Thera and Orion had just arrived moments ago on the Moon’s surface.

When she fell silent, Gaia with a concerned expression said,

“That was dangerous, Thera, what if she had done something worse than simply sending you both away?”

Thera sighed and then replied. “I had to try.”

Umgadi spoke then. “Lilith will bring about the end of the gods without even knowing it.”

She turned her gaze toward the distant stars. “That’s what saddens me most.”

Thera looked past her sisters toward Adam’s body still lying to the side.

“No progress on waking him?” she asked.

Gaia shook her head. There was a brief pause before she spoke again.

“I intend to get the help of the Dragon of Creation.”

At the mention of the dragon, Thera’s thoughts drifted for just a moment. She thought of Aiden, the Black Dragon’s vessel.

“When do you want to do that?” Thera asked, her tone carrying some sort of urgency.

She could not allow Eden to fall any further. The longer their father remained trapped in that cursed sleep, the more the city would continue to degenerate.

Gaia then said, “The only issue is that right now, I can’t find Thyron, I’ve run every root through the earth to reach her. But nothing.”

Thera frowned for a moment then an idea struck her.

“Perhaps we ask another dragon where Thyron is,” she suggested.

Gaia tilted her head, “Which one?” she asked.

Thera looked between her sisters. “The Black Dragon.”​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Samael stepped onto the veranda where Lilith stood watching the rest of the city.

He crossed his arms over her shoulders and joined her, with his gaze sweeping over the same landscape she watched.

“You were gone for a while,” Lilith said softly, not turning to look at him.

Samael smiled. “I saw no need to wake you.”

There was a brief pause before Lilith spoke again. “Can I ask you something?”

Samael’s smile receded and then said, “What is it?”

Lilith hesitated, then asked, “Do you have anything against gods?”

Samael’s eyes widened just a fraction. Had she discovered what had happened in the Library already?

He said nothing at first, letting the question hang on a bit before murmurring, “Hmm.”

He turned his head toward her. “Where does the question come from?”

Lilith finally looked at him. “It’s over what Thera said,” she began. “Not long after, I consulted with a few others to understand why your presence here was such a problem for them.”

She paused, choosing her words carefully.

“They told me that the reason for your vendetta against the dragons was because you wanted to kill both humans and gods. To take from them the fragments of transcendence our maker had left within each of us.”

Samael’s jaw tightened, but he said nothing yet.

Lilith continued, “I wasn’t around during those times. All I know of you is the love we shared and the connection we had.”

“When I was freed, your generals told me you had a vendetta against the dragons. But the story I was given was different.”

“According to what I was told, the dragons were only trying to enforce your banishment from the First Firmament.”

Samael’s frown deepened further as hepulled his arm away from where it had been resting on Lilith’s shoulders.

Lilith’s expression shifted immediately.

“My intention wasn’t to bring you any sort of annoyance, my love,” she said quickly.

Samael without looking back at her then said,

“I was under the assumption that you paid no heed to the words of lesser beings.”

“I am still their ruler,” she said. “Their very existence is tied to mine. What sort of mother and ruler would I be if I didn’t at least hear what their thoughts are?”

Samael then turned at her for a long moment before speaking again.

“And who told them my vendetta against the dragons was because I wanted transcendence fragments?”

Lilith sighed. “Adam did, after learning the truth of it all from the dragons.”

Samael chuckled, “Do you not see how lies could easily be woven between the two sets of people who absolutely hate my existence?”

Lilith said nothing, simply listened as he continued.

“Tell me,” Samael said, his voice calm was calm now. “Since leaving Dellheim, have I pursued the dragons who kept me imprisoned for a hundred years? Have I unleashed the tens of millions of demons into the human world to lay waste to the very people I’m supposedly so interested in destroying?”

He stepped closer to her, his gaze locked onto hers. “Or have I simply remained here, with you?”

He reached out and placed his hand gently on her cheek. “Do you not see that all I want right now is to live and let live? Here. With you.”

Lilith’s eyes glistened with emotion. She placed her hand over his, holding it against her face.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered. “I’m sorry if it felt like I doubted you.”

She paused, then her expression shifted into this determined look.

“In fact, you know what, my love? Just now, I’ve decided something.”

Samael tilted his head. “What?”

Lilith smiled. “Let’s get married.”

Samael’s eyes widened at her words.

“Did you not just say that the rest of your kind fears me?”

“I also said I am their ruler, and this is what I want.” Lilith replied firmly.

Then his lips curved into a grin. This could not have gone any better.

Aiden stepped out of his Pocket Domain through his portal and into his room at Ravens Grave.

But as soon as he arrived, his senses tingled causing him to pause with the awareness of situations that flooded through him.

He let out a sigh and muttered to himself, “They never learn to stay in their place, do they?”
