Nyssa lay in the bed, hair scattered around the pillow, her mouth slightly ajar as she snored. She passed out sometime after her sixth orgasm and she’d been asleep ever since.

I sat by the corner of the room, watching her intently all night. I couldn’t remember how long I’d been there, just staring at her and watching her sleep.

Her heat faded sometime during the night, her scent had returned to normal. The moment she opened her eyes, we’d return to the palace. I wasn’t sure why, but the thought of returning didn’t seem as appealing as it should’ve been.

It was the first time in decades that I hadn’t worked in over twenty-four hours and although it was pure fucking torture being in the room with her and not being able to touch her like I wanted, it was still the best weekend I had in a while.

She stirred in her sleep, murmuring incoherent words under her breath as she turned in her sleep, eyes locking on me.

“Is it… how long have you been awake?”

“A while,” I answered, rising to my feet. “We should start heading to the palace?”

I turned towards the door, my hand resting on the knob when I heard her speak.

“Is that it?” she asked suddenly.

She’d sat up in bed, covers pulled up over her chest. It was unnecessary considering that I made sure she was dressed after she’d fallen asleep. I couldn’t imagine spending the whole night staring at her naked tits not knowing if it was the last time I’d see them.

She was yet to accept my offer and to be honest, I wasn’t sure that she would.

“Is what it?” I asked, crossing my arms over my chest. “Did you need something? Perhaps breakfast first?”

She scoffed. “You’re unbelievable. Go away, Rowan. I’ll get dressed and we can leave. I’m sure you’re so eager to return back to your life.”

She murmured a curse under her breath, dragging herself out of bed with a huff. I watched her stomp around the room, grabbing her clothes that I’d folded neatly on the chair.

Her rage was like a dark cloud hovering over her and polluting the air in the room. For the life of me, I couldn’t understand why the fuck she was angry. She should’ve been jumping for fucking joy at the fact that she could return to civilization.

She turned to find me still standing at the doorway and frowned. “Why are you still here? I’d like to get dressed and I need you to leave.”

I raised a brow. “I’ve seen you naked. I don’t think there’s anything you need to hide.”

“I don’t care what you think,” she hissed, storming over to me and shoving her finger into my chest. “You don’t get to see me like that again. You’re so eager to return to your life so fine… let’s get you back to your fucking life.”

She spat each word with barely controlled disdain and vitriol. She jabbed her finger onto my chest repeatedly as she spoke, eyes flashing with righteous anger and frustration.

When I didn’t move, she groaned, trying to shove me out of the room but I remained rooted to the ground, watching her reaction with confusion.

“Why are you so upset?”

That was clearly the wrong response because I could have sworn that I saw smoke come out of her ears as her cheeks turn a violent shade of red.

“Why am I upset?” she asked scoffing, “Why are you such a dick? One minute you’re telling me how you can’t get my taste out of your mouth and you want to fuck me and the next you’re acting like nothing happened and you want to return to the palace.”

“I—”

“I’m not done fucking speaking!” she snapped. “I need you to make up your damn mind, Rowan because I’m not down for this bullshit roller coaster you’re taking me on. I don’t know what you want but I know what I fucking deserve and it is better than—”

I grabbed her hand, still pointed accusingly in my direction and tugged her to me. A yelp left her lips but I swallowed it with my mouth.

She gasped, her eyes widening in shock as my free hand tangled into her hair to deepen the kiss.

She melted into me like butter, all the anger dissolving out of her body in a sigh as she kissed me back, her other than trailing up my arm before settling at the back of my neck.

She was just as sweet now as she was when she was in heat… perhaps even sweeter. I felt every curve of her pressed against me as her nipples grazed against my chest.

There was no heat to blame this on… it was all us.

I pulled away from her before I could do anything stupid, a curse ripping from my lips as I ran my hands through my hair, taking a step back from her.

She looked too good with her messy hair and swollen lips. The bed was right behind her, it would take nothing to pick her up and—no.

“I didn’t want to make this uncomfortable for you,” I managed out, fighting to remain on track.

It took her a minute to understand what I was saying but when she did, she wrapped her arms around herself, as if trying to protect herself.

“I didn’t ask to return because I was trying to act like it didn’t happen, I was trying to give you space and not pressure you. You practically freaked when I mentioned a date.”

“I didn’t…” she began to protest but promptly shut her mouth when I shot her a knowing look.

Once I figured I was calm enough, I closed the distance between us, brushing a strand of hair out of her face.

“I want to do this right,” I said softly. “I already told you, we’re moving at your pace. However you want to do this.”
