Nyssa passed out before I even reached her bed.

I lay her gently on it, pulling the covers over her so she would not be cold.

Glass shards lay on the floor with drops of blood from where she hit me. I knew she would do something like that, Nyssa had always been strong-willed, but she was also naïve, it was how Rowan was able to manipulate her.

I cleaned up the shards, not wanting to leave any chance for her to hurt herself or me before finally leaving the room and locking the door behind me.

The second room was a decoy… a sound proof room hidden behind my laundry room. I pushed the wooden door open, locking it behind me before replacing the washing machine right in front of the opening. No one would even think to search for her here, and that was the point of it.

I cleaned up my wounds in the bathroom mirror, wincing when I realized just how deep the wound went. It would be fine by the next morning, but it only went to show that Rowan’s claws were so fucking deep inside of her. It would take a lot to bring her back to her normal self.

My phone rang, snapping me out of my thoughts and with a curse, I reached for it. “What?”

“Alpha, there is something that you need to see.”

It was after nine, the sky was pitch black and most of the pack was back at home in their beds. Ian should have been with them as well, but that he called me meant that it was urgent.

“Meet me outside my house.”

“I’m already there, sir.”

I hung up and immediately rushed out to him.

Sure enough, he stood outside my door, pacing with his hands folded behind him, his lips pressed into a hard line. He stopped as soon as I approached, his brows furrowing as he took me in.

“You’re bleeding,” he noted but I waved him off.

“I had a minor accident. What is going on?”

He frowned, a hint of unbelief in his eyes as he stared at the wound and blood, but he brushed it off. “I kept looking into the rogues—”

A growl of anger left my lips at his words.

“I did not ask you to look into the rogues,” I snapped. “I asked you to keep an eye on Rowan and his pack to make sure that they are not getting close to finding us. Are you so fucking incompetent?”

He had the decency to look fucking embarrassed. “I apologize, Alpha.”

“Is that why you’re here? Because of rogues? I don’t give a fuck about the rogues. They have been dealt with. They are unimportant—”

“It has something to do with Alisa, sir.”

I went still.

I had not seen Alisa since the day I found out that Nyssa was innocent. I had not bothered to check on her, I knew she would come to me on her own terms, but I couldn’t help but wonder if perhaps I should have gone to her since.

“What is it?” I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.

“I was unable to track the origin of the letters, but the drop-off was Alisa’s estate, specifically the servant mailbox. She may be able to help. She may know which servants are likely to do something like this. The culprit is still at large, Alpha, and they may try again.”

I pursed my lips in annoyance.

The last thing I wanted was to deal with fucking rogues again but he was right. It was something I unfortunately had to do.

With a sigh, I nodded. “I will go to Alisa.”

He bowed. “Thank you, Alpha.” He started to leave but stopped suddenly and turned to me. “You might want to change first. You smell like her… Nyssa.”

Without another word, he turned on his heels and disappeared into the night.

I took his advice, changing out of my clothes and cleaning up my wounds properly before driving over to Alisa’s house.

Nyssa would be passed out for the night, so there was no worry. Still, I ordered guards to keep watch over my house, just in case.

Alisa’s estate was a magnificent two story building with stone walls and high chimneys. It had been in her family for generations and was just another display of how deep and far their wealth went.

I was allowed inside with no fuss and I stood in the middle of the grand foyer, staring up at the high ceilings. The last time I stood here, it was to agree to mate with Alisa.

“To what do I owe the pleasure?”

I turned to find Alisa leaning against the doorway, dark hair silky straight and held up in a smooth ponytail. Her eyes were sharp, monitoring my every move, but it was her outfit that gave me pause.

She wore a silky black night dress that stopped in the middle of her thighs. It was sleeveless with a lace hemline and a nearly sheer bodice. I could see every outline of her in her clothes… if I could even call it that.

“My eyes are up here, Henry,” she drawled, tone slightly annoyed but also amused. “What do you want?”

“It seems one of your servants was in cohorts with the rogues. We need to find out who so we can figure out who was behind all this.”

She rolled her eyes. “Are we still on the rogue matter? It has been weeks, or are you just so interested in proving your little love innocent?”

There was no mistaking the jealousy and disdain in her voice.

“That is none of your concern, Alisa. I need the names of your servants.”

“And why should I help you?” she crossed her arms over her chest. “You did not even have the decency to tell me that you wanted her back. You left me here looking like a fool as you ran across pack lines for her then you come back empty handed and expect me to eat out of your palms?”

I was not empty handed but she did not need to know that. “It is not what you think.”

“Then what is it?”

I made my way over to her slowly. Her eyes tracked my movements, lips pressed into a thin line as she backed away from me only to hit the wall behind her.

My lips curved into a small smile as I caged her in. there was only one thing Alisa cared about, and if I could convince her of that, I would have anything.

“It is only you,” I whispered to her. “She is not here. You will be Luna.”

“Prove it then.”

“Gladly.” I leaned forward to kiss her but she stopped me.

“Not like that. I want the ceremony.”
