Chapter 141: Killing Tough

A few minutes after the giant creepy worm died, dozens more of awakened monsters appeared. Carcasses of stronger monsters tended to attract those from the lower tier, after all.

Anyway, this was going to be a long night.

The two of them looked at the increasing number of monsters and nodded, knowing it was not the time to chit-chat yet. The two then worked together to take down a few more until new voices sounded from behind.

“Whoa, all the fun is here!”

This was Marcus, of course, already dressed up. Before heading to bed, the goblins neatly folded their clothing—washed and dried by the utility room—and placed them at the entrance of their rooms.

Finn blinked and looked up, realizing that it was already dawn. Time ran quickly.

“They really can’t enter? Even after so long? I’m joining, I’m joining—” Marcus said, looking at the few dozen monsters (it apparently increased while Leiah was fighting), running inside to get his sword to jump in and join the fun.

Nona looked at the monsters that surrounded the inn, yet couldn’t get inside. She followed closely behind her old friend, and everyone she’d join this fight too.

They were both past the awakened levels, too, and they were close-range fighters, so they would often go out of the barrier, and they just ran back as needed.

Durgan shook his head and, unlike the other two, just walked to Finn.

“Did I wake you?” he asked.

“It’s fine. We’re usually awake much earlier than this. It was a lovely sleep,” he said, but was making no move to join in.

This was understandable. Durgan had the highest level, which was Toughened Tier 3. They said that he should be upgrading to Fortified soon, and that was a full two ranks above Finn.

The energy and experience that weaker monsters could give were too limited, so strong people didn’t have to waste energy. The others were probably fighting not just to help Finn out, but to gather cores, which were very lucrative sources of income.

Anyway, Marcus immediately went wild, stabbing and hacking his sword against the enemies. He’d then pull the carcass closer to block another monster, causing it to bite through the other monsters’ corpses instead. Blood splattered and slid over the barrier, and looked at how even the liquid was blocked.

According to Pang, fresh monster blood had the same signature as the monsters, so they were blocked, too. If, for some reason, they wanted to get blood in, they’d have to wait a bit (a couple of seconds, or a minute at most) until the remnant hostile energy dissipated, which was also why they were never in too much rush when pulling corpses in.

Anyway, the adventurers had found the greatness of fighting behind the barrier and became addicted.

Where else could they do something like this? Not to mention, because they were a rank higher than the typical monsters here, they could literally farm monsters without losing HP!

“This is amazing…” Marcus said, he even started to name this kind of fighting style. “Hands Free Murder”

Or “Safe Zone, Death Zone”

Or “Tanking with No Risk—”

“Shut up,” Nona said, though she often had to get out of the barrier and flash back after causing damage.

The one most at a disadvantage was Nona, whose weapons were daggers. However, she could take advantage of the level difference. Besides, she had teammates.

After this, Marcus would stab a monster, and after it died, he would use its weight to push the enemies rubbing the wall further in, squeezing them into the barrier. This would be Nona’s chance to strike them.

Now that all of the monsters had just awakened, Leiah even settled outside, jumping from tree to tree until she settled on a stable branch at the rear of the monsters.

Because they were so distracted by the blood lining the barrier, they barely noticed her there, shooting away while their backs were against her.

Finn, on the other hand, would stab and poke and hook the monsters, contributing with his limited strength.

However, because he was of a lower level than they were, as well as the fact that he had been fighting for hours before they did, he soon reached the single-digit stamina.

He sighed and stepped back. The rest also saw this and already knew what was going on. Rather, they had been asking him to rest for a while now.

“Leave it to us!”

Durgan smiled. “We will also butcher the meat for you.”

Finn chuckled.

“Well, I’ll cook you breakfast to energize you,” Finn said, turning around to head back to the inn.

The monsters started to dwindle about a few hours later, with Durgan the one to drag the carcasses in to get the cores and the meat, especially after knowing from Finn that the scent would diminish greatly once inside.

“This is really so convenient!” Marcus said as he slaughtered a few bodies, taking them apart for some good meat parts, as well as checking if theu had a core.

The number of monsters attracted by the toughened monster really was a lot, though fortunately, no one was injured thanks to the barrier. It was amazing. They had never defeated so many monsters while taking no damage at all.

Their productivity was also at least thrice that of outside, and with barely any reduction to their HPs!

The goblins appeared and offered to help out, though they asked whose loot it was first. After all, it was impolite to handle someone else’s winnings.

“It’s okay, this is shared loot, a lot of them are ending in our stomachs, anyway!”

Marcus couldn’t help but look at the mountain of dead monsters, and then his stats were only lost stamina and a bit of stamina and mana.

He pondered for a bit. They had to report back to the territory soon, but they didn’t know how busy they would be after that. Would they be able to return here soon?

Thinking of it this way, he wondered if they could take advantage, even if just for one additional day.

At this, he looked at his teammates. “Should we leave a little later?”
