The sound of my bedroom door opening forced my eyes open.

I was a light sleeper, always had been.

My mother used to say that it was my most frustrating quality as a child. Any sudden movements, and my eyes would be wide open. The problem with that was that I’d never fall asleep after.

I sat up, confused as to who would walk into my bedroom at this time.

The only person who would dare was Aria, and even she would have knocked first for fear of seeing me undressed as I slept.

“Who’s there?” I called out to the slightly ajar door but was met with silence.

I didn’t rise to my feet, only because I didn’t want to give the intruder an eyeful of my naked body.

“She is safe,” I said simply. “Now if you could leave, I have to get dressed.”

I glanced at the clock, mentally cursing when I saw it was almost eight. I couldn’t remember the last time I slept in so late.

Aria didn’t move. “Did you not hear a word I said? Nyssa is missing.”

“She isn’t missing. She is on her way home. I asked her to leave.”
