I was just a few feet away from Zalrorg when I planted my foot on the ground and launched myself into a horizontal slash, aiming for his neck. If that attack, combined with Holy Blessing, connected, I was certain it would deal critical damage.

My sword was just inches away from his barrier—just a little more, and it would shatter it completely—but right before my blade could reduce his defense to pieces, the Lich pulled away as fast as I had closed in.

Thanks to his wind magic, he could match my speed. By the time I recovered from my swing, the monster had already put some distance between us. Fortunately, I wasn’t alone.

With higher Agility than mine, Sarah hadn’t slowed down for even a moment, still hot on Zalrorg’s heels.

“Don’t think you’re going to escape us.”

A torrent of water surged from the palms of her hands, rushing towards Zalrorg. Like writhing tentacles, the water seemed to reach out, trying to seize the Lich. One of them managed to latch onto one of his cadaverous feet.

I couldn’t let that opportunity slip, so I rushed towards my enemy as fast as I could. Once the Water Prison closed and he was trapped, I could try the same combo with Holy Blessing we had used against Derug.

But something strange was happening with the water. I noticed that the tentacle clinging to him had disintegrated, and the others couldn’t even touch the skeleton. When I focused my vision, I realized his barrier had been raised again. The undead’s palm was now pointed straight at me.

This wasn’t a bluff like the one he had pulled on Justine. He was truly prepared to attack me with a spell. At that distance, a chill ran down my spine—like staring down the barrel of a gun. There was no time to dodge. If I tried, I’d only be caught by one of his offensive spells. If I couldn’t retreat or move sideways, then there was only one option left—move forward, as fast as I could.

With the agility boost from my skill, I was able to destroy my enemy’s protective barrier and moved past him, slipping out of his line of fire. But it still wasn’t enough.

If things kept going like this, he would always have the advantage. We would keep breaking his shield until one of us ran out of mana.

’I can’t let this fight continue like this!’ I thought, pushing my body to its limit.

The moment the effect of Flash Thrasher wore off, I didn’t hesitate for even a second before my next move. With a feint, I spun my body back towards the undead and called upon my skill.

“Thunder!!”

A yellow bolt shot from the palm of my hand the instant I invoked its power.

The tables had turned—now Zalrorg was the one at point-blank range, targeted by a spell. And this time, there was no magic to protect him.

My lightning struck Zalrorg mercilessly, the skeletal monster groaning in pain as my magic hit him. The impact of the attack was so great that the Lich was pushed backwards, just as he had done to Sarah. The creature was now on its knees.

“How dare you?” he asked, clearly furious.

“How dare I?” I repeated his words.

I thought for a moment about what I wanted to say to Zalrorg, and the perfect cruel words came to mind—just what I needed to get under my enemy’s skin.

“It’s only natural in a fight for the stronger side to pressure the weaker one,” I said, taunting him. “For someone who wants to conquer this world, you’re pretty pathetic.”

I knew how much effort it had taken for me to land that single blow—and by looking at his stats, I also knew just how much damage I had actually dealt.
