Chapter 101: The Queen’s Sweet Romance

“That’s so sweet!” Mirelle gasped. She looked at Primrose in disbelief, and in her mind, she was already planning to spread that sweet story to every customer who walked into her shop.

Primrose couldn’t help but smile faintly. “He’s always sweet to me.” She tucked her hair behind her ear and said, “At first, I can’t deny that I used to be afraid of him. But after spending so much time together, I realized he’s not scary at all.”

“He’s never raised his voice at me and always treats me with such gentleness.” Primrose’s smile slowly grew wider.

At this point, she wasn’t sure if she was still pretending to be happy or if maybe she really meant it.

“I’m truly grateful to have a husband like His Majesty.” Primrose’s eyes softened, sparkling like someone who was truly in love. “We both have our flaws, but I want to work hard to be the person who can support him and fill in those gaps.”

Primrose started to feel like she wasn’t pretending anymore.

But … it was so hard to bury her happiness when Edmund had always tried his best to fulfill all her needs and make her happy.

“That doesn’t sound like His Majesty at all,” Arabella muttered, turning her gaze away as if sickened by how Primrose looked like a lovesick bird.

Raven raised an eyebrow and replied, “And what exactly do you know about His Majesty, Lady Arabella? You’ve only met him twice.”

Arabella scowled. “At least I’ve spoken to His Majesty before!”

Edmund wasn’t the type to attend social gatherings often. According to Sevrin, he only showed up for events that were truly important, like things that concerned the future of Noctvaris or directly affected him.

Because of that, most nobles had never seen Edmund up close, and even fewer had held a proper conversation with him.

“Really?” Raven sneered. “From what I heard, you were the only one talking during that meeting. His Majesty didn’t even say a single word to you.”

“Enough!” Brielle finally stepped in to break up the argument. She even pushed their chairs apart to create some space between them. “Have you both forgotten your manners? We’re sitting in the presence of Her Majesty, and you’re arguing like children.”

“But I—”

“Your Grace.” Brielle cut her off firmly. Her emerald eyes stared sharply at the Duchess. “Between the two of us, I’ve seen more of His Majesty over the years, and I can tell you this, him treating his wife with kindness is not hard to believe at all.”

[That boy always acted harsh and cold toward his soldiers, and at first, I used to doubt if he could be gentle with his wifee,] Brielle thought. [But I once saw him pick up a baby bird that had fallen from its nest and gently place it back.]

Even though Brielle was no longer part of the palace military, she still visited the training grounds from time to time to mentor younger soldiers. Solene had even said Brielle was her first mentor when she joined the military.

That’s why, out of all the women here, Brielle was the one who had seen Edmund the most.

Arabella clenched her jaw, but she didn’t say anything else after that. Even though her noble title was higher than Brielle’s, when it came to experience and the service she’d given to the kingdom, Brielle clearly outranked her.

The Duchess would only be digging her own grave if she tried to argue with an honorary knight.

Primrose found it a little ironic because Arabella seemed more afraid of Brielle, the Baroness, than Primrose who was the Queen of Noctvaris.

With a quiet sigh, she realized something important. In this kingdom, power and respect didn’t always come from titles. Sometimes, it came from how much someone had done for others, or how strong their presence truly was.

In her first life, Primrose had none of that. No special power. No strong influence. Nothing to make people take her seriously. No wonder they hadn’t even tried to respect her.

Mirelle clapped her hands once to break the tension and bring the smiles back. “Your Majesty,” she said cheerfully, “you must have something truly magical inside you. I mean, you got the Lycan King to fall head over heels for you!”

Primrose waved her hand, flustered. “I don’t think I’m anything special … but His Majesty always tells me that just being by his side is enough to make him happy.”

The other ladies nearly choked on air. Raven even put down her fork, already full from all the sweetness being thrown around the table, not from pastries, but from romance.

[Her Majesty is truly lucky,] Raven sighed silently. [If only I hadn’t chosen this path … would I have ended up like her? No! Focus! I must keep walking the road I’ve chosen, no matter what it leads to.]

Primrose tilted her head slightly, her brows gently furrowed. Raven’s thoughts were clear as day. If she had known her marriage would end in pain, why had she gone through with it? Who would willingly choose a path filled with thorns and flames?

Unfortunately, Primrose couldn’t ask her that out loud. For now, she pushed the question to the back of her mind.

“His Majesty truly adores you, Your Majesty,” Raven said, her tone warmer than usual. “May your marriage always be filled with love and warmth, like it is now.”

Her words didn’t sound like empty flattery, they sounded like a sincere prayer, whispered to the Moon Goddess herself.

Raven genuinely hoped that Primrose’s marriage would never turn into the same hell her own had become.

“Thank you, Lady Raven.” Primrose smiled gently. “And I hope that same blessing comes back to you, too.”

Raven didn’t say anything in return, but in her heart, she whispered, [There’s nothing left to save in my marriage anyway.]
