Chapter 152: The Queen’s Impossible Request

Primrose and Edmund ended up not doing anything unholy that night.

She had been so exhausted that the moment her head hit the pillow, she fell straight into a deep sleep.

It wasn’t surprising, considering she had been on the road for more than two days, and just last night, they had to sleep outdoors.

So tonight, all she wanted was one peaceful night of rest without doing anything that would leave her even more tired.

“After we meet with them,” she said cheerfully, “I’ll tell you everything.”

Edmund took her hand in his, gently rubbing the back of it with his thumb.

“Alright,” he said. “Then tell me, what exactly do you want me to do once we’re there?”

“Just treat me like I’m a piece of garbage,” she said casually.

“In front of the Marquess, you can even insult me. Say I’m stupid, or that I’m just a pretty ornament in your palace.”

Edmund’s grip tightened slightly. He didn’t even blink. “I can’t say those things to you.”

She knew it might be too much for him. But her goal was for the Marquess to let down his guard and believe that Edmund was on his side.

“If you act like you’re just as rotten as he is,” Primrose said, “he’ll be more likely to trust you. Someone like him is good at hiding his true nature, so if you act like you’re just as corrupt, it might be easier to get him to reveal some information.”

“Maybe just tell him you’re involved in something shady, too,” she added. “But don’t tell him exactly what. Let him make his own assumptions.”

Edmund didn’t answer right away, but the look in his eyes told her that he understood.
