Chapter 80: The God Tamer Arrives
The Sekhtar region was the last piece of land at the edge of the demonic continent. Here was where the domain of the terrible Demon King lay — at the southernmost part of the world.
Surrounded by deadly oceans on both sides and a frozen desert behind, the citizens of Sekhtar had no means of leaving. Traveling northward was futile as well, for an indestructible celestial barrier stood between them and the human continents.
On the tallest cliff at the edge of the demonic lands, a mighty castle was built. It stood on the top above the raging waves, relentlessly splashing on the face of the massive cliff.
Inside this marvelous castle, the most fearsome army anxiously waited. They waited for the result of the work of their glorious king.
Parro looked like a complete runt standing among these monsters. The only saving grace was that he was the same size as the Demon King, and it made the other bigger demons think twice before insulting his short stature.
Besides, he was the youngest elite in the Demon King’s army. Though most of his colleagues were five times his size, his speed and skill made him formidable enough to stand above them… in terms of ranking positions, at least.
He and Krushe were the two elite warriors that remained. Everyone had been killed by Dheinyrus Theocheirós and Thevon Luxier.
Their venture in the human continent was extremely dangerous because of people like those two. Returning alive was already a luxury due to the nature of the purpose of their infiltration. Parro and his allies spent years developing weapons of mass destruction to be used on humans, but Angelus had already predicted that the scion of divinity might catch wind of this anytime soon.
So, when the barrier between the human and demonic continents was opened once more, the Demon King himself passed through first and spent his days performing the ritual for a teleportation spell.
While a portion of the human imperial forces was preoccupied with handling the discovered demon base in Callex, Angelus will execute his plan. It was a gamble since Dheinyrus was still a huge threat. Whether their plan would prove fruitful or futile, they will find out now.
They waited for the arrival of the Olcourian Princess. Due to the limited precision of the teleportation spell, she could be teleported anywhere inside this castle as the Demon King said. And Parro, along with his allies were on a standby, ready to capture her at any time.
He and Krushe, as well as some middle-ranked demons were at the throne room while others waited in other areas. According to Krushe who had already fought the princess, they needed to be alert and not underestimate her abilities.
Amidst the heavy silence, Parro decided to speak.
“Do you think Angelus will be able to pull it off?”
The demoness threw him a glance and then replied.
“He was the only one who never underestimated the scion of divinity. Even though most of us believed him to be a fraud, the Demon King remained vigilant and, in the end, he was right.”
She let out a deep sigh before adding:
“If anyone were to outsmart the scion of divinity, it would be the last fallen angel.”
Parro lingered for a while and then looked away. They could only hope that their king succeeded.
’For Goddess Oneirah,’ he thought to himself.
Then a minute or so later, the moment they had been waiting for finally arrived. Thundering light embraced the throne room, prompting the demons to be alert. Their hearts pounded rapidly and they kept their eyes peeled to the final missing piece for their goal.
They didn’t understand at first why they needed to capture the princess to rescue Goddess Oneirah, but according to their oracle, she was the most crucial part. Without her, retrieving their fallen goddess would be most impossible.
“Finally…” Parro mumbled.
The wind swirled in the throne room as overwhelming demonic energy surged down from the heavens. They had to cover their eyes from the intense magical residue caused by the teleportation spell.
Gradually, the noises quieted down and the winds settled. The light abruptly vanished, marking the end of the teleportation process.
They opened their eyes to behold their victorious capture.
Only to be met by utter disappointment and… immeasurable, blood-draining fear.
Instead of a helpless princess, what arrived at the castle was an entity that strikes dread to anyone that his gaze lands on. A man that sows hopelessness in the hearts of his enemies. A being so powerful that his mere presence instills both awe and terror.
Dheinyrus Theocheirós had arrived.
Sitting on the Demon King’s throne as if the world itself belonged to him, he spread his gaze to all that was present in the room. Before him, Parro felt like an insignificant pest whose whole purpose in life was to be stepped on and crushed by the weight of Dheinyrus’ glory.
“I—Im…possible…” Krushe muttered beside him. He turned to look at her only to see a pale, fretful mess.
“How did he…”
Soon, all that was present in the throne room was completely frozen, none dared to move a muscle.
“Angelus…” Parro whispered, his hitching breath making it difficult to speak.
“…has been defeated.”
Dheinyrus’ eyes landed on Krushe, making the demoness fall to her knees.
His soft, masculine voice reverberated in the silent throne room like the hush of a calm tyrant.
“We meet again.”
Krushe’s mouth were left agape but no sounds were coming out. If fear had a face, Parro thought that he was looking right at it with how restless the demoness appeared.
The scion of divinity crossed his legs as he comfortably sat on the onyx throne.
“Hmm… this place is not bad. Don’t worry, I’m not here to fight you. Relax.”
Since no one was brave enough to utter any words, Parro decided to steel himself.
“G—God Tamer… can I address you as that?” he asked.
The scion of divinity looked at him and he was reminded of the wonder an mystique he saw in the human’s golden eyes the first time they met.
Simply locking eyes with him felt like an absolute honor.
“You can call me Dhein,” he answered.
