I peeled my eyes open, squinting at the onslaught of light directly into my eyes.

I came o, blinking rapidly as I tried to get used to the sudden brightness. One glance at the clock told me it was after eight in the morning and I bit back a curse, I never slept in… ever and it wasn’t long until I realized why.

Nyssa lay curled up at my side, one leg thrown around my hip. Her hair tickled my nose and I’d lost all feeling in my left arm, but I couldn’t even bring myself to give a shit.

“Hi,” she whispered softly, trying to avoid looking me directly in the eye. “how long have you been up?”

“Not long.”

She swallowed thickly. “I didn’t mean to fall asleep here. I didn’t think—”

“I’m glad you did,” I cut her off, gripping her chin with one hand and leaning forward to kiss her.

I wasn’t sure why I did it.

A part of it was to ease her worries and the questions I saw behind her eyes, but the other part was mostly for me; because she looked breathtaking with sleep hooded eyes and I couldn’t get the taste of her soft lips out of my mouth.

She kissed me back, hands sliding around my neck as I climbed over her, deepening the kiss further.

We didn’t leave the room until a little after ten.

I shrugged. “It’s a good day. I have every reason to be happy.”

She hummed, clearly not believing me.

She made her way to her usual spot at my side and stopped, nostrils flaring. Her expression contorted into one of disgust and she turned to me with a frown. “Really?”

I shrugged.

After last night and this morning, Nyssa’s scent was closely intertwined with mine. There would be no getting it out unless we stayed away from each other for a while which was not going to happen.

“I could have lived without knowing this,” she mumbled under her breath. “Goddess above, couldn’t you wait? Or better still, do it somewhere else? Or warn me?”

“I wasn’t aware that I needed to warn you about what I do with my mate.”

She shot me a scathing look. “I’m moving out.”

“Please do.”

She flipped me off, opening her mouth to curse me out when Nyssa cleared her throat.

The tips of her ears were flaming red, letting me know she had overheard the entire conversation. She tried to avoid Aria’s face as she made her way into the dining room, deliberately taking a spot two chairs down from where we sat.

I frowned, watching her intensely but she avoided my gaze and reached for a plate.

I rose to my feet without thinking, drawing everyone’s attention to me. I walked over to her and lowered myself into the spot next to her, earning a small scoff from Aria and a squeak of surprise from Nyssa.

“You have got to be fucking with me,” Aria murmured under her breath, leaning back with her arms crossed over her chest. “You are so pussy whipped.”

Nyssa’s skin turned a brighter shade of red but I merely ignored my sister.

She wasn’t too far off the truth though.

It was just a stupid seat. I was done with my coffee anyway. There was no reason for me to move seats and yet, my skin itched at the distance. I wanted her close to me, so close that I couldn’t tell where I ended and she began.

Nyssa’s head snapped up, her eyes locking on me intensely as if she heard what I was thinking. She held my gaze for a long second, different emotions swirling behind those intense eyes of hers. I saw the want in them, as well as the confusion.

She chewed on her bottom lip and I nearly groaned. I could still taste her on my tongue, and I wanted nothing more than to spread her on the table like a feast and—

“Okay, I’m done,” Aria announced, rising to her feet. “The two of you look like you’re one second away from fucking and as cute as this is, that’s taking it a step too far.”

Nyssa looked away, cheeks flaming. I could hear her heart pounding in the silence. “I’m sorry.”

“You don’t need to apologize to her,” I said quickly. “Aria is just being dramatic.”

My sister rolled her eyes and began to speak when someone knocked on the dining room door.

A guard stepped in, head bowed low. “Your Majesty, there is someone at the palace doors.”
