Chapter 32: Fallen God
Cyreth felt his new vessel.
He was perfect.
The fallen god could tell that this human had been training his body to withstand the supernatural forces in this world. He had a strong, optimal build.
He was quite the looker, too.
’I don’t mind conquering the heavens in this form,’ Cyreth thought with delight.
But first, he had to address the situation at hand.
Without a vessel, he had only been able to see the world of souls, not what was happening in the physical world. And so, when this lowly scoundrel attempted to grab him with her invisible puppet insect, he was a bit confused and extremely pissed off.
’A demon. One of the most disgusting creatures in this rotten world.’
Above them was a demon that couldn’t stop evolving physically. Cyreth wondered how foolish one had to become to mess up this bad.
By the entrance of the building they were in, a horde of other-gods-know-what stood by.
He tossed away the torn leg of the giant insect which was twice bigger than his vessel’s arm. He then glanced at the ones in front of him.
’I assume these ones want to kill me. Well, it doesn’t matter. I’ll just clear my surroundings of filth for now.’
Without knowing what happened, Krushe was launched through the wall and outside the warehouse with blinding speed. Her body hit the trees, breaking several of them before the force gradually dissipated and she rolled to a stop.
The one-eyed abomination, despite how large his eye was, couldn’t see what Dheinyrus did either. But his leg was raised and a thin smoke was oozing from the sole of his shoe, as though he just kicked someone so hard it evaporated them.
“So this is the power of a Theocheirós…” the demon muttered.
Cyreth looked up.
’What is this thing blabbering about? Hm, whatever. I don’t feel like chatting with worthless slugs.’
He kicked the floor, launching himself up to the level of the floating demon. As he met its aerial gaze, the fallen god channeled the power of the crimson star, manifesting a blood red flame in his palm.
Then, swinging his arm, he shot the red flame at the one-eyed abomination, exploding violently on hit. The whole area lit up in crimson just as how the world was supposed to.
By the sheer power of the crimson fire, the giant sphere crashed into the forest, away from the building. Cyreth then began to fall back to the ground.
Landing square on his feet, the ground shattered from his weight. He saw the horde of nightmarish creatures by the entrance beginning to charge at him.
“Young star, come forth,” he whispered.
A glowing yellow cleaver sword appeared in his right hand. Wielding the sword made out of the heart of a young star, he walked towards the rushing abominations.
Shina hugged Remi tightly as she watched how Dheinyrus completely annihilated the army of monstrosities. He disappeared, only the streaks of his glowing blade remained visible in a whirlpool of blood and sword. He was the fastest moving creature Shina had ever seen, even faster than Krushe’s invisible insect.
His power really was beyond human comprehension. She was thankful someone like him was on their side.
A few more seconds of slaughter later, the abominations were wiped out. There wasn’t even a single drop of blood that managed to stain Dheinyrus’ noble coat.
“You, cocky human,” the one-eyed demon had returned.
Cyreth irritatedly turned to him.
“Just because you can borrow the power of gods, doesn’t mean you’re some hot shit. I’ll fucking teach you a lesso—”
The cleaver sword went straight through the center of his giant eyeball. The demon’s screams filled the whole building, sending tremors to the ground itself.
Cyreth disappeared from his spot, only to reappear in front of the demon. Dodging all its filthy tentacles, he grabbed the hilt of his sword and pulled it out of the eyeball. From then on, any tentacle that tried to touch him was severed easily. They plopped sickeningly to the ground like dead worms.
The demon fell first, crushing the side wall of the building. Cyreth let the gravity pull him to the ground where he could continue slaughtering the demon.
As soon as he landed, he slashed the bleeding eye without mercy, causing the demon to cry out in despair.
With his other free hand, Cyreth caught Krushe by the neck when she suddenly appeared behind him. He didn’t even have to look. Everything and everyone was so slow compared to him. Nothing was a challenge.
The giant demon was going to bleed out and die. The demoness was going to have her neck snapped.
Suddenly, the invisible insect desperately pulled Krushe out of Cyreth’s death grip. Her own blood made her neck slippery enough to escape from his hand.
The fallen god immediately looked at the fleeing demon. He didn’t let it slide. But when he was about to close the gap, the insect threw Krushe away and blocked Cyreth’s path. It took him only one swing to cut the giant insect in half.
Before he could transfer his attention to the escaping demon, several tentacles were already on their way to strangle him. He didn’t have to evade or keep his distance. He knew he had enough strength to cut the tentacles barehanded, but it was way too disgusting.
He slashed them all and then bolted towards the one-eyed demon. Cyreth almost laughed when he saw comically large tears falling down from it.
“You’re a bully,” the demon cried.
With a prideful grin, Cyreth raised his sword. Bright yellow light emanated from the tip, reaching the clouds. It looked like a beautiful beacon of pure energy.
Then, he swung down, letting that glowing pillar fall on the sphere slug. In an explosion of light and roaring wind, what remained of the pulverized demon was a pile of ash that was soon to be erased by the wind as well.
Cyreth took a deep breath. It was his first slaughter in eons.
It felt incredibly good.
One of them got away, but it wasn’t all that bad. She could keep that fear of him within her forever.
Then, he turned around. He saw a beautiful young woman and…
’A DRAGON?!’
He couldn’t believe his eyes. He never thought he would see one again.
Though this dragon was a lot smaller than what he remembered, its features unmistakably resembled the artificial race he and a few friends created.
The greedy bastards used these adorable lizards for war. He would never forgive them for that.
When Cyreth began walking towards the woman and the dragon, he suddenly felt a gap in his consciousness.
It was a feeling all too familiar.
’This worthless mortal… he’s still here.’
Once again, he lost in a tug of war inside his vessel’s consciousness, although this time, it was even more decisive. He couldn’t even put up a fight. The owner of the body completely took over.
Dhein gasped. Finally, he was back in his own body. At that same moment, the glowing yellow cleaver dissipated into the wind.
’What the actual fuck was that?!’ he asked himself, blinking a few times.
’A god… a fallen god is inside me…’
He was so shaken that he didn’t notice when Shina got up and ran towards him with teary eyes. The girl absentmindedly jumped on him and wrapped her arms around the back of his neck, burying her face on his shoulder.
The sun was beginning to set beyond the horizon. Shina couldn’t stop crying in relief.
In an attempt to comfort her, Dhein gently put his hand on her head. However, his mind was somewhere else.
It was hard to believe, but he could summon a god at will.
