My mother didn’t teach me much.

My father taught me everything I knew. He taught me to use a knife, he taught me to shoot, and he taught me enough to get me on the Alpha’s council.

However, the one thing my mother taught me was the one thing that kept me in his head.

“All men are the same,” she told me after a long afternoon.

I walked towards him, letting the straps of my dress fall down my shoulders as I moved. His nostrils flared, but he didn’t look away or try to stop me.

I grinned to myself, finally allowing myself succumb to the pleasure.

We stayed there for a minute, trying to catch our breaths. I could tell he was thinking about what he’d promised me, but there was no way he could take it back.

A knock on the door interrupted our silence and Henry pulled back from me, clearing his throat as he answered.

I reached for my dress, taking my precious time to put it on. Whoever was outside would surely have smelled us by now, but I wanted to make a point.

“I have something for you, Alpha,” a male voice said.

I recognized it as belonging to one of the guards. I didn’t know his name, but I’d heard him around the pack at different times.

“Come in,” Henry said as soon as I’d finished pulling on my dress.

The guard glanced at me for a moment, inclining his head in a respectful bow before making his way over to Henry.

I had no interest in whatever politics they wanted to discuss. I had a mating ceremony to plan and celebrations to partake in.

I could already smell the victory in the air and feel the rush of power of being Luna.

It’d be a slap in the face of everyone who ever told me that it was a stupid dream that would never come to fruition.

“I’ll see you around, Henry,” I drawled, voice dripping with humor as I headed for the door.

The door was only slightly ajar when I heard something that made my blood run cold.

“We couldn’t find anything linking Nyssa to those rogues,” the guard said, his voice barely over a whisper. “However, I sent some men to comb their hideout in the mountains and we found letters from someone. Nyssa’s name was written on them but… there’s a problem.”

“What problem?” Henry asked.

“They’re all marked by dates, and on the dates that some of them were sent, she was with you at the palace. She couldn’t possibly have sent them if she wasn’t even present in the pack.”
