nodded.
“We did, my lord. We used minimal force to capture them.”
They turned to Shina and her companions.
“Forgive us if we have mistaken you for intruders.”
Shina’s eyes shifted from the demons to Dhein, her face was full of confusion.
Dhein looked at the five people who were still fearing for their lives.
“I am Dheinyrus Theocheirós, the heir to the Divinity Clan, and the reigning king of Sekhtar. Thank you for helping my fiancee reach me.”
They were all taken aback, their eyes widening.
“FIANCEE?!” they exclaimed.
The hirazan woman muttered to herself:
“So that’s why she was so desperately trying to go here. She even put herself in danger just for you.”
Indeed, the journey must have been very dangerous. Dhein didn’t like the fact that Shina risked her life to try and save him but he had to appreciate her efforts. He couldn’t even get mad at her.
He let out a sigh and then spoke.
“Very well, she and I have to talk. Fiorelle will take care of you while you’re here.”
And with that, the scion of divinity led the princess to his chamber…
***
Dhein closed the door and instructed his servants to leave them alone. It was crucial that no one could see or hear what he and Shina were about to do next.
Shina walked and looked around the room before turning to meet Dhein’s gaze.
“I kept your secret, Dheinyrus,” she said.
He nodded.
“Thank you.”
Shina walked forward, tears welling up in her sapphire eyes.
“I’m so glad you’re safe,” she cried.
Dhein used his thumbs to wipe her tears.
He would have loved to talk and catch up, but there was an impending threat that he had to warn her about.
“Listen, Shina. I have discovered some things here in Sekhtar during the past week.”
Though sniffling, the princess listened.
Dhein told her the lie about the nature of demons that had been spread across the human continents. He also informed her about the things that the oracle said to him.
“You are somehow connected to all of this, Shina. I have been working tirelessly to figure out how, but I can’t see the connection. And right now, Angelus is on his way back to Sekhtar.”
Shina furrowed her eyebrows.
“But we have sealed Angelus to a spiritual prison,” she said.
“Does this mean that he escaped?”
Dhein looked down and then back to her eyes before speaking.
“We need to be ready for anything.”
Their hearts almost skipped a beat when violent knocking resounded from the door.
“Come in!” Dhein shouted.
Krushe opened the door and, with a panicked face, said:
“My lord! There’s something wrong with the oracle!”
The demoness’ gaze landed on Shina for a few seconds, perplexed before returning to Dhein.
He had been waiting for the oracle to give more information. Something like this happening when Shina had just arrived didn’t seem to be coincidental.
He took Shina by the hand and they followed Krushe to the oracle.
And before even entering the room where the oracle was kept, they could already hear her mutterings… of words so ancient that they couldn’t even fathom what they meant.
Krushe opened the door for them.
Taking a deep breath, Dhein stepped forward, holding Shina’s cold hand. And as soon as they entered the dark chamber, the oracle suddenly fell silent.
Then, she said:
“At last.”
Dhein and Shina looked at each other.
“Goddess Oneirah, you have arrived.”
A strange expression suddenly crossed Shina’s face. It was blank yet intense at the same time. Her hands also felt a lot colder all of a sudden.
Dhein looked at the oracle.
“Did you just call her the Goddess Oneirah?”
The oracle was letting out a terrible moan that almost sounded like a hum.
“Angelus is here. Angelus… no… no…”
Dhein felt his heart racing, fear creeping into his entire body.
“Answer my question!” Dhein yelled.
Silence filled the dark chamber for a few moments. Then, the oracle replied.
“Indeed.”
The single eye locked into Shina.
“You do not have any memories, nor the powers. But you are the reincarnation of the Goddess of dreams…”
Shina’s breath was becoming uneven by the second.
“Reborn as a human, you are the one who saved the demonkind and the fallen angels from the wrath of the gods. Thank you for returning, o Goddess Oneirah.”
