Chapter 11: Decompose!!

Decompose was very efficient at destroying organic and inorganic matter. I didn’t know how much damage I would have to deal to defeat it, so I tried to damage its internal organs. If I tried to destroy its lungs, heart, or even its stomach, it might be counted as critical damage.

The problem was that I needed to touch the said matter for a few seconds. It’s not like monsters stay still and let me put my hands on them. This skill is not suited for combat, but it was the only thing I knew that could damage the Sheep for good.

I wasn’t sure that I could analyze the Sheep and damage it. Rick had already made experiments using animal parts, but never on a living thing or in the middle of combat.

If I had the option, I would never try to mount an animal. I didn’t grow up on a farm, and the closest thing I experienced was when I tried to ride a mechanical bull once. It didn’t go well that time, and I promised myself to never do that again.

I thought of that lost memory right before jumping onto the Sheep, and I broke my promise. That just showed how desperate I was to win. It was a risky gamble, but thankfully the plan worked.

“Baaaaaaaaaaaa…” The Sheep, which I was still mounted on, bleated in pain while it reared up. My arms ached, tired from the ride, and finally gave up holding the animal. I fell, rolling on the ground.

“Aaaaah, damned…!” I was worried about another attack from my enemy, a quick instinctive reaction. But when I saw the Sheep’s condition, I understood that I didn’t need to fight anymore.

The Sheep was completely covered in its own blood. It looked like it exploded from the inside out, not because I could see its organs or anything like that, but because blood was leaking from all over its body.

I didn’t think much about where exactly I wanted to destroy it. I focused on the entire body, as I did with the doorknob before. My theory, judging from the results, is that many of its blood vessels burst.

Blood was spilling not only from its mouth and eyes, but also from its torso, covering the yellowish, half-burned wool with a crimson tone. The Sheep was trembling and panting as a result of blood loss. Those were the monster’s final moments.

I didn’t need to do anything anymore. That thing would die in a few minutes, if not in seconds.

“It doesn’t look like the monster is trying too hard to kill me.” I looked at it, surprised at how much my enemy was destroyed by my skill.

The Sheep was also looking at me, but its expression was completely different from before. Its killing intent was entirely gone, and to my surprise, the sheep’s eyes were moist and pleading. It looked like it was begging for mercy.

Things like compassion or empathy belong to humans, not animal-like monsters. They act like this to protect their own lives. But the second its strength comes back, it would return to its natural self, wanting to kill humans.

’A monster is a monster.’ If I recall, Leo said that when we first saw it. It was an obvious statement, but it’s always good to remember one thing: never treat monsters with kindness.

Knowing this, the pathetic scene of the Boss trying to make me feel bad for its condition filled me with anger. “Are you kidding me? You tried to kill me. You tried to kill my friend. Hell, you tried to kill my girl, and you want me to spare you?”

“Baaaaaa…” The messed-up wool ball bleated as if it were beseeching.

I tried to hold my anger, but the sound of the continuous cry just made me remember everything we went through in the last minutes, in this hell of a fight. I remembered Sarah getting hit by this monster. It didn’t show mercy; it only got more furious during the battle.

’It deserves to suffer.’ These words popped into my mind.

I won’t hold myself back anymore.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” I snapped.

I grabbed the animal by the wool on its head. I had consumed a lot of my energy, but my anger fueled me enough to press the Sheep against the floor.

“BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!” The Sheep bleated desperately. That was the only thing it could do. It didn’t resemble the monster I faced before, but it was the same creature. I didn’t care if it was weaker.

’This thing almost killed me… Leo… Sarah… I won’t forgive.’ I was gasping. My heart was beating like a drum, resounding in my ears.

“You fluffy bastard, fuck you! Just die already! Decompose!” I shouted, concentrating my energy on this last conjuring.

“BAAAAAAAAAA…!” The annoying bleat stopped halfway as the Decompose skill took effect. This time, there was nothing left of it. The horizontal yellow eyes, the blue sheepskin, its wool bathed in blood, or even its organs. The only trace of the Sheep’s existence was the blood splashed where it died.

The fight was finally over.

My body was exhausted. I think Rick’s body was very athletic, because it felt like I was compensating for a lifetime of poor physical training. My muscles were crying for help. I was gasping, my lungs pleading for air.

“No… I cannot rest now…” I said to myself. “There is something I need to do.”

Leo and Sarah were hurt. I still needed to treat them.

I could see Leo from where I was. He was on his knees, looking at the red-haired girl lying on the ground.

I didn’t like the look on his face. From the look on his face, the situation was serious.

I needed to act quickly.

I ran. I ran toward them. I ran as fast as I could.

As I ran, I hoped. I really hoped that it wasn’t too late to save her.
