“It’s probably just imaginary nostalgia,” Primrose finally sighed softly. “A normal reaction when we’re near something very old.”

People sometimes feel as if they’ve lived in an old castle the moment they step inside. Because of that, Primrose decided not to let herself sink into that strange feeling for too long.

“Just forget it,” Primrose said to Edmund. “At least this music box can be useful for something else.”

Primrose then explained that another reason she wanted the music box was to bind Nina to her for a while.

“I just don’t want her to die pointlessly again,” Primrose said softly. “But I didn’t expect she came to the auction house not to buy jewelry or pretty things. She… was actually hunting ancient items.”

She still couldn’t wrap her head around it. But until she knew the real reason, it was better not to jump to conclusions.

“You’ll probably get more answers when you meet her again,” Edmund said.

Primrose nodded quietly, then leaned her back against the carriage. Before dealing with everything tonight, she needed at least a moment to rest.

By the time the sun had set, Lazarus had asked Edmund and Primrose to meet him at a restaurant in the heart of Illvaris.

But the moment Primrose stepped into the private room behind the restaurant, she was immediately greeted by Lazarus’s frustrated face.

“You two disrespectful children!” Lazarus snapped, raising his voice. “How dare you buy something at the auction and send the bill to me?! One million six hundred gold coins?! What in the world did you buy to spend that much?!”

Even though it looked like he was scolding both of them, Lazarus leaned his body toward Edmund, meaning the Duke was basically scolding the mighty Lycan King directly.

“Father, please calm down,” Edmund said gently. “I only sent the bill to you because we didn’t bring much money with us. In a few days, I’ll transfer the money back to you.”

Before Lazarus could say anything else, Primrose placed the perfume she had won at the auction onto the table. “I bought this.”

Lazarus’s eyes widened the moment he saw the bottle. He reached out, carefully picking it up as if it were something sacred.

“This…” he whispered, disbelief washing over his face. “This is… your mother’s perfume.”

Primrose nodded and spoke softly, “Yes, it’s my mother’s perfume. After years of begging Madam Rachel to remake it, we finally get to see it again.” She clicked her tongue. “Though honestly, I’m sure she purposely put it in the auction so we’d be forced to buy it for a high price.”

Primrose had no doubt that Madam Rachel still remembered how Lazarus had begged her again and again to recreate that perfume. If she had even a little kindness, she would have offered it to Lazarus first instead of throwing it into an auction for strangers to fight over.

But whatever her reason was, Primrose didn’t care anymore.

The expression on her father’s face when he saw that perfume was priceless. No amount of money in the world could ever buy the spark in his eyes, the spark of a man who felt like he was seeing his wife for the first time all over again.
