They found out that the only ones able to tame beasts like this were a certain elven clan. They were also the only ones who could create the necessary runes to do something like this.

So far, they had only seen Frago’s person do this, so many of them assumed it was them.

That said, since they hadn’t really seen the faces, it did seem a bit harsh to attack people just because of this.

Syl narrowed her eyes at them. “One of the people in the middle,” she said. “Dark energy. It looks similar to energy from the dungeons.”

That settled it. She had never made a comment like this if it wasn’t a cause of concern. Not to mention, Marcus and the rest of them all remembered how the dungeons changed when Frago did something.

And after causing so many deaths, that Frago still wasn’t punished and was still roaming around somewhere. Even if it wasn’t him who was here, then it’d likely be people who had something to do with him, so it was worth a shot.

This was really rash, but considering how well-hidden the enemy was, this might be their only chance to get leads before it might be too late.

It was risky, since there were more than a dozen people there. Not to mention, the monsters were at least toughened and to control “tamed” monsters, the humans controlling them had to be a bit stronger.

Perhaps these were peak toughened stage, or perhaps they were mostly fortified. However, they didn’t know when they would get a lead like this again, so they decided to take a risk.

“Can you shoot that far away?” They asked Leiah whose eyes remained at the target. “I can, but the force might not be enough to cause damage.”

Even if it reached that far, the wind resistance would’ve weakened it considerably already.

They did not have the time to be overanalyzing things though. Finn looked at Syl, can you make ice arrows? As light as possible and with a shape like this.

He made a very rough sketch on the ground. Very quick, and it didn’t even take a few seconds.

Syl knew they were in a rush and didn’t answer; she just made a few shots directly.

They were gorgeous arrows, and creating them in a second for each one was a testament for her control.

Leiah took them and concentrated the wind in her shot. She also practiced her control well. Besides, seeing Syl’s prowess made her push herself, so she had to admit her current state was better than usual.

The arrows’ momentum was strong, reaching hundreds of meters away, which was amazing considering this was not even a solid arrow.

The first two arrows didn’t hit, but the third did, though it landed on the beast. Beasts had harder defense, so it did not take it down. Fortunately, it still flinched and got the person riding on it to be imbalanced.

The fourth arrow flew again, but this time it was on the person right behind the first one. The last arrow hit the beast again, so even if the person managed to hold on after the initial hit, he wasn’t able to maintain it after the beast flickered around.

They watched as the person succumbed and fell down.

“Yes!”

Sadly, it was not quiet enough and was still noticed in the end.

They watched as the person almost fell and some of the others flying noticed an anomaly.

The dozen people on beasts realized they were being attacked and changed formations, protecting certain birds, and they knew the leaders were there.

Half of the group remained around those people, while the rest made detours, heading straight to them!

These were six!

Now that they were closer, Syl reacted. “They also have that energy,” she said. “It’s much weaker than the leader before, but it’s there. Whatever is happening, they should know.”

That was all they needed to know. Leiah immediately showered them with her wind arrows. Some hit, some did not, but sadly none were lethal.

“There are a few mages, and those who aren’t are also wearing protective runes,” she said, realizing that they put up shields around them. Syl nodded. “It’s quite pure magic, stronger than what their level should be able to handle.”

“At the same time, this means their physicality and reflexes are likely slower for their level,” Syl said, raising her hands and towers of ice shot up, hitting a few and imbalancing others.

CAWWW! The monsters screamed, and the men cursed at the sudden chaos. They then glared at the damnde group of people standing not far away from them.

“Did that side betray us?!”

Hearing this, Syl’s eyes sharpened and her raised hands suddenly clenched, and more spikes appeared, growing on the ice towers.

The others immediately went to attack. “Keep some alive!” the temporary leader yelled, poison laced in his tone. He was definitely thinking of ways to torture them in his mind.

Syl and the others’ eyes sharpened.

What a coincidence: they were thinking of the same thing.

Although they were stronger for their rank, there were only a few of them. They did not expect that a powerful elven mage would be in the middle of nowhere.

The close-ranged fighters rushed down, weapons up, the momentum of their descent adding to the force of impact. The mages, on the other hand, were powering up their attacks, prepared to attack whoever escaped the clutches of the vanguard.

Unexpectedly—

BANG!

SPLAT!

The mages froze, their incantations stopping and the magic around them dissipating in shock. What did they just see!?

They gasped as their vanguards and their monsters were practically squashed to death, mid-air!

No, they smashed against the invisible barrier!

Seeing this, Finn and the others let out the breath they had been holding.

The barrier extended tens of meters above the ground, and with their speed, they could only imagine how much impact they received.

By the time they landed, the beasts were squirming, and the mages were half-dead. Hehe.

In fact, the barrier didn’t automatically block people. Otherwise, wouldn’t there be more cases of people passively being blocked?
