Chapter 82: The New King
When he pushed Shina from the range of the teleportation spell’s highlight, Dhein knew where the demons wanted to teleport her. They obviously wanted to bring the princess straight to their base.
So when he was being teleported instead, he braced himself for the worst — only for his luck to act up again.
He was suddenly sitting on an ominous throne. To make things better, two familiar demons who had already been tricked by his fake reputation were present, making it easier for him to deceive the other demons.
Suddenly, he was the king of the demonic continent.
Looking around, the castle of demons was a lot different from what he had imagined. He was expecting to see dark, glossy walls and god-mocking decorations, but it turned out to be quite ordinary. They just used normal materials available to them like cement and stones just like many architectural builds in the human continent.
And with all the knowledge he had been able to acquire in recent days, he was slowly discovering that humans and demons weren’t that much different as well.
They also reacted to him in a similar way humans did. They feared him even without witnessing his real capabilities.
Currently, he was sitting at the throne while Krushe, the small assassin named Parro, a few demon sorcerers and some middle-ranked demons were waiting for his commands. In truth, he had not the first clue about being a king, and so he didn’t really know what to do with these people…
’My goal is to get home, but I can’t make it too obvious… not when they are convinced that I’m here to conquer them!’ he thought to himself.
After thinking for a bit, he made up his mind.
’Right… let’s just gather information for now. I’m pretty curious as well anyway.’
When he suddenly stood up, the demons kneeling before him got startled.
“I want to go outside,” he firmly said.
Krushe and Parro looked at each other before the demoness decided to walk up to him.
“Then I shall be your guide, my king,” she answered.
The other demons threw furtive glances at them while she led him outside of the throne room. As they passed through the giant doorways where two towering berserkers were stationed, Dhein found out that they were at the highest floor of the whole castle.
He walked out into the balcony.
From here, he saw the demonic lands that humans were never meant to see.
It was… normal.
No barren wastelands, no monsters roaming. There were no volcanoes instead of mountains and, no, their rivers didn’t have lava instead of water.
There were hardly any difference between this and the human countries. In fact, Olcour was more similar to Sekhtar than to the northern snowy lands.
From up here, Dhein saw villages. The people that lived there looked like regular humans from afar, since he couldn’t see the difference in skin color and the horns on their heads. They were engaging in mundane, daily routines such as laundry, farming and other jobs.
’This is… very different from what I imagined.’
He then looked around the balcony and searched for the stairs.
But there were none.
He looked at Krushe and asked:
“Is this the exit?”
She nodded and then said politely:
“Yes, sire.”
Confused, he turned around and looked again.
“Then how do I get down from here? Where’s the stairs?”
The demoness tilted her head, confusion was also evident in her face.
“I don’t understand, sire. You can just jump down.”
Dhein blinked a few times.
“That’s how we do it here, sire.”
After a short silence, he realized.
’Oh…’
He then looked back at the ground level. They were at least thirty meters high.
Hitting the ground from this height would kill him instantly.
’Maybe going out was a bad idea after all. I’ll just sit back down.’
As he was about to return to the throne room, a familiar voice resounded inside his head.
’Let me take over. I’ll take you down,’ Cyreth said.
He paused in shock. He figured that he can’t just speak to Cyreth with Krushe listening, so he said:
“You go first, Krushe. I’ll follow in a second.”
The demoness obediently nodded and then jumped off of the balcony without hesitation.
Dhein almost panicked. He hurriedly stepped to the edge of the balcony and watched the girl fall.
She landed on the ground no problem.
He let out a sigh. After confirming that no one could hear him, Dhein whispered:
“Why should I trust that you won’t just go on a killing spree?”
He heard the fallen god inside him scoff in annoyance.
’I won’t. There’s just something that I need to see.’
A moment later, he added:
’One more thing. I’ll do my best to act as if I were you, so don’t switch back yet. Unlike you, I have no vision unless I’m controlling our body.’
Dhein raised an eyebrow.
“Our body?” he asked, irritated.
’Isn’t that right? Grant me just this and I’ll be indebted to you.’
Dhein thought about it for a minute. Cyreth wasn’t the type to go back on his word, based on his judgement, at least, so he figured that he could trust him. He could just switch back just in case, anyway.
“Fine.”
And with that, the fallen god took over his body.
The sharp, ethereal eyes that were once golden had turned yellow.
Cyreth stretched his limbs first and then stepped on top of the concrete railings of the balcony.
Then, he jumped off, letting the gravity accelerate his body towards the ground before flipping in the last moment and land square on his feet.
Before him was the demoness that he had almost killed.
“Where do you wish to go first, sire?”
A devious smirk crossed his chiseled face.
Cyreth took a couple steps, walking past Krushe. He spread his gaze to the lands, stretching far and wide.
He then answered:
“I want to see an old friend — if she’s still alive, that is.”
