Chapter 321: “Sorry I’m Late”

This was the power of time at a level of strength even Samael had not adapted to.

The fallen angel had stopped moving, and everything remained exactly as it was.

A mystical being of pure white materialized in the space outside Earth’s atmosphere while staring down at the other planet hovering above it.

This was Aiden.

His form was ethereal with white energy radiating from every part of his being and cosmic patterns flowed across his body like constellations.

He moved his index finger forward to touch the planet suspended above Earth. Instantly, the massive celestial body dissolved into dust particles and flowed away like sand caught in wind.

This was less than a fraction of his power over destruction.

His form, too large and incomprehensible in its current state, vanished suddenly. When he reappeared inside Earth’s atmosphere, he looked far more human.

No tails. No horns. His eyes were still the red of a dragon’s, and small black scales marked both sides of his face, but otherwise he appeared almost mortal in shape.

He moved past Samael without even glancing at him and floated toward the multitudes frozen below. Then he undid the effect of timestop.

Although Samael remained frozen in place.

Because the absorption process had only just begun and not yet reached fruition, the gods regained their composition immediately.

The white aura that had been streaming out of their bodies ceased flowing and returned to them as though nothing had happened at all.

The moment everyone regained their senses, they all saw Aiden hovering before them, and the large multitude of Dragonhold citizens erupted into roars of cheers and applause.

Tears of joy streamed down countless faces as relief overwhelmed them.

It didn’t matter who they were, what guild they belonged to, what background they came from, merchant or street kid.

There was no one who didn’t recognize Aiden on sight.

Aiden descended until he landed directly before Laela and Arianna. Both women rushed forward and embraced him so tightly it seemed they never wanted to let go.

Tears poured down their faces as they buried themselves against his chest.

He smiled and wrapped his arms around them both, holding them close. While he held them, their wounds began fading away as though they’d never existed in the first place.

The cuts carved by the Longinus sealed themselves shut without leaving even a scar behind.

“Everything’s going to be fine now,” Aiden said softly.

Thera stood behind them with tears building in her eyes and a smile her lips. She nodded toward Aiden, who nodded back and silently mouthed two words toward her:

“Thank you.”

Gently, Laela and Arianna pulled away from him just enough to look up at his face. He stared back at them both with that same smile still present.

“Seeing you both again fills me with so much joy,” he said. “But I have a few things to put in order.”

They both nodded at him with smiles of their own crossing their tear-streaked faces.

“Come back to us,” Laela said.

He nodded once more before gently floating away toward where Ravens Grave had gathered together around Katherine and Piers.

The other guild members looked tearful and joyful all at once as he approached them.

Aiden descended until he squatted beside Katherine where she still sat cradling Piers’ lifeless body in her arms.

“Sorry I’m late, Captain,” Aiden said gently.

Katherine smiled through her tears and nodded at him without speaking.

Aiden looked down toward Piers’ still face, then reached out and tapped him lightly on the forehead with two fingers.

For a moment, nothing happened. Then Piers’ body twitched.

His eyes fluttered open suddenly with a sharp gasp as air filled his lungs once more. He stared upward in confusion for just a second before Katherine pulled him into a crushing embrace.

“Don’t do that again, you idiot,” she said through sobs, holding onto him so tightly it looked like she might break his ribs all over again.

Piers was still in shock but quickly realized what had happened. He hugged her back just as tightly, burying his face against her shoulder as relief flooded through him.

The others gathered around them immediately, all of them crying or laughing or both at once as they watched their friend return from death.

Aiden smiled at the scene before standing back up and stepping away to give them space.

For a moment after that, it felt as if he’d fallen into a trance state where reality peeled away to reveal something deeper.

He could see threads now, countless threads stretching out in every direction, each one representing a life. These were the Threads of Fate

His gaze moved across them for a moment and he realized the newly cut threads were the Amazons who were no more.

Their threads had all been cut when Adam passed away earlier.

“Hm,” Aiden muttered quietly to himself in understanding.

His vision returned to normal reality, and at that point he lifted both hands slightly to both side and conjured the power of the authorities within him.

The sand beneath his feet began to move.

Grains of it shifted and swirled upward, gathering together in specific patterns as they reformed into a shape that became more defined with each passing second.

Aeris was reconstructed, her body whole and unblemished, with no wounds or battered form remaining from her previous state.

When her eyes opened, she gasped and looked down at herself in shock.

She felt different somehow.

The other Amazons were being recreated in the same manner and made to reappear in this same place as well.

But Aiden had done more than simply bring them back.

He’d given each of them a soul and had granted them their full memories so they would remember who they were and what they’d experienced.

And most importantly, he’d severed their fate from the gods.

The Amazons were no longer dependent on divinity to maintain their existence. They were now closely aligned with humanity.

Elena and Rin immediately ran toward Aeris the moment she appeared and embraced her with tears streaming down both their faces.

They’d been certain she was gone forever.

Aeris hugged them back tightly, still processing everything that had just happened but grateful beyond words to be alive again.

Aiden knew the world still had much fixing to do after everything that had transpired today. But there wasn’t much time left for that right now.

His form then levitated off the ground as he prepared to leave. But right before he went out of reach, Katherine called out to him.

“Aiden!”

He turned to look back at her.

“Make it hurt.” She said

Aiden smiled at that. “Aye, Captain.”

Then he returned his focus back toward the skies above and flew directly toward where Samael remained frozen in place.

Aiden’s expression had become grim, and without stopping, his right hand grabbed onto Samael’s neck while his left hand seized the Longinus spear floating beside the frozen fallen angel.

“Come with me,” Aiden whispered.

In an instant, they both flew faster than a sonic boom into space.

Below them, the crowd erupted into cheers once more. Both gods and humans alike clapped and roared their approval as hope returned after having been so close to complete annihilation.
