Chapter 284: Method Against The Demon King Pt.1

A portal opened directly into Aiden’s room at Ravens Grave. He stepped through first, with Laela and Arianna following close behind.

All three wore really blissful smiles.

The portal sealed shut behind them, and Laela moved toward the bed and sat on its edge.

Arianna joined her, settling beside her with a contented sigh.

Aiden stood near the window, with his gaze drifting out toward the darkened city beyond.

Night had fallen over Dragonhold while they were away. Which also meant that this was his time to return back to the dragons in this pocket domain.

He turned back toward them.

“I have to go now,” he said.

Both women looked at him. Their expressions changed a bit but neither protested, instead they nodded in understanding.

Aiden raised his hand and a time variant materialized beside him, pulled from exactly one second prior.

The variant urned its head toward the original and understanding passed between them. This variant had been created with every thought and power Aiden has ever held down to a second ago.

So it already understood its purpose. It nodded in acknowledgment, then moved toward the far corner of the room and stood there in silence.

Aiden walked over to where his wives sat. He leaned down and pressed a kiss to Laela’s forehead, then he did the same for Arianna.

“This version of me will stay here,” Aiden said. “He’ll protect you while I’m gone.”

Laela reached up and placed her hand over his. “Be careful,” she said.

Arianna said nothing, but her eyes held just the same level of concern.

Aiden stood up and took one last look at them both before raising his hand causing a blue portal to open before him.

Then he stepped through without looking back.

Aiden emerged into the Pocket Domain where three dragons stood waiting for him near the central platform.

Syqora was no longer suspended in midair. He had returned to the ground and it looked like he was in the conversatio Thyron and Orlien.

Aiden took one deep breath, then whispered to himself.

“Alright. Let’s do this.”

He walked forward until he stood before them, then stopped and met Syqora’s gaze.

“Did you see it?” Aiden asked. “The best possible outcome for the battle to come?”

Syqora shook his head.

“Our fates remain set as they are,” he replied.

Aiden’s brow furrowed in confusion. He opened his mouth as if to ask more about that statement, but instead chose a different question.

“How do we take care of Samael for good?”

Syqora glanced at Thyron and Orlien before turning back toward Aiden.

“That was exactly what we were discussing right before you stepped through,” Syqora said. “And we have come to a decision.”

He paused, letting the weight of his words settle in.

“We will have to send Samael out of this universe, into another one. Doing so will make it impossible for him to return here on his own”

Aiden stared at him for a moment, processing what had just been said.

He had always known other universes existed. The system had mentioned them before. But hearing it spoken aloud by one of the dragons made it feel more real somehow.

There were questions he wanted to ask to satisfy certain curiosities but now was not the time.

“Sending him away won’t kill him,” Aiden said. “It’ll only mean he’s out there somewhere.”

He gestured vaguely toward the void around them as if indicating some distant place beyond their reach.

“What about that weapon of his?” Aiden continued. “If it could kill dragons, surely it could kill him too. All we need is to get hold of the weapon.”

Thyron sighed heavily, and Syqora shook his head.

“Each relic of the First Dawn has its own rules,” Syqora explained. “But they all share one thing in common.”

He paused before continuing.

“They do not bring harm to those they were given to by the Oldest One.”

Aiden frowned at that, but Syqora went on.

“Perhaps it was the Oldest One’s way of ensuring checks and balances,” he said. “So that none may go out of order. Even if a few of those relics possess the power to bring us harm, it is not the same for their owners.”

He let those words settle in for a moment before adding:

“Sending Samael out of this universe is the only feasible way to deal with him right now.”

“It may not be a permanent solution,” he admitted. “We are unsure how the rules of another universe may affect his power. But we know it will not be the same as it is here, and that would make it take a considerable amount of time before he even finds a way back. If he ever finds a way back here”

Aiden looked puzzled now as if confused about a thing or two Syqora said regarding these rules.

Syqora recognized it at once and elaborated further.

“In a different universe, the rules differ from what ours are built upon,” Syqora said. “The foundations of its reality may operate under entirely separate principles.”

He paused again before continuing.

“Here in our universe, the rules automatically make us dragons among the most powerful beings in existence. But in another universe? We may not be at the top of the food chain.”

“We would still be very powerful beings,” Syqora clarified. “But the rules will differ for us there, and we will have no choice but to follow that which has already been set by the maker of that universe.”

Aiden nodded in understanding.

“I see,” he said. Then he asked, “How do we send Samael out of here then? . The best I can do right now is portal to another dimension. But none of them go outside of our universe.”

Syqora’s expression remained calm even as he said, “That is where the first problem lies. If it were Veyqorin using his power over space at its fullest potential, then it would have been possible.”

“But without you being at the highest potential level for that authority, you will never be able to open a gateway into another universe. That sort of usage can only be achieved by a dragon whose strength is at the highest level.”

Aiden sighed out of disappointment.

Time and again, the system had leveled him up rapidly. It had done whatever was necessary to push him forward.

Its purpose was to make him Dragon King and inevitably when the time comes, to get him ready to fight against the Demon King.

Now, when he needed that push the most, the system had fallen silent.

Then something else occurred to him.

“You said that was the first problem,” Aiden said, looking directly at Syqora. “Am I to assume there are others?”

Syqora nodded.

“Yes. Just one more.”

He folded his arms across his chest as he explained.

“Opening a gateway to another universe requires an enormous amount of power and focus. You would be breaching into another universe’s domain. Even if you had that much power to cast it, you would have to focus on doing that solely while we try to find a way to send Samael into that gateway.”

“And doing nothing except focusing on such a gateway leaves you absolutely open.”

There was a pause before Syqora added, “These problems were what we were still trying to figure out right as you entered back into the dimension.”

Aiden nodded.

For a moment, silence fell over the group. All of them appeared lost in thought, then Aiden finally said something.

“I may have another way.”
