Inside was a ring.

It was beautiful. The band was forged from a silvery-white metal and embedded in the center was a small, radiant gem that seemed to pulse with its own inner glow.

The craftsmanship was flawless.

Uriel looked at it in shock.

Aiden spoke. “It’s the same type as the ones on Arianna’s and Laela’s hands. A new one I had given them a while back, forged under the same material, Ingium, a substance that comes from the hearts of shooting stars.”

Uriel was still in shock, with her eyes fixed on the ring.

Aiden continued. “I know it’s weird for me to still refer to Syqora as a different person when I myself am Syqora. But I know this is what the Dragon of Destiny wanted. And so even I want it too.”

Uriel looked at him with teary eyes. She reached down, took the ring from the case, and slid it onto her finger. It fit perfectly.

Then she turned to Aiden and nodded, unable to find the words to say anything else.

Aiden smiled and nodded back.

They continued their meal for a while in another round of silence and after a few more minutes, Uriel spoke. “Have you made any progress on finding the other agents?”

Aiden’s demeanor changed as the smile faded from his face. He sighed and set down his fork.

“Not yet,” he said.

“When the shadow soldiers came, detecting them was easy. I could tell immediately that they did not belong to this world. But these ones…”

He paused briefly. “They have been concealed too well by the power of the other Rulers. And I, who am only half a Ruler, cannot find them so easily.”

Uriel frowned. “But this is not their world. They shouldn’t have that much influence here.”

Aiden nodded. “You’re right. They shouldn’t. But even so, the power levels between me and the others are still at a considerable gap.

…I’m not at the same status as when I restructured the universe. And even then, I still wasn’t as strong as the others were.”

He looked down at his hands.

“If I had to guess, the gap between me and the other Herrschers only narrows slightly when they’re inside the Seventh Universe. Even then, I’m still not stronger. And unlike them, I gain no real advantage here the way they would if I were in their worlds.”

He sighed again. “Although I feel myself grow in power every day due to the Transcendent Fragments that force a constant evolution…

But it’s still going to be several thousand years before I’m able to reach a complete version comparable to the others, if I was to wait solely on the passive evolution granted by the Transcendent Fragments.”

Uriel looked concerned as she watched him.

Aiden noticed and smiled gently. “Don’t worry,” he said, pointing at the ring on her finger. “For now, maybe you should just focus on that.”

She smiled again and nodded.

Aiden nodded back, but inwardly, he was bothered.

Because on the realistic side of things, should any Herrscher decide to come directly and right now, he knew for certain he would lose.

Later that evening, Aiden and Uriel walked out of the castle, both dressed properly once more. They were about to return to the Citadel where the Holy Grail War was set to continue the next day.

But Aiden wanted to check something first.

He stopped in the courtyard and spoke in a calm, commanding voice. “I ask you to present yourself before me, shadow creature.”

Right then, energy of darkness swelled from underneath his foot. The ground seemed to ripple, and from the shadows emerged a towering figure clad in full heavy armor.

The armor was dark metallic plating, with crackling purple energy coursing through the segments. The helmet completely covered its face, revealing no features beneath.

In its right hand, it wielded a massive battle axe with purple lightning crackling around the blade.

The creature’s presence was ominous and radiated raw destructive force which made Uriel feel nervous just a bit. Even as an angel, she could tell that this thing was really powerful.

A system screen appeared before Aiden:

[Shadow Creature has been summoned.]

Aiden grinned and made an attempt to make conversation with it. “What’s your name?”

The creature’s voice was deep and resonant, echoing as though it came from a great distance. “I am with no name. I will ask you for one.”

Aiden tilted his head. “I’m unsure what the perfect name for a shadow creature would be. Perhaps we leave it for now.”

The creature bowed its head slightly. “If it is thy will.”

Aiden’s expression became more serious. “So Lord Shadow can see and hear this conversation?”

The creature nodded.

Then it spoke again. “Lord Shadow wants to let you, the false Ruler, know that he also saw when you and the angel had nasty intercourse.”

Aiden’s eyes widened.

Uriel went red in embarrassment and placed both palms over her face.

The creature continued. “Lord Shadow is laughing and says he would desire to have a woman like her too.”

It then pointed at Uriel.

Aiden’s energy spiked instantly. The ground beneath them shook, and the air grew heavy with pressure. His eyes glowed red as he stretched his hand toward the creature, with white light forming in his palm.

“Is Lord Shadow coveting my wife-to-be?” His voice was cold and dangerous.

The creature raised both hands in a placating gesture. “Lord Shadow says no. He has no such interest in one who is already claimed by another.”

The energy around Aiden lowered, and the shaking stopped. He took a breath and let the light in his hand fade.

He turned his attention away from the creature and spoke to the system. “System, I believe if we put this shadow creature into the inventory, Lord Shadow will not be able to spy into my private life.”

[Confirmed. Shadow Creature can be stored in inventory. Lord Shadow’s connection will be severed while stored.]

Aiden nodded. “Do so.”

The shadow creature bowed its head, then dissolved into dark mist and vanished, entering the inventory.

Aiden sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

Uriel still looked embarrassed and red on the face.

Aiden looked at her and smiled. “Well… that was something.”

Uriel finally lowered her hands and looked at him.

Aiden chuckled. “Come on. Let’s get back to the Citadel.”

Uriel nodded, still flustered but smiling a bit now.

They walked together toward a portal he opened, which would take them back to the Holy Grail dimension.
