Chapter 59: Window Shopping Continues

Finn was curious and he skimmed through the furniture and he had to admit he was really tempted to buy one or two.

Sadly, they were not too cheap—each one costs tens of gold each—and he had to be careful about spending the remaining gold that he had.

One of the things he realized about the Hearth System was that—unlike things like upgrades and functions—all items with a physical form required Hearth Points and the local currency, as if it was used to tether it to reality.

The appliances, on the other hand, seemed more like add-ons to the existing rooms.

For example, there was the [Clothes Washer] worth some gold and Hearth Points, which was a lot like the boxes in the utility room, but it looked a bit more intricate. It could apparently increase the [Utility Room]’s washing efficiency by 100%.

Syl’s expensive clothes took the longest time to clean, at around 6 hours, but he didn’t think it was a worthy purchase. There was not much rush in cleaning, considering his guests would at least sleep in his inn, not just head here to get their clothes washed.

It was still convenient though.

Of course, as a poor person, this was a luxury.

This was something he reminded himself a lot as he scrolled. Window shopping was kind of fun, in its own way, except he got dizzy from all the text.

To be honest, he only liked to window shop when there were images and so on. A wall of text tended to make him dizzy, so after a bit the novelty wore off and his head was throbbing.

He still read everything, though, but he realized all that was just 10 items for furniture.

“I thought there’d be others,” he mumbled, a bit disappointed. There were only two sofas, four armchairs, a dining table, a nightstand, and two types of coffee tables.

“Yes, la,” Pang said, eating the last piece of crisp he had on the coffee table. “Each category refreshes daily, and each category may have different numbers of varieties per day. It’s all randomized, so I can’t tell when an item will appear again.”

This was to save energy for the cosmic system, as it was easier to produce something in bulk rather than customize each generation.

Instead of being appreciative, though, Finn narrowed his eyes at his screen. “Is the system capitalistic?”

“What?”

“This totally feels like one of those ’limited time only’ promos that’d entice the buyers to buy something they don’t need!”

“…” Pang blinked. Is it?

Finn tutted, resolutely not falling for this market trick.

Moving on, he shifted to the [Food] category. There were finished food and recipes here, and both were quite expensive. The cheapest serving could cost a few gold each!

There were also a number of recipes available, though only ten as well. It listed the materials as well as the potential buffs it could create. For example, some could increase the regeneration rate of certain stats by a lot more than their pitiful trials.

This was on top of existing buffs, which meant his guests would gain more if they ate inside the inn.

There were also buffs that temporarily increased stats like HP, Mana, and so on. Some gave clear numbers, while some were in percentages, with the latter being much more expensive and obviously requiring more complicated materials.

From what he gathered, those that gave percentage effects were far superior, as they could have bigger effects according to the level of the user. It was a bit counterintuitive at first because where would all that energy come from?

However, according to Pang, it probably had something to do with the person’s metabolic rate and essence absorption. The higher the level, the more in tune people were with the world’s life force and could therefore gain much more from it.

There were also recipes that would temporarily increase beauty, smoothen the skin, make one slightly younger, make one more virile, and so on. Of course, he didn’t even look at those for now, but he did not dismiss them completely.

He had a clear idea of how people with power and money could spend on these things. Those customers would be proper money-makers, okay?

It was just that those nobles probably wouldn’t be roaming around in the danger zones, so he had no use for them at this time.

These recipes also listed the ingredients and he realized that he had no idea what 95% of them were at all!

At the same time, he wasn’t too depressed. When it came to food, he had a feeling whatever he could do would not be inferior to these!

That said, he had hoped there were at least sauces and the like, but sadly, there was none. Perhaps it just wasn’t a thing here.

Anyway, he ignored these tabs for now and continued with his perusal.

The third subcategory under [Inn Improvements] was the [Farm] tab, but it was greyed out. According to Pang, he needed to unlock the Garden first.

He remembered that a single 1 meter by 1 meter plot of land was a whole 10 gold, and it wasn’t like he had farming knowledge, so he pushed that for later. Who would be able to farm in peace with monsters knocking right next to them?

It was better to focus on making sure the place was protected—ideally, including him not being dependent on customers — before thinking of planting things.

Other than inn-related things, there were also things that were for personal use under the [Innkeeper’s Equipment] categories, and this was really what got him off his seat.

This included Equipment, Consumables, and Skill Scrolls. And these were all exclusively for him.

Maybe he could finally get a ranked weapon that suited him? One that he could actually swing around this time and have a reach?

And… would the thing that Pang mentioned that could awaken him be here, too? If so, then he felt giddy and nervous at the same time.
